Nicolas Cage And John Carpenter Join For Scared Straight

It looks like Nicolas Cage And John Carpenter are hooking up for a new flick called “Scared Straight”. You know what, I like the idea for the film:

“Straight” follows a troubled youth who’s sent to prison off the Scared Straight crime-prevention program, which imprisons delinquent teens for a short period in the hopes of deterring them from a life of crime. While the teen is there, a riot breaks out and the prisoners take him hostage. A lifer, played by Cage, is forced to help the young man out.

This certainly doesn’t look like it’s an attempt to be any sort of Oscar bait… but it has the potential to be kinda fun. And while Nicolas Cage can completely stink a room out with performances that are boring at best and annoying at worst… the fact of the matter is the man can completely knock it out of the park sometimes (a few Oscar nominations and a win isn’t too bad). He’s hit and miss (Much like Heath Ledger was most of his career).

Now I’m not saying a film like this will be Cage’s “Joker”, but I still think with Carpenter at the helm it’s got potential. Of course it also has the potential to be abysmal… but let’s stay positive. :P

Carpenter is finally making a movie. He’s really been gone for so long that I wondered if he just gave up cuz all his movies flopped. Considering his track record and Nic Cage’s spotty record, I don’t know if this will be a sure fire hit. we can hope for the best though.

I don’t see a reason not to be optomistic. All directors and actors have been hit or miss. It’s really though, in the end, a mattor of opinion because there’s always going to be people that hate the film, and there’s always going to be people that like the film.

  3. Slushie Man says:

Carpenter had one of the best, most creepy episodes of Masters of Horror, in Season 1. So he does still have it, when he wants it.

And Cage has some damn good roles, when he’s paired with the right director.

  4. Dink says:

original , cool idea. And from the coolest director around.
