X-Files: I want to Believe

By John - April 16, 2008 - 10:20 America/Montreal

X-Files-2-Want-BelieveAs you all know by now there is another X-Files movie on the way that is already approaching the end of production. X-Files was one of those shows that was sick popular and was included in just about everything that ever referenced pop culture from spoof films to The Simpsons.

The show was wonderful for a while… then sucked… got a little better… and then ended with one of the worse series finales in the history of television. However, no matter how badly it ended, never underestimate the power of nostalgia! And so the new X-Files movie now has a title:

X-Files: I want to Believe

I’m not thrilled with the sound of the title, but to its credit it is very much a title that is consistent with the show itself so you won’t hear any complaints from me about it.

So what do you think about the title for the new X-Files movie? Like it? Hate it? Looking forward to the movie? (Source: XFiles News)

Shit title. Complete shit. X-Files 2 is more than enough.

  2. Brendan says:

The title is mediocre- Obviously going for the whole nostalgia thing, but I am extremely excited for the film… I’m actually really interested in seeing how they included Amanda Pete, Callum Keith Rennie, and… *sigh* Xzibit…

But seriously- I’m going back now and watching all bagiliion seasons in preparation- should be done by the time the new movie comes out

  3. I was a pretty big X-Files fan back in they day and am really looking forward to the new movie. But this title does nothing for me. I’m in favor of keeping the title simple at “X-Files 2.” I’d even go for “X-Files 2: The Truth is Out There.”

  4. dingo101 says:

I concur — not a great title. I am looking forward to the flick, however, but am being careful to not expect too much….if it’s on par with the first flick, I’ll be happy. It’ll just be nice to see those characters again onscreen.

  5. Phil Gee says:

I don’t think you can continue with this ‘Quantum of Solace’ is the worst title ever line of though Mr Campea. That’s what i think:p

  6. steven says:

the title says everything i’m feeling. it was a great series, but as a whole it was horrible (at least the last like 4 seasons were to me) i heard that this was going to be like the “monster of the week” episodes which i care nothing for. the mythology was what got me hooked….i think i’ll wait to rent this one

  7. aCertainPOV says:

“I Want To Believe” is on the UFO poster in Mulder’s office. So it’s a nod to the show. Doesn’t really bother me and doesn’t really do anything for me.

This isn’t exactly a movie I was waiting for. It’s been years since I watched “The X-Files” and I stopped watching the show before it’s final season. But it may be nice to see something new. But it’s not a must see for me.

  8. Antonio says:

I read this comment over at JoBlo and have to repeat it here:
“I WANT TO BELIEVE that they could have come up with a better title.”

  9. Michael_C says:

I’d rather see, “X-Files: We’re Abandoning all the Alien shit,” to make me more comfortable.

  10. Jim says:

All I know is, this new movie better feature the return of the Peacock family.

Hey, maybe THAT should have been the title.

  11. leeloo says:

    x files 2: i believe seasons 6 through 9 never happened.

  12. AjaxLou says:

I do the same thing with the SW prequels Leeloo.

‘I Want to Believe’ – meh. Is that the title of the movie or the studio’s take on the fans mindset?

  13. nbakid2000 says:

Sounds like an amazingly crappy cheesy title. It sounds like someone thought this up when they were on the shitter.

  14. kc says:

I want to believe they’re going to make a good movie.
I want to believe that they’ll recapture the magic of the early seasons.
I want to believe that they’re not calling it I want to believe… that’s a frigging tagline, not the name of the movie. That would be like calling the new Star Trek, Live long and prosper.

  15. Christian says:

Bad title. Subtitle sounds like “Yeah, we know the finale sucked. This movie will redeem us. Believe.”

  16. Nazz says:

I have to be honest, when I read the title of this post I thought it would be your editorial post about the upcoming X-Files film.

I can see in the future that critics who hate this film will make some lame puns about the title.

  17. Title sub par for sure.

  18. Jay says:

What a letdown! I want to believe in ghosts….bla..bla…where did they pick it up from? A 5 year old????

    LOUSY!

  19. kim says:

I cant believe people care what they named it to be honest, but there may be a reason for the title once you have watched the film, apart from Mulders poster!
Wonder if they will remember Scully had a baby.

  20. Lisa says:

I am so sick of people bitching about the f*cking title…..

  21. alex says:

I actually enjoyed it. if you watched some of the episodes. You would know that not every episode would be about aliens or government conspirity. you would need to understand why the director did what he did. It was like the last 45 min episode for the most anticipated tv series ever. And the title has nothing to do with the movie what so ever. But personally i liked the first movie they made.
