Wanted Sequel In The Works

Wanted2 LargeIt appears that Wanted has been tapped for a sequel before the birth has begun! We get the following story from our friends at the moviehole:

“We’re just finishing up a book adaptation for Universal of the James Siegel novel ‘Deceit.’ We’ve been hired to write the sequel to ‘Wanted’ by the same studio,” Haas tells Pajiba . “And we’ve got a few more things in the hopper that it’s a little premature to talk about.”

“‘Wanted’ has been terrific. We first started working on it when only the first issue of the comic came out, and as the book became crazier and crazier, we tried to keep the script grounded. Timur Bekmambetov is directing and has been interesting and gratifying to work with. The movie is going to be a gigantic, hard-R action movie that we hope will satisfy the comic fans.”

This film gets less and less appealing to me with each released photo and clip. I think a less is more approach may have benefitted this film’s advertising. Who knows – the movie could end up kicking ass. As of right now; I am not feeling it.

I don’t like superheroes that use guns. Gun on gun violence is perfected in the hands of Chow Yun Fan; everything else just seems to be a weak shadow in comparison. I prefer blow darts, knives, poison and strangulation from my assassins. I like my assassins to be silent, I am a stickler.

I would assume that this picture is testing well for them to already green lit a sequel, and I suppose that should be a good sign. The only thing we can do at this point is wait and see. Wanted is slotted for a release date of June 27, 2008.

This movie will have to be outstanding to make bank, because Jolie is NOT a box ofice draw.

This movie isn’t about heroes. I know they took liberties and deviated heavily from the comic, but I’m pretty sure it’s still about villains. Though they took away the capes, shit man and retard “Superman” clone.

  3. Sir Jig-A-Lot says:

Douglas , that’s the point of Wanted: no superheroes. just villains ruling the world. at least in the comic it was anyway.

I am not sure how this movie will do. I saw the first commercial and it looked fantastic but then I saw the second commercial and it looks more and more like last years Shoot Em Up which was a bag of shit insside of another bag of shit. I am hoping for the best but it could disappoint.

  5. Sir Jig-A-Lot says:

Shoot Em Up was an underappreciated gem with it’s tongue firmly in it’s cheek. the only truly great action spoof.

Wow…Sky high expectations and sequal in the works? Pretty cocky eh? let’s hope this does not crash, before their tongue gets chopped off.

wanted was very good. i watched it twice. now ill admit it wasnt the greatest but it was very good. made me feel almost like i did when i watch the matrix the first time. even thogh the last 2 matrix….in my opinion, wasnt all that great. but a good watch nun the leases i think itll do great with a sequel. and am hopeing and looking forward to another sequel for it. the ending was completly bad ass and made me want more like an addict feining for a cig. but these r my opinions. im sure there r ppl out there that disagree.and its all good. its a free country lol.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. I’m not one for surprise endings, and I prefer the “guy to get the girl” ending so I was not particuraly pleased with that aspect either. I would still love to see a sequel, and see if there was more than met the eye with who apparently died. I just wonder how they can move onward with every key player from the 1st movie being DEAD. But that’ll be up to the screenwriter. One major flaw I saw in this movie, was that Wesley’s training seemed to come about much too quickly. Or maybe they should have been more clear about how much time elapsed while he was being trained. Perhaps they just figured that his ability to produce extra adrenaline and heighten his senses would fill the gap.
