Austin-PowersIt appears that another Austin Powers film is not out of the question. We get the following status update from our friends at the moviehole:

Recent rumours suggesting a fourth “Austin Powers” movie being in the works were quickly debunked by, well, someone who seems to think they know it’s not. Today however, Jay Roach, director of the three “Powers” pics, told MTV that the new movie is still a possibility.

“I know Mike’s thinking about it,” the producer/director said. “Which is something of a move in a direction.”
“There isn’t a script like that or anything yet,” Roach added. “But it’s something, that [is still alive]…he’s got other stuff to do too, and that one’s completely driven by Mike. If he wants to do it, I’ll definitely want to be involved. But I don’t know yet when that’s gonna happen.”

I am fine if this film never happens. The series was getting a little tired to me, and I found each installment to be less enjoyable to the one before. I think everyone involved should be happy with 3 and call it a wrap.

Meyers currently has The Love Guru on deck, and it really looks bad. We will get to see the film June 20th, and I hope it is better than the trailers would have us believe.

International friends - would you like to see another Austin Powers film; or do you think the series is good at three.

Nope. I grew up with Austin Powers. I remember watching the first and second movies a few times in the theaters around my Middle School and High School days. I even went to see an AP movie when I went on my first date. So it’s safe to say that the AP movies were a big part of my life.

That said, I think the series is through. The last film, while not nearly as funny as the previous two, did contain the best scene of all three movies (IMO). The “Austin Powers Movie” scene (Danny Devito as Mini me, classic!). But overall it was disappointing.

So, no. I don’t think there should be another one. If Mr. Myers wants to continue the character then by all means, do so. But don’t make it a movie. Maybe a series of online shorts on a Funnyordie.com or something.

Also, I don’t think “The love guru” looks THAT bad. It looks, to me, like Myer’s regular brand of silly, catchphrase based humor. I just don’t think it will be nearly as good as his past work. But who knows. There’s always the possibility that it will impress even the most cynical of comment posters.

First two were great cinematic gold, the third should have all copies rounded up and burned at a garbage dump. If they go ahead with the 4th, I’m hoping it’s miles better then the third.

  3. Those people who want to see Austin Powers again can just pretend that the Love Guru is an undercover gig for the International Man of mystery!

The reason Love Guru is likely to flop is the same reason that we dont need another Austin Powers flick.

If they DO go for Austin Powers 4, I hope he is stuck in the 80s. There just isnt enough comedy revolving around asymmetrical hairstyles, New Wave music and jelly bracelets.

  4. I liked all 3 movies… sure the third was repetitive by the end, but the ending left it open for new roads in the story… not to mention that Many of the 007 bond movies got repetetive to an extent, so why not a fourth? I’m interested
