Official Plot Synopsis For The Dark Knight Released

Batmanintro
Warner Bros has released an official plot synopsis for The Dark Knight. The following synopsis was made available to us thanks to our friends at slashfilm:

The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan with star Christian Bale, who returns to continue Batman’s war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

There you go! No surprises from the synopsis, this is all information we have known for sometime. One thing that stands out to me is the mention of Harvey Dent. It looks like Eckhart is going to have a fairly significant role in the film, and this is fine with me. I am a fan of Eckhart and am guessing that they will be using this film to prep him for the role of Two Face in the future. I have never been that enthused about the Two Face character, but I am interested in seeing what Eckhart can do with him.

  1. Bjon86 your right on about the vfx for Two_face. I’ve heard he really looks more disturbing then Joker.

One reason Joker can’t carry the film is because Batman’s so kickass that smiley will prob only get away from him once. I’ve also heard that Two-face is the main heavy.

Why does everyone refer to Spider Man 3 and the 3 bad guys that just ruined it.

Anyone see X men 3 and the 50 bad guys that ruined that??

  2. It’s just so sad that they couldn’t stretch a Joker story out for an hour and a half.

You’re risking a lot when you try to add two origin stories in one movie as Spidey 3 has done such a good job of showing us.

  3. Yo I heard that Two Face is actually the real main villain in this movie, but obviously you can take that with a grain of salt.

BUT I heard that what they did to create Two Face was Nolan had Eckhart shoot all his lines as Two Face like a sane human being and then had him do all of them again as a psychotic son of bitch and I’m guessing from that bit of intel that they are going to digitally split his face down the middle with him doing all his shit normally on one side of his face and the crazy on the other side. Sounds bad ASS if you ask me.

  4. mmmm Two-Face does make an appearance in this film. Nolan has stated it as well as Aaron Eckhart. Riddler on the other hand…no I don’t think so. There were tons of rumors about Anthony Michael Hall being the Riddler which ended up being false. That was the only time anyone thought the Riddler was in the film. Hall is just a reporter.

But if we are getting into favorite villains. No doubt the Joker and Two-Face are the 2 top Batman villains. Luckily Two-Face hasn’t been done any justice on screen yet so it will be good to see him finally done correct. The casting of Aaron Eckhart already shows they are going the right direction. I’ve always has a soft spot for Clayface and Bane personally tho. Just massive baddies that are fun to watch Batman brawl with.

And whoever said they aren’t expecting Nolan to be able to make the sequel as good as the first….are you serious? For one, he is putting the best villains in the sequel. Two, Nolan has not made a bad movie…ever…period…never.

  5. When I first heard about this I was cool with it but then I saw the preview and I didn’t really get that excited about it, I didn’t really feel that twisted feeling from the Joker and frankly I’ll probably go see it just because I’ll give it the Benifit of the doubt but I don’t really hold high hopes for this movie.
Joker is my fav characters because he’s Just so loony and twisted you never know what he’ll do or say.
sure his makeup looked dark and cool but the feel from the Trailer left more to be desired.
I’m not one of those hardcore Jack Fans though I did enjoy his Joker, I just wasn’t that Impressed with Heath Ledger’s Joker.
I won’t be seeing it on the IMAX here in Madtown because it just has the name and not the screen size of a real IMAX, There’s another theater here that has a bigger screen and it cost LESS than the 10.50 or 11 it costs for the IMAX.
I’ll be watching it on just as big a screen with suround sound for only $5.50!
I’ll keep the change thank you VERY much…LOL

  6. The number one thing i wanted from this film was Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent forming their secret alliance to rid Gotham of crime their own way, slightly above the law, and to have at least a good portion of the film play out Harvey Dent as a character before his transformation. So i couldn’t be happier.

The only problem for us Brits is that we have to wait an extra week more than you guys to see the film so avoiding soilers is going to be very hard.

  7. Apparently Harvey Dent has the arc in the film that will lead to him playing two-face in the third.

P.S. You guys gotta see this in IMAX! It is the first time in history a movie has used IMAX cameras for certain scenes. I saw the first six minutes in IMAX and it was incredible! I have never seen anything like it! It fills the whole screen, and the resolution is so high, you feel like you’re actually in the movie!

  8. I always liked the Riddler, but that’s me. I like Two-Face more than the Joker to be honest, but it’s mostly due to the fact that he used to be really good friends with Batman, and that’s what makes him such a interesting villian.

  9. @Klendathu

Most people who don’t know the comics have only the Tommy Lee Jones performance in Batman Forever as a reference for who Two Face is. That probably has a lot of people unenthused. Me personally, I was always more of a Joker fan than a Two Face fan, but that’s just me. You said the problem yourself in your post.

“He’s Batman’s SECOND greatest nemesis.” Joker is tops, which is why more folks are pumped to see him.

  10. Does anyone think that Christopher Nolan can two-peat on how successful and lauded Batman Begins was? Or even if it is good, everyone will be comparing it and claiming it just doesn’t stand up. I loved the first one so much…trying not to get my hopes too high for Dark Knight. But then again, as I like to say, if Christopher Nolan directed me out of my driveway each morning, it would probably win an oscar.

  11. Ya for real…how can you not like Two-Face? He is as much of a psycho as Joker but has so much more depth to him. Hence, why Nolan is so fucking smart and knew that the Joker character would not be able to hold an entire film himself and knew to also put in Harvey Dent’s development.

  12. Yeah, that synopsis doesn’t reveal anything…and I’m GLAD. It’s so hypocritical of me, I know. Sometimes, I’ll see a trailer and wish they’d shown more. Sometimes I’ll think they didn’t reveal enough. But for the big flicks of the summer, I’m trying to avoid spoilers. I really enjoy being a little in the dark for once. This is one of those movies that I’m avoiding spoilers for. Some new Joker pics were released, and I purposely ddin’t look at them. Sometimes, it’s nice to be surprised.

And I really cannot wait to see how the Batman/Gordon relationship blossoms in this one. I rewatched Begins a few weeks ago, and I was surprised at just how much I liked their scenes together. In past Batman movies, you could barely tell that Gordon and Batman knew each other, let alone that they were close. I’m really looking forward to seeing those two together again.
