Danny DeVito Back In The Director’s Chair

Danny-DevitoDanny DeVito will be back in the director’s chair with The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle! We get the following scoop from our friends at ropeofsilicon:

Variety is reporting DeVito is set to direct Saoirse Ronan, Morgan Freeman and Pierce Brosnan in The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle from his own screenplay based on the novel by the author who writes under the name Avi. The 19th century-set tale centers on a young girl (Ronan) who joins in a shipboard rebellion.

Filming is set to begin in September for 2009 release.

I was actually discussing DeVito as a director last night with house guests! I am a big fan of DeVito’s style of directing. He uses split screens to great effect and I love the facial close-ups that he gets. The cab ride in Death To Smoochy is a great example of both of these techniques in action.

I believe in the ability of Danny DeVito, he is one of my favorite directors to watch, and I anxiously await this picture. I like directors that have their own fingerprints of style and DeVito has always been an original in my books, worth considering and anticipating. He has quite the cast with this one, and with luck it will give him another opportunity to showcase his wares to the masses.
