Anchorman Sequel Being Planned
It appears that Adam McKay and Will Ferrell are interested in doing Anchorman 2. We get news of this sequel thanks to our friends at the moviehole:
McKay tells Collider that Will Ferrell will be putting on the 70s duds again sometime in the next couple of years. “I’m looking to do another movie, I might do this other movie called Channel 3 Billion which is kind of this science fiction/Brazil type comedy. Then after that, Will and I are like let’s do Anchorman 2…so you’re talking like 2 years maybe we’ll do it. But we’re going to do it, for sure.”
McKays it’s a sure-thing, unless of course Paul Rudd and Fred Willard balk at the idea. “We’re dying to do it. Unless we can’t get the cast together, which is always kind of a tricky thing. But, I think, with that cast we’re all friends, so yeah, we want to do it.”
I love Anchorman, It’s probably my favorite Will Ferrell comedy; Ron Burgundy is an outstanding character, and the supporting cast is legendary. With great stand alone films, very seldom do I want a sequel; but if they can get everyone together for another round – I would be game. It will be much more expensive to bring Paul Rudd and Steve Carell this time round, but certainly worth it.
I must admit, I am getting excited about the Channel 4 News Team getting back together. There is a wealth of adventure left in these characters, and I am wondering what it will take to get Ron Burgundy back from his gig at a major network. Will a local San Diego crisis bring Ron Burgandy back to channel 4? Will Baxter call upon the bears for help and save the day once again? Who knows, it looks like we will have 2 years or so to think about the options; and now we hurry up and wait.
International friends – would you welcome an Anchorman sequel? If so, what/who would you like to see in the film?

i’m in. & as you pointed out,Nagy, only if the rest of the original cast are along for the ride & firing on all cylinders. Anchorman was the only great film Ferrell has done really. Stranger Than Fiction was ok but had it’s flaws. everything else he has starred in was total shite.
I must have been the only person who thought this movie was complete shit.
I only laughed a few times (maybe) off the top of my head. The rest of the movie was spent waiting for laughs that never came.
Screw Anchorman 2.
The first time I watched Anchorman I didn’t care for it that much, but then I watched it a couple of more times with friends and I realized the genius of the flick. It’s become my favorite Will Ferrell movie, but I’m skeptical about a sequel.
Anchorman is my all-time favorite comedy, and I would be more than happy if they made a sequel. The only possible problem is that they may not get all the original cast, and I definately don’t want to see a new movie based on Ron and his new major network team. Will Ferrell is great and all, but the ensemble made that movie.
Christina Applegate is a must have as well. She fucking ruled in that film
Anchorman 2 will only work if Steve Carell is in it too, he was genius as Brick Tamland.
I Love Lamp…
I’m for it. I’d like to see them at least mention something about Brick either being in prison, or getting out soon (maybe at the beginning of the movie). He did kill a guy with a trident, after all.
Carrell did steal the show in the film. & of corse Applegate has gotta be in the mix. that’s the best role she’s had since Married With Children’s heyday.
I will punch you in the ovaries if you disagree with me about the necessity for a Ron Burgundy sequel!
