Tarantino Gives Update On Inglorious Bastards

TarantinoInglorious Bastards, he long awaited war epic from Quentin Tarantino has finally been birthed and is set for pre-production! We get the scoop from our friends at comingsoon:

BBC News attended the Provincetown Film Festival last weekend where Quentin Tarantino talked about his now finished script for Inglorious Bastards, a “modern, in-your-face” World War II epic. Although the film has been described as his version of 1967′s The Dirty Dozen, the filmmaker said, “what actually got me to sit down and put pen to paper was ‘hey wouldn’t it be fun to do a ‘Dirty Dozen’ kind of thing?’ It doesn’t look anything like ‘The Dirty Dozen.’”

“This is a modern, in-your-face movie. This is not a TV movie period piece,” Quentin said. He hopes to have the project done within 11 months in time for next year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The Dirty Dozen is an amazing film that all of you should see. It pleases me that Tarantino has decided to film a war picture in the vein of this classic. The characters are fantastic, the movie simmers until boil and then unleashes action when the time is right. When a man goes down – it’ s someone that you are familiar with, and care about. I have yet to see an action movie instill the cost of war quite like this. This film is a masterwork and I was lucky enough to view it as a child thanks to my father. Again I say unto thee – see The Dirty Dozen.

Rumors were circling about that Tarantino wanted both Stallone and Schwarzenegger in Inglorious Bastards. If by the guided belt of Zeus he is able to get both of them on board……we will have macho magic of the highest order on our hands. I am burning incense in oaken bowls to the pantheon of Olympus for the rest of the day.

I am pumped for this one.

  1. Interesting. I’m curious how he’s going to pull it off.

I adore men-on-a-mission war movies like The Dirty Dozen, Guns of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare; it’s great to see Tarantino continuing this fine tradition.

That said, part of me really wants to see Tarantino make another film like Jackie Brown. As much as I enjoy his more outlandish fare, by concentrating on projects like this I don’t know if he’s really pushing his talents as a filmmaker.

A war movie is certainly nothing like he has done before so I’m sure he’ll be pushing his talents as a filmmaker with Inglorious Bastards….even if it is another “Homage” picture.

That’s just the thing though – it’s another homage film. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t doubt his ability to give us an original spin on a familiar genre, I’d just like to see him make something approaching the maturity of Jackie Brown again…

If he manages to get the good ol’ Govna of California in this movie, I will amazed…can’t see him acting again for a very, very long time…
