Eddie Murphy To Retire From Movies

Delerious-1We have word today that Eddie may have done his last film, and plans to retire from film. We get the skinny from our friends at slashfilm:

“I have close to 50 movies and it’s like, why am I in the movies?” he said, adding, “I’ve done that part now. I’ll go back to the stage and do standup.”

Murphy, 47, said that while a “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ flick was in the works, he didn’t want to do it, because “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”

If Murphy returns to stand up, I will be at the front of the welcome wagon, welcoming him back to where he belongs. 50 movies is plenty and I couldn’t agree with Eddy’s decision more. Cheers round the globe proclaim this decision to be wise. Even the animals outside my window seem happier since this news has been released.

Delirious and Raw are some of my favorite comedy films, and it’s my sincere hope that Eddy is able to release another of like quality sometime soon. This news excites me very much and I hope that it proves to be true. I would love to see Eddy Murphy live now that I am old enough to get into the clubs and pay tribute to the man that first got me interested in stand up comedy.

  1. Kevin I agree Murphy said some pretty crazy things in that stand up, but the 80’s was a very different time and I highly doubt he would do anything like that again.

  2. Good God, Eddie Murphy is saying what we’ve all been thinking.

It’s as if the aliens who kidnapped him in the early 90’s and replaced him with an empty clone of their own design, have returned him to Earth.

  3. Wow… but yea Stand Up is Extremly hard, its very hard to make people laugh. So i understand why he would be nervous to get back into the game.

  4. yes i agree …man in the early 80’s his stuff was pure and 100 % funny…take some time off man and bring the goods…your still funny murphy!

  5. This has been talked about lots in the past 5 years. It was even commented on a episode of Inside the Actor Studio. Someone from the audience asked if he was gonna do stand up again. Eddie’s reply was that he thought about it but backs out cause he is afraid he wont be funny to a crowd. I think thats understandable because he have to start off new material in small venues. Cant do a big comedy show like RAW and not be funny. But retiring from movies is great idea. He hasnt made a good movie since Nutty Proffessor.
