Goyer may do Invisible Man before Magneto?

It wasn’t my first choice for a spinoff superhero movie, but Magneto is likely the most interesting and best story driven villain in the Marvel Universe so I was willing to give it a shot. Well maybe David Goyer isn’t that dedicated to the film. So if it is true, what changed his mind? Invisible Man?

Cinematical says:

In an interview with MTV Movies blog, writer/director David Goyer dropped the hint that his X-Men origin flick Magneto may be taking a back seat to his Invisible Man update — not the choice I would have made, but maybe Goyer is a little ‘Superheroed’ out. Goyer tells MTV that Magneto, “may be next,” but he wouldn’t confirm which film is going to get priority on his schedule, saying, “So it could be ‘Magneto,’ or it could be ‘The Invisible Man’ next.” — Gee Dave, thanks for clearing that up.

Maybe it’s just my desire to see Magneto’s story explianed dramaticly on the big screen or that I am a nut job of a comic book fan, but I am seeing a less than balanced scale here.

Remaking the Invisible Man over the Magneto story?? Really?

I can admire the passion and drive behind a decision like this. If he does back out or delay Magneto for this film it just shows how strongly he feels about the project, but like getting dumped for another guy, that guy might feel special that he won the girl but there is still some sobbing teenager who just got pownd at the prom.

To me, Magneto is getting the short end of the stick so it doesn’t look good from where I am standing.

Maybe the other shoe will drop and Goyer will do Magneto first.

  1. And how many of those movies actually LOST them money. I mean entirely?

Count up all the boxoffice, promotional tie ins and dvd sales or toys and collectables, and really have any of them really COST the studio that much money?

They all take that chance. And just because 3 our of 15 movies were bad, you throw them out. Banish them for good.

  2. “I am not playing with your words. I am calling you on your failed logic. You did measure the man by the sum of 3 faults. 3 bad movies? You don’t deserve a career.”

What is this measure of a man shit? I never used those words. You’ve been watching that first Hellboy movie too much. you are making assumptions or reading into things that are not there.
I like how you say “3 bad movies” like that is nothing?… except it is when these things cost millions & millions of dollars. Rodney, lets hypothetically say you are an executive producer of a film/invstor. would you hire somebody who delivered bad or substandard product far outweighing the good or decent to write or helm your film? somehow I think not.

  3. I am not playing with your words. I am calling you on your failed logic. You did measure the man by the sum of 3 faults. 3 bad movies? You don’t deserve a career.

I didnt like the last blade movie but the first two were ok.

And you cant say “film is subjective” then say you question my taste and opinion if I don’t agree with you.

Thats what opinion is… my feelings about the films. And that is all it is.

I dont insist you like the same movies as I do, please dont be naive enough to insist that if I disagree that you would condemn a writer to Hollywood banishment that there is something wrong with me.

Don’t like them.. dont see their movies. Its that simple.

  4. It is what it is,Rodney.

The number of hacks being hired out in Hollyweird increases the number of bad product we have to wade through to get one memorable and/or well made movie. you cannot deny that.

You know good & well Goyer’s involvement with TDK is he wrote a TREATMENT a long time ago for 3 Batman movies.
Last time I checked, a treatment is nothing more than a basic outline for a script/screenplay. A treatment which the Nolans added & subrtractected from to write their screenplay which they fine-tuned & hammered out. As great as those movies are & as much as I enjoyed them, their have their flaws (Begins) & plotholes (TDK).

I digress though. Goyer has had ample opportunity to prove himself as a director & ballsed it up. If you tell me Blade Trinity was something you enjoyed (or even the Invisibles) & revisit time & again, then your taste & opinion are truly questionable. even in something as subjective as film.

btw please do not play with my words. i said nothing about “the measure of a man” in my previous post. done now.

  5. So apparently the measure of a man is three mistakes.

I dare say that if that were the case, Hollywood would already have died off and we would be playing checkers instead.

Sorry Jig. I could go on ALL DAY about 3 movies that I didn’t like good by ANY director. So I guess by your logic all of Hollywood should be called hacks?

I can’t agree with logic that calls the writer of Batman Begins and Dark Knight a hack because you found something else he did that you didn’t like.

  6. Magneto getting his own movie… does he deserve that? I didn’t see the Magneto character in the first two X-Men as a very intense character to begin with. Yeah, he had this intensity about him but his trauma wasn’t that big of a deal. It was somewhat downplayed. For his interior mindscape, that was fine but when he was outwardly interacting with people, he didn’t really show the tormented man very much. He kept it contained. What would a real Magneto movie do aside from generate sympathy for Magneto that we didn’t really feel in the X-Men movies.

  7. Why isnt this fucknuckle dead yet? ditto for the overrated Zak Penn & Akiva Goldsman. They’re all talentless hacks with tragic failed ambition at the directorial thing.

I’m sick of hearing about tools like these 3 getting all the juicy writing projects for comic based films.

They’ve all had their 3 Strikes & then some.

    Goyer as director:
    Demonic Toys
    Blade Trinity
    The Invisible

    as screenwriter:
    Kickboxer 2
    The Crow: City of Angels
    Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D..
    Blade Trinity
    yada yada yada

It’s now clear that Goyer’s screenwriting had nothing to do with the success of the first 2 Blade films. It was all Norrinton & Del Toro’s skills respectively. Nor the Batman reboot. It seems that was all Nolan (s).

    Penn: Inspector Gadget,X3 & Elektra
    You’re Out!

    Goldsman:
    Batman Forever
    Batman & Robin
    Handjob (nee Hancock)

    Yer Out!

Fucking Hacks! The lot of them.

  8. Rodney
you have ruined my day and my dreams and hope…

i always found the idea of magneto using ironman as a weapon to hit thor while abomination hits the hulk with thors hammer and venom trying to digest captain america all at the same time to be an amazing scene that would have been orgasmic but….that dream is now ruined…

well. i guess its kang then.

    why.

  9. Hazmat, I guarantee that Magneto will not be the villain in Avengers. Magneto has always been and will always be an XMen foe and that is covered in the deal that Fox has with Marvel for the XMen properties

  10. Well its a good thing they didnt think those two particular movies were all encompassing of his entire career.

Then they would have missed out on the fact that he wrote Batman Begins and the Dark Knight and the other two Blade movies you forgot to mention.

How does that make him a hack exactly?

  11. The Invisible and Blade Trinity were two of the worst films I have ever seen. They got terrible reviews and made little money. How does this hack land Magneto?

  12. yup.

the magneto film is so that they can have a villain in the avengers….better then fucking kang…

i mean does anyone else see another realistic reason to why theyll be making a movie about magneto???

same with venom…and ive already given my input on why abomination was kept alive in the incredible hulk movie….

  13. Do we really need another Invisible Man movie, I mean Hollow Man is still fresh in my mind and it was a decent movie with a good cast. I would not be interested in seeing another Invisible movie right now, it’s a pointless remake in my opinion.

Magneto would be interesting to say the least. I would go see that at theater for sure. If you want me to lay down hard earned coin at the theater for a movie you better bring something that is not recycled, a trip to the theater is quite expensive these days. You throw in popcorn and drinks and you are talking close to $30.00 for a couple.

Now please tell me why I should go see another remake of an Invisible Man again?

  14. What’s with Goyer and the “Invisible Man”? I mean, didn’t he get that out of his system last year with “The Invisible”? Sure, it was a piece of crap and technically not a true “invisible man” movie, but move along. I’d much rather see a Magento spinoff than another Invisible Man movie. There really hasn’t been a great Invisible Man since Claude Rains, so I think it’s time to hang that idea up.

  15. Would prefer to see Magento movie first but thats just cause i’m such an X-men fanboy and Magnetos story is so awesome.

Btw Pownd? surely you mean pwned?

  16. I’d be all for Invisible Man before Magneto, but thats just me. And I think they should get Chevy Chase to play the IM(kidding). Magneto will be first. Studios will push for all the money they can get for comic book movies while they’re banking it for them. I could be wrong though
