MoviesOnline tells us that someone out there has given the green light to Resident Evil 4.

I liked the first one enough, but didn’t invest much in any of the sequels. They were ok. Milla Jovovich might not be a master thespian, but as far as female leads in action goes, she has a decent track record. Of course she owes the majority of that record to the Resident Evil and that she likes to get gigs alongside people she sleeps with.

Paul WS Anderson wrote the first three Resident Evil movies (directed the first) and has had a long time relationship with Milla (and a baby), and likely my favourite role was in the Fifth Element which her husband of the time Luc Besson wrote and directed. How that can of meathair ever scored a supermodel I will never figure out.

Is she pulling a Rose McGowan? I don’t know.

Fans of the series don’t seem to mind seeing her in the role of Alice, and I dont mind her combat fashion sense. Any chick who manages to stave off zombie type creatures in an evening gown only to put that aside for an outfit that crosses a post apocalyptic gardeners outfit with garters and stockings is ok by me.

I hope they get Stephen Norrington to direct it, or maybe Anderson return to direct it. Norrington is really great at this stuff.

  2. I never saw RE3, but if they do RE4, I hope they bring back Jill Valentine. It was nice to see her in RE2.

  3. I’ve watched them all, they all are a blur besides the third. I’d probably watch the fourth just because it’s a zombie movie and it has Milla Jovovich in it.

  4. I have seen all of them and like all the part. I am waiting to see the RE 4.

The first RE was awesome and the second was not to bad and ill agree that it would be sweet to have Valentine back she was easy to look at. The third one however just jumped waaaaaay to far ahead and just seemed like it breezed by to fast….(wow i said a movie moved to quick?) But the only problem i have with a RE4 is there wont be any Olivera/Oden Fehr cause he blew himself up…. Just me but hey he was the real badass of the films Jovovich kicks ass yea but the support of Fehr i think is what helped make the films really enjoyable….that and he was funny as hell in RE3.

seriously… i mean it’s not uwe boll but those resident evil are far from being good. i don’t even mention the fact that the story and spirit of the game are way off. The video game serie is dark with a strong ambiance and storyline, the movie :
Psychic powers and kung fu??? wtf ?

    spoilers :
the third is not even a zombie film, we have like 2 scenes with zombies, and the rest is “sci fi stuff” with an army of clones of milla…

I’ve enjoyed the RE films so far, well aside from the horrible first sequel. I’ll be down with RE4.
But I do agree that the third film went too far in the “end of the world” scenario. I don’t really know how they are going to go with this story. Unless they do a 30 Days of Night type of film since they were all heading to Alaska in the third one.

  8. I know of folks who didn’t care for the previous film, and while it was a slight letdown in one area (how long did it take for the group to get to a buried in sand dunes Vegas- a major selling point of the film??) the biggest criticism by “the fans” was that “it strayed away from the game storyline”

Having mildly liked the first, despising the second (and the lack of all humanity)…I was quite surprised by the third film. I wound up liking it better -far better- than the previous pictures. I say to the fans : get over yourselves already. This is the best direction to go, getting rid of a crutch and attempting the appearance of something different.

Steve Norrington would be good, I agree Pad, but I would love it just the same if Russ Mulchahy returned to to direct. The last RE was his best film since The Shadow.

    I guess 4 is the new 3.

    Die Hard 4
    Indiana Jones 4
    Terminator 4
    Scream 4
    Resident Evil 4
    Bourne 4
    Spiderman 4 Maybe
    Jurassic Park 4 Maybe
    Pirates 4 Maybe
    Mission Impossible 4 Maybe

As a sudo-fan of the Resident Evil franchise I hate all the movies. They are nothing at all what I wanted to see as a fan. Now the second film wasnt so bad I liked 70% of the film. I have never and will never see the 3rd film.

Now as a fan of movies I hate Andersons writing and directing. He seems to always take others material and but his own spin on it turning it to garbage. How this guy is still working I have no idea.

As for Mila if its true what Rodney says then I really like her less than I had before. It so sounds like she is only with the guy so she can get movie roles cause her acting is terrible. But then there also another side to this being that Anderson gives her roles so that she stays with him and she not find a good director to marry.

  11. This franchise is pure B movie territory and thats OK! There’s certaintly a place for good throw away B- movie material and this franchise fits that bill, The last really cool B movie to play in theaters was DOOMSDAY with Rona Mitra. That movie which mixed a few different genres was really a lot of fun. Id say I like the 2nd installment in The Resident Evil franchise the best.

  12. Sahil, you forgot about Rambo 4.. lol

In seriousness though, I enjoyed all the games, and was hesitant about the movies straying from the story, but I still enjoyed them and the fact that they brought the Nemesis, Nicholai, Carlos, Jill and Claire in from the games… I’d like to see another one and hopefully more creatures from the games will be there…

  13. Seth Rex

This is great news for me at least. Loved the 3 films and will look foward for 4. Though to be honest, what the heck is happening with the CGI film?

  14. SethRex, I hear it is coming out in september, they are supposed to have a new trailer next week. Supposedly the story will wrap up the whole Umbrella thing from the games

  15. @ Grave

Seriously, i’m with you mostly on this but you should give the third film a try. It’s not a great film by any stretch but it had one or two moments that were quite enjoyable.

I really don’t see why the next film cannot return the roots of the series and just turn the first game into a film ,which has never been done. Nor has the film series actually done a film about scary monsters in the dark, in a confined space.

  16. I look forward to Resident Evil four which I will not see in the movies. Its worth it to see all the franchise on Sci-fi channel.

  17. Grave

Phil I know that your pulling the ol “Give it at try and you might like it” routine but seriously, why would I want to see a movie I have no intrest in seeing. Thats like me going to see “Wanted” even though I have no intrest in the film and feel its not a film I would enjoy. Sure there been occasions I thought a movie look bad but turned out good ( 8 mile, The Prestige etc). But with ticket prices and gas prices being as they are I would rather say skip it and say its looks like garbage then wasting the time and money just to say I have seen the film and my suspections were correct. Not to mention the fact that peopel would still argue with be that its not as bad as I think.

  18. Grave, maybe he was confused at you saying you hated all the Resident Evil Films (yet admit you liked 70% of part 2) but you prejudged the third.

His efforts to suggest you at least TRY to watch the third may simply come from your own admittance to more than half liking the second movie yet claiming you hate them all.

Choosing not to see a movie is completely different from ignorantly deciding you hate something you have no ability to judge.

  19. CW05

Time for a restart I think. The films aren’t complete failures but it’d be nice to see actual characters from the games. Sure they’ve had Valentine and Redfield, however they should have been leads not supporting characters to Alice. Make a movie with the same plot and characters as the first game and you’ll have a success, guaranteed.

  20. Grave

Well Rodney you pose a good counter argument. However I fail to see how not liking or hating a film you’ve seen is completely diffrent from seeing previews of said movie. Its all about what you see and with that you judge for yourself on if it was good or not or if you want to see it. Doug himself seen previews of wanted and stated it looked like garbage. I have yet to hear his thoughts however on the movie after watching it. The reason being he doesnt want to see the film cause it looked poorly in his mind. Now as for movie sequels just because you enjoyed one movie doesnt mean your oblagated to see its sequel. Just because I liked 70% of the 2nd RE film doesnt make it a good film.

  21. If you get 70% on a test, you are doing pretty decent. If you have a batting average of 70% you are phenomenal. And if 70% of my meal is good but the rest I could do without or even dislike, I would still say overall its a pretty good meal.

Perhaps your own assessment that you liked 70% of it is inaccurate?

The difference between liking or hating a film based on previews is that you have no real experience to validate your claims. You have seen snippets.

Granted those snippets and portions of the movie you were exposed to may not have been convincing enough to make you want to go, but as Phil pointed out, it is entirely possible that your assumption based on the trailers might have been misfounded since nearly three quarters of a movie he felt wasn’t as good as part3, you ranked as something you liked.

Choosing to pass on a movie because of your impressions is completely your choice. But you can’t say the movie sucked, because you didn’t see it.

You can still choose not to invest your time into it, but as Phil suggested, maybe one day you will be bored and it will catch your eye on the video store shelf and you might just like it. You might not. But you will never know for sure until you actually see it. Otherwise you are just assuming without real proof.

  22. The first movie was “interesting”, the second was “amusing”, the third was “awful”.

Should we wait to see what the fourth is? Why not? It’s not being made on my dollar, I say bring it on, lets see how bad it can get.

    ::shakes head side to side::

  23. Ashley

I can’t wait to see the fourth movie if it even comes out. If it stars Ali Larter then I won’t even go see it. Why would they want to replace Jovovich? She has been in all three and I think she has been great. One unreasonable thing that I do want is for Oden Fehr to come back somehow!! He was hot and so is Milla. With the two of them I will see it over and over!! Not with Ali Larter tho. She was so boring in the 2nd film… I hope thats just a rumor!!

  24. they should @ least include leon

  25. The only way they can make the movie better is if they include the MANSION INCIDENT

  26. dylan

I saw trailers for it on you tube It’s going to be cg and featuring jill valentine and leon kennedy from resident evil 2 (the game for those who don’t know ) they are using the models from resident evil 4 (the game) for leons face so I can only imagine what jill is going to look like

  27. i hope that the guy playing LEON is good

I liked all of the RE films but I liked the first first one the best. Boy am I curious to see what the character Alice has to take on to save mankind. I really hope the bring back Milla Jovich to play as Alice

  29. nick

Few things you need to know jill is the carVan leader the real jill took another role at the time.

  30. kelly tang

hi!everybody on the word … i’m fan of RE , i’m from VIETNAM … i really to want know when is movie RE4 coming VIETNAM ? thanks

  31. Taylor

I think that they should do a 4th movie and then be done with them, but I have to be honest, the movie (to me) seem like they are becoming more stupid every movie. I mean, the first was was totally amazing, and believable and true to the video game. And I think they were scary because it could actually “happen”. Like the illegal scientific experiments and stuff. And as they went on, they became less true to the game. The third one was the worst in my opinion but Paul is an amazing director and no one should do these movies but him. But at least get back to the routes of the video game and try to follow it but I think it’s a little late for that. The third one got so out of hand that I think it kind of ruined the Resident Evil movies. Yeah it was entertaining but it wasn’t “Resident Evil” if that makes sense. Don’t get me wrong I love Resident Evil to death but I think they should have stuck with the original characters like Jill and Leon and Claire and Chris and the rest of them. But I think Resident Evil Degeneration will be good (the CGI movie) besically because Leon Kennedy is in it! he’s my favourite character! And it’s not Jill in them it’s Claire. You can watch the trailers on youtube. But I was happy that they are keeping Paul Mercier as the voice of Leon!( for people who don’t know, he did the voice of Leon in Resident Evil 4)
