Ebert Gives a Fucking Review for Young People Fucking

Roger Ebert has faced a great deal in the last few years, so I think its about time he lets out a little blunt passion. Giv’er hard E!

Cinematical Says:

Ebert gets around to writing a review of the Canadian film Young People F*cking, which he headlines with “Ok, here’s your f***ing review.” I almost spit my iced coffee all over my laptop screen when I saw this entry because, while I’m sure Roger is perfectly capable of spewing out the f-word on appropriate occasions, he’s just … well, he’s simply not the sort of guy one imagines going around randomly dropping the f-bomb.

It’s like hearing your sweet old grandmother saying “orgasm”. You are sure she knows what the word means, but to hear it comes so out of left field that you have to pause.

The review of the film is favourable, but he worries that most people wont see it simply because of the profanity in the title.

It might have been the very strategy of using such a blunt title to get the film noticed, but with any luck Ebert’s positive review will lure movie goers to give this a chance despite its controversial title.

You can read the review at Ebert’s Blog.

    “Young People Fucking?!”

How the hell does anyone get away with a title like that??

  2. Gershwyn Smith says:

Did You Know… there are almost 30 films with the word “fuck” in the title? They include ‘I Gonna Fuck You Back to the Stoneage’ and the no doubt feel-good religious classic, ‘In God We Fuck’.

Profanity in a movie title, I fear, only conveys the same desperate need to shock and gain attention that my eight-year-old nephew has when he says a “bad word”.

Oooooo, Mr. Filmmaker. You’re edgy. We get it.

  3. Nice. Gotta love Ebert.

I’m probably one of the few that wants to check this flick out simply because of the title. A buddy of mine that is a GM at one of my city’s larger theatres is wondering HOW they are going to put a poster to showcase this flick when about 60% of their audience is under the age of 18. That is not an issue for those of you above the age of majority, however, put yourself in a parent’s role for a minute and think about the consequences of your 6 or 8 year old asking you what “f*cking” means…

Hey Rodney, you say – “It’s like hearing your sweet old grandmother saying “orgasm”. You are sure she knows what the word means, but to hear it comes so out of left field that you have to pause.”

You do know that Ebert wrote Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls, right? :)

Highly recommended if you haven’t seen it.
