I am glad ya’ll did not skip this one because I very much enjoyed it. The pacing did not get to me too much, though I found it was noticeable. I don’t see how you couldn’t notice. I loved the cyclops fight and I laughed my ass off when he got stabbed in the eye! The island with the women was too fucking cool and it reminded me of castle Anthrax from Monty Python except with a curse. All things aside, you gotta give up for the cousin fucking, that’s some hot shit right there!

For the side notes, I still kick myself in the ass for never having watched Jason and the Argonauts. I have wanted to watch it but I cannot find it to rent. I think I am going to eventually break down and just order it at Amazon. I loved his coup de grace Clash of the Titans and one thing I recommend is checking out his feature commentary for the original King Kong. That was really excellent and I highly recommend it.

  2. The original King Kong is one of my favourite movies of all time. I snapped up the deluxe DVD the day it came out. I can’t believe it took so long to be released. It was almost impossible to find on VHS, and the only copy I had was taped off of television from the late 80s. The recreation of the Spider Pit sequence is tied with Harryhausen’s commentary for my favourite extra in the set.

I’m glad Harryhausen’s own films are finally being released with commentary tracks from the maestro. That reminds me, I still have to pick up 20 Million To Earth, Mighty Joe Young and It Came From Beneath The Sea.

This would probably be my least favorate one so far. It seemed to focus way too much on wet, half naked sailors.I enjoyed the end battle, the islands they visited, but everytime it showed the boat I knew it was going to be a long, boring scene of naked sailors bickering and longing for love. All in all, I guess it did have it’s good moments, but it felt there was too slow moving to feel like the epic it should be… 4 or 5 hydra heads from me
On an unrelated note, though the reason I didn’t get to watching this sooner, Doug have you checked out the special features on Rambo? The knife forging scene is him really forging the knife that they really use in the film.

Alright cool you have the exact same set. The spider pit sequence recreation was awesome. I liked how at how moments it really felt like it was something that was filmed in that era. But there were spots where it was obvious it was new. Still though I liked it and thought it was a bad ass addition. I have not seen Mighty Joe Young or It Came From Beneath the Sea in years. I need to check those out again. Cause one thing I have been doing lately is checking out old movies like Metropolis and Nosferatu. I just watched Birth of a Nation (I couldn’t believe half the shit in that movie) I have been really enjoying taking the trip back in time with these classics. I did forget to add my rating I did give this movie 6 out of 9 hydra heads as well.

I will also be mailing my audio files of questions to Doug today so I hope you get a chance to use them.
