With a Greatest American Hero remake on its way to the big screen I get mixed feelings about how hip and new they might make the film. Its buried in my subconscious as one of the best TV superhero shows of its era (and there were lots of them in the 80s) but honestly seeing it again reminds me that it could use an update.

Cinematical says:

According to MTV, Connie Sellecca says that the famous trio — her, Katt, and the splendid Robert Culp, have all received offers for cameos in the remake. Whether they take Stephen J. Cannell up on the offer remains to be seen. But at least that’s something.

I love when they do these sort of cameos to give a 4th wall nod to the audience who do remember the original. And it appears to be somewhat the ettiquette for 80s TV to Film.

I just hope that they maintain some of the things that were great about the unlikely hero in the original. The costume has to stay rediculous, and he cannot ever learn how to land. Ever.

Also, it needs to have the song. The most memorable opening theme song in TV History.

    Cool.

  2. I will find a sniper rifle and clock tower if this movie ends up with a director who decides that song isn’t hip enough for the movie.

Hah, this could be great or a big fucking disaster. I agree though, the song needs to somehow be incorporated into the movie.

michael pare!!?? holy crap, i forgot that!

  5. There was a pop punk band called Zoinks! who covered the theme song, and did a half decent job as well. Should they wis to modernize it, that might be a route to go, but I’d be just as happy with the original personally…

I’m glad they’re thinking about this as a possible movie. If I had a pick for Hinkley, it would be Brandon Fraiser (The Mummy, Journey to the…Earth) because of his funny, yet serious abilities with his characters. What I think would work if Hinkley is a peson with out self confidence, gets the suit, becomes confident, and then finds that he’s the same guy with or without suit, and gains a better self esteem. It’s a campy, but has that human quality. Hey, It’s the Greatest American Hero.
