The Kind One

RidleyscottIt looks like Ridley Scott and Casey Afflect are going to team up for a 30′s gangster flick. We get the skinny on this project thanks to the professionals at Variety:

Ridley Scott will produce period noir drama “The Kind One” for Warner Bros. Casey Affleck is attached to star in the film, which is based on a novel by Tom Epperson, who will pen the screenplay.

Story, set in 1930s Los Angeles, centers on an amnesiac who finds himself working for a mobster — a killer given the nickname “the Kind One” — and falling in love with the thug’s girlfriend. Scott and Jules Daly are producing for Scott Free; Ideaology’s Sean Bailey (“Gone Baby Gone”) is also producing.

Ridley Scott is hit and miss with me. Some films I love; and others I am left wondering if it’s the same guy. I will always give him the benefit of the doubt, in hopes that the next project will be in the “good” pile.

The 1930′s is a cool era for period pieces, especially gangster films. The cars were bad ass; they actually look like they were designed for drive-by shootings! Tommy guns are the most romanticized machine guns (and match the cars). To finish off the look, everyone wore a suit and a hat! Gangsters in the 30′s dressed for success.

Los Angeles still has a number of cool buildings from the 20′s and 30′s and I hope this film will showcase them. One of my favorite things to do when I am in Hollywood is walk around and check out the art deco buildings that are strewn about the town. It was a fantastic age of design, and revisiting this very artistic period always makes for fantastic visual storytelling.

I am interested in this picture and will be sure to keep you posted on the updates!.

I’m tired of Mr. Scott’s dabble into crime genre. ENOUGH!!!

Go back to SCI-FI, your forte…

This director (which I happen to like) has tackled almost all major genres and that’s quite an accomplishment.
