LutherWe get news of a Martin Luther assassination film today titled The Heretic. We get wind of this picture thanks to the professionals at Variety:

Phoenix Pictures has snapped up Javier Rodriguez’s spec script “The Heretic” and is fast-tracking the Renaissance-era action-adventure thriller. Story revolves around a fallen priest-turned-hitman sent by a rogue archbishop to assassinate Martin Luther, only to discover that not everyone is telling the truth. Phoenix plans to start production by the first quarter.

Martin Luther is a man that changed the course of history with a single act of defiance and a lifetime devoted to the study of scripture. He remains a polarizing figure to this day and his schism from Rome has caused a myriad of splits since he first cracked the glass. I am thrilled that he is an assassination target in a period piece!

Not only do we have Martin Luther, but the assassin that hunts him is a fallen priest turned killer! As a former seminarian that has since abandoned my faith and the teachings of the church – I always find stories about fallen holy men to be particularly amusing. I hope he still wears the uniform of a priest as a disguise that grants a false sense of security to his victims!

This film will shoot in the fresh new year and we will be certain to keep you up to speed on the progress of the film
