Ewan McgregorWe hear wind today that Ewan McGregor has scored the lead in Amelia; we get the following scoop from the professionals at Variety:

Ewan McGregor has signed on to co-star in the Amelia Earhart biopic “Amelia” for Fox Searchlight. Hilary Swank, Richard Gere and Virginia Madsen have already boarded the project, which Mira Nair is helming.

Story centers on the legendary aviatrix (Swank) and chronicles her rise to fame, marriage to publisher George Putnam (Gere) and passionate affair with Gene Vidal (McGregor), father of author Gore Vidal. Ronald Bass penned the screenplay.

The story of Amelia Earhart is a fantastic tale of a heroic woman snapped from the world in a shroud of mystery. I think her life story is one that needs to be remembered and l am pleased that a modern biopic is being made. Ewan McGregor is always a welcome addition to a cast and I am glad he was able to come aboard this project.

I LOVE this guy in Moulin Rouge and nothing else. His career has stalled as of late, although he was admittedly the second best thing about that other trilogy(the first being Lord Maul).

What about Trainspotting and/or Down With Love?

  3. Kristina says:

Oh yeah, I forgot about Down With Love. Haven’t seen Trainspotting.

Rent it, go. It’s a great film about hooligans and the lives they lead.
