IronMan 2 in 2010

Its not really official but this is the closest we are getting to an announcement so far. I rank it akin to saying “If it snows in Canada sometime in the next 10 months…” kind of deal.

/Film says”

At the Hollywood premiere of Iron Man, Viacom/CBS Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey told Entertainment Tonight that if the movie does as well as expected, Paramount will greenlight a sequel for the same week in 2010. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader already holds claim to the “first weekend of the summer” (May 7, 2010), but Iron Man 2 could easily open a week earlier on Friday, April 30th 2010 if all goes well.

Considering most analysts are predicting somewhere in the $102 million for Thursday through Sunday totals, I think they can count on this as a “success”

Of course their modest goals are to break $70million which I think it will do easily. I still haven’t heard anything negative about this yet and a good handful of people HAVE seen this.

Considering how this timing would put this movie at the end of April and not at the “first week of Summer” will this up the Summer timetable for other movies that year? With the potential success of a sequel banging it out a day or two early for the race for Summer money, how will this affect other movies slated for that summer?

  1. i think that the first ironman was pretty good and the best thing for me was that it was a blend of comedy and seriousness to the story but from what i,ve seen of the second movie it just has too much comedy and is losing the main point of the film.

  2. Whenever Iron Man 2 is released it WILL BE BIG. In UK Iron Man 2 is released in May while Dawn Tredder is released in the Christmas holidays of 2010.

In the UK, as far as competition from other movies go, Iron Man 2’s biggest challenge comes from an adaptation of a well known British novel, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which is released in UK cinemas in less than a month before Iron Man 2. As a result Iron Man 2 will thrash Wonderland in more ways than one.

  3. I think Iron Man is THE movie for 2008, but maybe I am just bias. I just hope they explore more of IM;s drinking problwm, and how he deals with it. I know it is a action film, but the best think about Marvel Super Heroes is their flaws.

  4. The movie was great! Better then Great, it was Awesome!! They did exactly what makes a good film gain energy and understanding for future films. Yes, we’d all like to see great fight scene’s, but let’s be realistic…you need to make the back story known, which they did VERY WELL!! Any marvel fan would know what’s going on from the start, but they brought us a film that anyone, young or old, could get into and understand. That’s what makes a movie differ from good to GREAT! Save your “Big Fighting” expectations for the next ( 2 ) films in this trilogy, and then you won’t be disappointed when a good fight comes around…. War Machine is coming!!

  5. Rodney, you just made my day.

    Sequel? HECK YES.

Sorry, but I’m now super excited for it.
(Although with all things, I shouldn’t get my hopes too high.)

But still, thank you for releasing these things, even on a “maybe” basis.
As long as they do whatever they did with the first one, I’m all up for a sequel.

    Whoo!

  6. i thought the movie was awesome and being a huge fan of marvel comics and also thier movies i thought it was the best one ever even if i thought the spiderman movies were great this one takes the cake. but i didnt watch after the credits what happens?????

  7. jamie, u complain too much and u manipulate ur own facts..i mean what the hell? first u said one year? u’d rather wait then its two years? u like the idea of one year? what the hell man?
anyways about the movie, it may not be as what people would expect it to be but it is one hell of a great movie =)

    cheers people!

  8. Yeah, Iron Man is to Downy what Pirates was to Depp. It’ll open a huge amount of doors for him, not that they were that closed before, but like Depp it’s just increased his fan base.

  9. Ok I kind of agree with the fact that there wasnt enough fighting. I mean half the movie was him flying around and building the suit. It was awkward with the fact that the last line was “I am Ironman” and it ended right there. I expected like maybe some like news reports and maybe some scenes of him blowing more things up and saving people. Personally it ended two early. It would have been better if him and Pepper would have maybe gotten married or something like that. The last fight was nothing. You as the viewer would expect Ironman to kill the guy by his own power instead of using a outside force. Another thing I didn’t like was the lack of reality. I understand it was a superhero and everything but one thing if he fell after flying over a mountain and was smashed by hitting sand you would expect the villian huge robot dude (I forgot his name) to fall from like 87,000 feet up and land on a building to not only smash but to completely blow up the building. When the movie started it was kind of pointless to have a flashback after he was captured. We basically had to watch the part over. It would have been better if during that time they gave us more backround information. As for a sequel I personally think merging 2 superheros is bad cause the one will just take attention away frm the other and vise versa. Overall the movie was great.

  10. We are entitled to our own opinion.. so here is mine:
I have seen Ironman twice this weekend. I didn’t stay for the end credits the first time. >.<
I think the movie is absolutely amazing…
The acting and visual efftects are awesome.
The script is very well written.. and I think since Downey places the lead, it makes it even better.
I think he was born to play the role. He has been famous, but this is going to give him a whole new audience.

Ironman is fantastic. I am thrilled for the sequel. :-)

All the technology in the movie just absolutely blew my mind…twice!

  11. Rodney

hey thats okay man you enjoyed it and thats good.

i dont get it im jelous for everyone thats saying it was great cuz ive been waiting for this and now it wasnt that great and i thought it was gona rock

the scene were he goes back to afghanistan with the tank was awsome and the suit but that was it for me

i think the last fight was blah. and i sayd ALMOST nothing to the table. i mean the parts when he puts on the suit are priceless but there was no fighting almost. thing is when it ended i was like “wait thats it?” like i was waiting for some bigass fight. it was a good movie for sure…just kinda not what people sayd it would be

  12. Jamie? Nothing to the table? Sorry man, I have to disagree completely.

I dont know what movie you saw, but I went to Iron Man last night and it was pure genius. Best superhero movie of the year so far.

  13. I saw the movie thursday, at 8. right after i had a colonoscopy. lol i was so pumped for this movie. and of course they’re going to have to make a sequal. did you guys see the scene after the credits? PRICELESS!!!

  14. oh no

i just sawll it and i feel like shit. i hate myself SO MUCH for saying it, but it brought almost nothing to the table.
hey its my opinion guys im sorry but it was..idk how to explain it…sorta empty in a way.

    agh

i was so hyped about this.

  15. The “too many characters” thing doesnt work because they have to give you backstory for all of them. Avengers would be a disaster trying to catch up with all those members.

They will do individual movies to give you the backstory…. Then do Avengers.

  16. Just saw it. Great flick. A perfect blend of humor, drama, action and adventure. Surprisingly “realistic” in its tone. Which makes me wonder about the whole “Project Avenger” that Nick Fury talks about. We all know that too many characters fuck up a film so I wonder if throwing in a team of super heros is such a good idea. Unless they make a separate film with the Avengers and another one with just Iron Man.
When you put more than one fantastical character in a story it starts to lose its credibility.
All I’m saying that they should handle it with care.

  17. @Rodney

1 yea- no but its 2008-

    oh yeeah….

well then they have my permission. they may proceed with the movie as long as they forget about this whole “were making mandarin the new villain” nonsense and make either radioactiveman or crimson dynamo the next villain

  18. This movie will make more money than any marvel movie.
“WOW” “WOW” I’ll say it again “WOW” awesome movie from beginning to end.

  19. saw Ironman last night and was not dissapointed. The story moves at a good pace and feeld like a short 2 hrs.

Downey Jr. is perfect as Tony Stark and the effects look wicked.

Surprizingly the theatre i was in was half & half men to women.

  20. Saw Ironman last night. It was great. Good basis for the intro and great lead up to the sequel.

lol, James Rhodes while looking at the Ironman suit: “Next time baby”.

  21. just saw iron man tonite.

it will make a pile of cash. this movie is so good, i can’t believe it. it blows spider man 1 out of the water.

fx are perfect, story is pitch perfect. gwyneth is hot, downey is awesome. bridges is a great villain. go see this and fer cryin’ out loud stay for the end credits.

    YAY, JOHN FAVREAU!!!

ps. projector died near the beginning of the third act for about 2 mins. FREE MOVIE PASSES!! YIPEE!

  22. Jamie, allow me to answer your posts with one.

First, we “know this shit” because it was in the article. I dont have a crystal ball or some divine future sight. The /Film article said that the studio heads have agreed that if this weekend goes “well” that they will greenlight a sequel to come out in the same week.. which means April 30/10

Also, it will be in TWO years. That is plenty of time for them to get a script approved and get the ball rolling on a sequel. Its only 2008 my friend. 2010 is two years from now.

As for you getting married. I cannot say. You might have to work that one out yourself.

    Just sayin.

  23. okay i cant let it go!!!
ironman ONE hasnt come out yet!
yet you guys have an exact date on ironman 2!

just- rodney? will i get married?

    (still think its too early)

  24. duude
2010 is waaay too early man- ONE YEAR!!??

thats too early spiderman 2 took like 2 and a half years man..if theres going to be more action it should taker a little more

dont get me wrong i want to see it tomorrow but- id rather wait it out you know?

thanx 4 the heads up btw rodney even though it might be bs considering thats 12 months away…thats like the time it takes to make a baby in japan years….(kinda)

  25. lol holy shit- dude how do you guys know this shit??
    no seriously man…
this website is like powered by some voodoo shit dude…no dont tell me i mean its okay you guys might have a “if i told you id have to kill you” policy so id leave it at that…
