The one side effect we get from a massive summer blockbuster run is a massive fall blockbuster DVD release schedule. So the first major film that was considered “summer” has announced that September wont end without a DVD release. Iron Man blew me away, and I can’t wait to see it again and again. But I am not going to try and fit it in this summer schedule.

Coming Soon gives us:

Amazon.com is currently accepting pre-orders for Iron Man and lists the title as being offered in three different versions - a Two-Disc Special Collector’s Edition, a Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Disc and a Single-Disc Edition.

Man, this summer is going to hurt me in the fall/winter once all these movies come out on DVD.

Sounds like the regular editions are being released. Collector, Blu, and I just wanna watch the movie Editions. Apparently at Comic Con, they will be handing out flash drives with a peek at what the discs will have on it, but I would presume all the regular stand-bys. Making of doc, Interviews with the cast, deleted scenes. Probably some extended ad for the XBox game and at least ONE feature that will allude to the sequel and their progress at that time.

I pride my DVD collection. It is mighty. Its also soon to be Blu. I have pretty much decided new flicks will all be Blu. DVD is for the older titles I constantly litter my collection with.

Just the other day I got Maximum Overdrive for $4 at Walmart.

  1. Big hopes for the special edition, as I’d love to see some extras involving the design and making of the suit.

The latest issue of Cinefex has some really interesting stuff on the making of the film that I hope has a video equivalent.

It’s difficult to buy DVD’s knowing that in a few more years everything will go Blu-Ray and i’ll probably end up buying the movie again in BR but it sucks in that i dont have a BR player and in addition BR titles are a lot more expensive.

  3. But the nice thing is… unlike my VHS collection … Regular DVDs play just fine in a BluRay Player…. so its all good.

My collection is up over 500 titles. I would hate to toss all that to start over with bluray.

  4. Yeah, but what’s AFTER Blu-Ray? :-)

I’d love to jump in, but the movies are way more expensive plus the prices on the players are sky high.

  5. I am holding out a little longer for prices to come down, however my laptop has a bluray player in it (with HDMI out) so I can use it as a player in the mean time.

The industry learned that people would be more accepting to adopt the new technologies if it is not at the sacrifice of the old. I would predict that when bluray is replaced (which wont be for a LONG time - dvd was on the market as standard for 13 years and will overlap bluray for a while longer) that the next next gen players will support bluray as well.

  6. Actually Rodney, Speed Racer is out in mid September (not too suprising really):

I’ll be snapping both of them up (think i’ll give Hancock a miss though).

  7. I believe we wil see the day when movies are released in theaters and on High definition pay per view the same day. It could happen in the next 3 years. Just a gut feeling I have!

  8. Phil, I didnt say it was the first movie of the summer to come OUT on dvd, but that it was the first movie blockbuster of summer.

However I shake my head in bewilderment that you would pick up speed racer and pass on Hancock…different strokes I guess!

um- it better have all the deleted scenes that i angrily did not see in the theatrical version…

    and btw
arguing on weather you should buy either the speedracer DVD or the hancock DVD is like talking about wether you should have sex with either michael moore or the drummer from the band “Rush”

  10. I’m sure you do shake Rodney. Don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying Speed Racer is a great movie. I found the dialogue atrocious and the plot incomprehensible but really enjoyed the relationship between the family that carries it through and i loved the crazy look of the thing (and how there will never be anything like it again - same reason i own ‘Tron’).

Plus, i can remember watching it, which is more than i can say for Hancock.

2-Disc set is MINE. Mine I tell you!
