Hulk Blu-Ray Will Have An Additional 70 Minutes Of Footage!

We have scored some pretty sweet HULK news from an interview collider had with Louis Leterrier – check it out!
During my roundtable conversation, Louis dropped a bombshell of awesomeness. Yeah, I used awesomeness. He said that the upcoming Blu-Ray of the Incredible Hulk would have 70 minutes of additional footage! Yes 70! Of course he said the footage was cut for a reason but for fans of the film and Marvel movies, knowing you‘re going to get so much additional footage is just something really cool to look forward to.
The other bit of news is I pressed him on the Captain America cameo that he talked about last week. He again reiterated that Captain America is in the movie, but he would not drop where he‘s in it.
I am pumped to see a Captain America cameo. I am wondering who it will be, because the person will also star in the upcoming Cap’n picture. If I see Matthew McConaughey wearing the red, white and blue – I would whip my theatre drink in the face of the Pope himself out of sheer excitement!
For those of you that enjoy extra footage, you will have over an hour to dig through! I am glad they trimmed lots out of the film. More often than not, a liberal pair of pruning sheers will do more good than harm. Trim down the story, keep it tight, and make the extra footage available as extras.
Most of the time when they add in deleted scenes – I see why they took them out in the first place. I bought a copy of Kingpin on VHS years ago and they added a few scenes that were not in the theatrical release. I was pissed that I had to watch them – because they all sucked. Having the option to watch them is cool, forcing me to do so is not.

Yes! Awesome!
Trimming all the footage is a good thing, because Hulk is already 2 hrs long already. They don’t want this Hulk movie to be like the first one which was over long and slower paced. Personally i thought the first one had very interesting stuff in it like the comic panel split screens.
and P.S. the last fight scene (abomination VS Hulk) is NOT 25 minutes long, it’s just 7 minutes in actuality.
is this 70 minutes re-inserted back into the movie in a director’s cut or is it just bonus material?
if it’s not, i’d still like to see Letterier & Norton’s preferred cut of the film as well as the theatrical version of course included on the dvd.
speaking of edits, a lot of the advance reviews i checked have mentioned there is a pretty brutal “edit” after Abomination delivers that “is that all you got” line. apparently it suddebnly cuts to him (or Hulk i forget which) running on a roof like there is a reel missing from the final battle or something. can anybody reconfirm this?!?
i’m all for extra footage on dvds, but if this is just exclusively for blu-ray well than that f***ing blows. great marketing. but it sucks if you are a true marvel comic book movie fan who has to pay extra for blu-ray. i don’t plan on buying blu-ray player anytime soon.
@ Padthai
did you advance screen the movie? maybe the final battle has had stuff taken out of it in pre-release screenings.. & you said the the movie was 2 hours? apparently the runtime is just a bit over the hour & 40 minute mark..
btw moviebloggers, i don’t know about you guys, but To Me there is a huge difference between a 7 minute final battle & one that clocks in at the director’s reported 26 minutes. if it has been shortened, then that is false advertising by Letterier..unless he mentioned the battle’s runtime before the reaching the final theatrical cut. still, 26 down to 7-8 minutes is a huge fucking difference.
Regarding Cap, I would guess we see SHIELD find him suspended in ice and strategically have his face covered. If someone was hired for the part we would hear about it. Instead they will probably hint at him and maybe show his partial body, but not show a specific actor.
Sir Jig-A-Lot,
I haven’t seen any advanced screening but I have read some reviewer say that the final fight is only around 7-8 minutes. The reviewer felt ripped off because he was told by the director the final fight sequence is 26 minutes long. He compared it to getting a blow job instead of getting laid, or some something to that affect. Is this the case of the director just flat out lying? I really don’t know.
here is the review:

he said it’s like getting promised sex but only getting a handjob. THere ya go! He had his movie timer on and it wasn’t even 8 minutes.
Matthew McConaughey better not be wearing the Cap uniform. Anyone who thinks he is Cap is either NOT American or has never read a Cap comic.
according to russ fischer at chud, banner meets captain america in the artic in a cut scene.
so im thinking caps frozen in a block of ice. -which is awesome.
and i think marvel already shot down those mcconaughey rumors.
This is the first time I heard about a Cap America cameo in the film; I’m thinking either:
a) a WWII pic of Cap in a hallway of a Military Base where the still is faded and you don’t get to “see” the actor but it is simply a stand-in.
b) the block of ice bit – as Jay suggests, might be kind of neat. I’d save that for The Avengers film or First Avenger: Captain America, however.
c) It would kill with a cameo by She-Hulk instead.
d) It would kill even more if Wolverine had a cameo, along with the Wendigo.
:)
As for deleted stuff:
I would think the extras would show up on a two-disc DVD edition as well next Christmas. The real question is the hour’s worth of footage going to be edited back into the film or not. Does it slow down the pacing? Is it alternate scenes that didn’t work? Are the scenes repetitive?
I’m going to roll the dice on this and say…if the studio/Marvel release we are getting holds up, if the early reviews are any indication…than the lack of the 70 minutes may have been the right call.
“I bought a copy of Kingpin on VHS years ago and they added a few scenes that were not in the theatrical release.”
So there was another Daredevil spin off film this whole time and i didn’t even know about it;)
I suppose if the film does really well the there could be an IMAX re-release with some extra footage, a la Transformers.
just to let you know its been confiremd that captain america is not in the actual movie.

Thank God I have PS3, and there for this is a worth buying it, not to mention its also telling us why Blue Ray is worth buying it !
:sigh: Blu-Ray, the most overrated thing in the whole planet. Let HD media die right now, please.
I still won’t buy a BlueRay player…..
I love hearing about the new Hulk DVD even before it’s out! 70 minutes of extras! Awesome!
I’ve always been of the mind that extra footage that actually forwards the plot or fleshes out the story should be put back in the film for a director’s DVD cut. The Kingdome of Heaven Director’s cut is an excellent example. The theatrical release should lean and mean.
However, extra footage that just extends scenes without adding much should only be put on the DVD as featurettes.
Sorry, that’s Kingdom of Heaven Director’s cut.
This is cool news
Cant wait to go to theaters this weekend and pay $10 and get 2/3 or the film. NOT!
I hope they will be smart enough to include the extra footage in BLU-RAY quality, most blu-ray discs have the extras only in DVD quality
I bet that most of the footage are just alternate angles and rewritten scenes.
John you may have over-hyped this new Hulk movie.
Hmm I can understand the studio’s desire to deliver an action fest after the previous effort but I’m disappointed that a lot of what is probably character moments won’t be seen in the theaters.
Much like the LOTR:Extended Editions I suspect the definitive version of this movie will not be seen in the theater but at home.
hulk is by the same director as transporter 2, which was the worst action movie ive seen in about 10 years, so i dont care at all.
Finally saw it earler today. great movie! 2/2 for Marvel. there was a lot of stuff shown during the trailers that never made it to what was actually screened.
*The scene between Banner & Doc Samson that the original 2 trailers opened with where they discussed ‘aspects of his personality’.
* *General Ross getting chastised by a superior for helping create Abomination.
***Actually seeing Hulk kick Blonsky in the nuts.
****Banner telling Ross & Betty that the only thing that can stop Blonsky is within him.
I’m kinda suprised as most of the aforementioned scenes were heavily featured in so many of the tv spots & trailers.
still, Incredible Hulk is a definite “Balls To The Routh” movie which left you thirsting for more (maybe cos it felt way to quick).
I just got back from it and unfortunately had the worst crowd i’ve ever watched a movie with and it was almost a completely miserable experience for me………good film though;)
Where was captain america :\
