Restricted “The Happening” Trailer

By John - May 17, 2008 - 11:04 America/Montreal

The good folks over at JoBlo offer up this new restricted “The Happening” trailer. Good trailer… but I still can’t get too excited about this new Sham-Hammer film. I think he’s lost it, especially after The Lady In The Water disaster.

I know what i am going to see the weekend of June 13th, and it’s not this movie. Hulk smash shamhammer

  2. Stevie says:

I really hope this is a good movie… we shall see.

  3. Jordan says:

I’m willing to give him another chance or two. I thought that Lady in the Water was a bit lame, but less than horrid. I certainly thought the sham-hammer was capable of better.

    You disagree. I know.

I’ll probably see this in theaters, and keep my fingers crossed the whole time. My judgment of Lady in the Water was somewhat affected by how much I respected him, but if The Happening sucks too……well…..we shall see.

The trailer doesn’t really tell me enough to make a judgment on whether it’ll be good or not.

  4. probitionate says:

Having read the script, I’ll be intrigued to see what peoples’ reactions are to what’s actually going on in the story. Maybe some are too biased, and this film might get an entirely different response if it was coming from another director. We shall see.

  5. miles says:

that trailer made me kind of want to see it.

apaprently i am a sucker for some decent kills.

  6. Kristina says:

There’s an apparently legit review floating around online claiming that this film can lay claim to the worst Marky Mark performance…EVER. The reviewer said this with zero exaggeration, and the review makes this film sound REALLY stupid. There’s spoilers, here, but they’ve been invisotexted, so it’s safe.

  7. Charles says:

Way to completely give up on director after one bad film John, very professional.

  8. John says:

    Hey Charles.

What the holy hell does “professional” have to do with having an opinion on a director?

And it’s not just 1 bad film. The Villaige was a sorry pathetic movie. Everyone one of his movies have gotten progressively worse and worse, culimating in that unholy mess called Lady In The Water.

You still have faith in the guy? Great, good for you. I hope “The Happening” turns out great… I just have no faith that it will… and for good reason.

  9. 1138 says:

One bad film? Granted good or bad, it is subjective. But man Night made some stinkers after Signs. Unbreakable, Signs, Lady In the Water, and the Village are pretty big stinkers in my opinion. I’ve been very disappointed in his subsequent films and wonder what the hell is he thinking??

But I am curious about this film, however if reviews are bad, both professional and fan, I’m skipping this sucker.

  10. Mozzerino says:

Now I gotta admit, the whole “people killing themselves in a horrific way” thing is kind of compelling, there’’s just something strangely fascinating about it that makes you want to witness it.
Still, this doesn’t convince me that this film is any good.

Gotta love the scene where the lion tears off the arm of a standing guy. As if that would really work.

  11. kiyo says:

I don’t know. when it comes m. night i’m really conflicted. on the one hand i find he has very interesting ideas but on the other he has been disappointing a lot lately. this trailer doesn’t have me all excited to see this movie but, as with his other movies, i will go see it, i’m a masochist that way. just please, please make this movie decent cause honestly i’ve given this guy a lot of rope and all he’s done is strangle me with it

  12. Charles says:

Personally I didn’t mind ‘The Villaige’ but I do agree that Lady in the Water was a suckfest. Then again I also thought that Deathproof was a suckfest but I’m not going to now doubt anything that Tarintino comes out with.

  13. chris (the real one) says:

good point charles….i still have faith in sham-hammer (lol) i thought the village was great and lady in the water really wasnt all that bad. true it was like he was sucking his own dick on screen but there were some pretty cool ideas on there. i might eventually see this.,..

  14. DON says:

    Eh whatever.

    HULK SMASH all the way.

  15. vargas says:

    >>One bad film? Granted good or bad, it is subjective. But man Night made some stinkers after Signs. Unbreakable, Signs, Lady In the Water, and the Village are pretty big stinkers in my opinion<<

I’m glad you took the time to admit that this was your opinion because in my opinion, your opinion is wrong. But I’m very biased – for Shyamalan. I think the hate for him goes far and above what is rational. The movie looks very interesting – as does all of his movies, IMO.

  16. 1138 says:

Granted it is my opinion but having aliens visit a planet to possibly conquer or simply inhabit, where 2/3 of the planet can kill you, is in my opinion kind of idiotic.

Also to find out that your arch enemy is the exact opposite of you, you being super tough and him being super fragile, is really comic silliness at it’s highest form. And I’m a avid comic reader.

And to find out that you’ve been living in a cage shielded and away from the modern world is just a plain poor man’s Twilight Zone…and I love the Twilight Zone.

But like I said that is just my opinion.

  17. Royal says:

I support Sham completely. It looks like I’m in the minority, but I love all of Sham’s movies. I just don’t understand it when someone says they hate his work. I hope you guys give his latest release a chance.

  18. Robert(wolf) says:

I’m digging the trailer. People killings themselves, I’m down for that.

  19. Jason Blosser says:

Clearly, the people in the movie are killing themselves because of Bush/Cheney/Halliburton!

  20. JackL says:

I’m puzzled by the number of people that took Lady in the Water at face value. To me, it seemed obvious that it wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. The bit about him casting himself as an amazing writer whose incredible book saves the world was him poking fun at his image as an egotistical ass. I suppose it depends on whether you think Shyamalan has a sense of humour or not. There was also the ‘documentary’ on the making of ‘The Village’ where he also made fun of his image (people were told not to make eye contact with him etc…).

I’m not saying that LitW was a great movie or anything (it wasn’t), just that a pretty large chunk of it was meant as a joke.

  21. Mattiac says:

    I’m with John on this!

  22. Jonathan says:

I can see why you have your reservations about the film John. Its cool if you hate ShamHam’s work John, a lot of people do, but I feel he is a fantastic director. Hopefully The Happening will sway your opinion

  23. Doug says:

I absolutely hated Lady in the Water, but I have really enjoyed his other work, Unbreakable being my favorite. Definitely willing to give this a shot – I actually think it looks decent.

  24. oumaima says:

i loved all of his films, especially signs and unbreakble , this movie is going to be good, hes a really good director.
