I guess I’m the girl who is the exception to the rule (I usual am)…this movie won’t drive me from the room, I’ll be pulling up a chair.
When I was a kid I watched this movie I don’t know how many times when it had it’s run on HBO and just loved it. It was another of those father/daughter/brother movie bonding moments too.

I’m all for a remake, which is rare. However, I have my doubts on the director…I hated Sahara…ugh, I couldn’t even finish that flick. I’ll hold out for hope that maybe he’ll surprise us OR drop the project. Still, if he does drop out that doesn’t mean we’ll get someone better….what if it went to someone like Bret Ratner?? -shudder-

Yea! From the makers of Maid of Honor and Sahara… Are they even going to remotely take making an attempt at this movie seriously?

75% chance of being pure fecal matter. I really hope they own up, put some love and thought into the material, and really try to make a good Flash Gordon movie, I just don’t think this creative team does that, they may just cash checks. I hope this isn’t the case.

Thanks to my high school prinicpal, our whole school went to see this back then. Funny thing though is memory is foggy except for some of the movie’s bits and bites and of course the music.

I guess it’s time to revisit this. Or maybe I should just wait for the remake.

Funny….I can usually get my wife to watch anything with me and she didn’t even make it 30 minutes in for Flash Gordon.

flash gordon is the greatest comic book movie ever.

not only does it have eye-popping visuals, it has the uncanny ability to drive most women from the room.

I had a Flash Gordon fancy dress party about 6 months ago, I went as Prince Baron. God i love that film.

Hmmm….well, it can’t be any worse than… the Sci Fi Channel TV show that is done on the cheap.

In any case, Doug, kudos. You are spot on. As intentionally campy (and fun) as the 1980 film was, there were other elements within the film which tipped the hat to the serials- be it Max Von Sydow as Ming (perfect role-and the one part not so campy) or the old style rockets blowing into vats of hemp like smoke and clouds of sherbet.

I’m totally down with that idea.
I always thought of Flash Gordon as some kind of “Indiana Jones in space” and I think that is the way they should approach it. Make it a big action-heavy adventure spectacle.
Oh and they better use the Queen song. It is just pure awesomeness. If they don’t, I will refuse to see that film. It belongs to Flash.
