They drop the number due to the simple fact that there isnt the time gap in between each movie. All these types of superhero movies dont have ten years in between each movie allowing them to drop the digits and give them cool sounding sub-titles!

I prefer the number be included. Do you know how often the argument/discussion comes up over the order of the Indiana Jones movies? I wish they had numbers on them.

#2 is weak. I like all new, fresh titles. Anyone with half a brain knows it’s a sequel to the previous movie.

I think numbering and a subtitle is best myself. The subtitle always expresses what the movie is about, so when you think back to a film you know which one ‘Attack Of The Clones’ or ‘Return Of The Jedi’ is.

But a numbering system helps fans later in the films life to know what order they go in, simply and easily. Say when you’re buying a bunch of films, or are watching them for the first time. It also just shows a clear progression.

Yeah, numbers and subtitles are the best IMO.

The worst system is whatever the hell they did with Rambo.

Yeah drop the 2.
(Revenge of the Fallen) sounds good, but let’s just hope the film is.
I have my doubts.

On Rambo, for most of the shoot the film was going to be called , “John Rambo”. Then Sly changed it….?
I think “John Rambo” works better when you see the ending. At the end he’s kinda reborn (IMO).

I remember when “Attack of the Clones” was picked by Lucas as the title for Star Wars 2, I thought that was the lamest title I ever heard. And then we get Quantum of Solace and the all time worst title so far 2008, Terminator Salvation, the Future Begins.
Ah boy.

I understand them using subtitles, i just don’t get why the title can’t have a number as well (like the first six Star Trek movies).

@Phil – I think it just falls under creative license. You call your movie what you want to call it. There are no rules you have to use the same title with a number at the end for sequels.

I think it would be a boring place if all sequels were simply MyMovie 2 and MyMovie3 etc.

They likely just do it to be different, or match the feel of the movie, or just because the sky is blue. I don’t know.
