Get Smart Spinoff Direct to DVD

So you went out and saw Get Smart and you are just itching to see more. Better yet, you are just dying to know whats up with those geeky techs played by Nate Torrance and Heroes’ Masi Oka? Well if you are, then this is good news. Otherwise, scroll down. I am sure there is something else to read.

Nate and Masi are getting their own Direct to DVD spinoff to Get Smart and its a hell of a lot sooner than I would have thought.

Cinematical Says:

Warner Premiere, the studio’s direct-to-DVD arm for over a year now, they’ve had it up their sleeves to release a spin-off entitled Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control*, which would correspond to the events of that film’s story and arrive on shelves within weeks of that film’s release (next Tuesday, July 1, to be exact).

This is a great strategy but also a bit of a gamble, because not only are you hoping that the film is a hit, which will drive the popularity of anything related to the franchise, but you are also hoping that these two supporting characters are endearing enough to demand a movie of their own.

But I only say a bit of a gamble since they shot this at the same times as Get Smart with recycled set peices, and the same cast. So its not like they blew the wad getting this onto disc.

I always liked the idea of spinoffs on popular minor characters. The Penguins from Madagascar deserve a feature film of their own. Neil Patrick Harris could do his own spinoff without Harold or Kumar. And even the Ewoks got a pair of movies to themselves. Ok, scratch that last.

So with this in mind, can you think of any sidekicks or supporting cast that deserve their own films?

I’m gonna buy this dvd only because I love Patrick Warburton as Hymie, and the kid from Heroes is allways fun.
