It looks like Brad Pitt will star in his own Indiana Jones style adventure film in the Lost City Of Z. We get the scoop this morning from our friends at comingsoon:
Paramount Pictures has preemptively bought “Lost City of Z,” a David Grann manuscript about the search for a lost city in the Amazon, with Brad Pitt to produce the feature adaptation through his Plan B as a potential starring vehicle.
Variety says Grann’s forthcoming nonfiction book concerns British explorer Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett, who was attempting to find the so-called City of Z when he and his party disappeared in 1925. Over the next 70 years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett’s path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers. Pitt would play Fawcett.
Hidden Cities, Forgotten Temples and Lost Civilizations make for fantastic action/adventure films. In films like this the City Of Z becomes a character, those with attention to detail should be able to divine clues about her character from the architecture, state of ruin and the writing on the walls. No matter where you live, your city testifies to the history of its inhabitants.
I enjoy a good jungle hunt every now and again and think this could be a fun film. I am hoping for Indiana Jones meets Apocalypto, but we will have to wait and see what direction they will take this.
I love the title, it sounds like it was thought up by Dr. Seuss.
I also just finished the book. It’s first rate. The story is not about
sizzling special-effects action. It’s about character, burning intellectual curiosity, endurance and sacrifice. This is the antithesis of a sexy story. It’s brutal but absorbing and filled with speculation on many levels. They should do a parallel plot line tracing David Grann’s story as well, since it does have a pay-off. I could see Noah Wiley as Grann.
Percy Harrison Fawcett was the inspiration for Indiana Jones.
Only partially. Roy Chapman Andrews was the real inspiration. He was an exact “contemporary” of Indiana Jones, and an American to boot.
I just finished the book. Throughly faciniating. Also have read the book 1491. Which deals with pre-Columbian America. Puts a different light on what we were taught in school.
The book is so not Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford did a great job and the Indiana series was fantastic. I think the Lost City of Z will be more intellectual and Brad Pitt is one to pull it off. Even though the explorer P.H. Fawcett vanishes, it only adds more to the mystery of chasing dreams and the real facts about lost civilizations. I can’t wait for the movie!
The book is excellent and has the potential for a good movie. I don’t see an “Indian Jones” concept here; those who suggest as much are jumping the gun – just because the setting would/could work for an “Indiana Jones-style” movie – doesn’t mean it will be. If Brad Pitt produces and stars in it – nothing to worry about -it WILL be good! He’s NOT just handsome -he’s intelligent, as well. He didn’t get where he is today just on outstanding good looks! I can’t wait to see the movie.

I’ve read the book, got an ARC, and can’t wait for the movie. If they keep it the same as the book it is going to be great.
I’m from Brazil and would love for him o do a movie there and perhaps see the poor areas and the need the awareness of environment protection. Who knows he may even adopt a Brazilian child.
Anything with Brad Pitt and I will watch it.
Another Indiana Jones dirivative.
Ever since Pitt married the tattoo-you enigma known as Angelina Jolie,I don’t know how to put it, “he’s whipped”.
The Good Shepherd more or less.
Also, the guy didn’t DO anything Indiana Jones style – all he did as far as archaeology goes is explore and tell people what he had seen – which apparently, from what I gather, isn’t *much* – cool stuff he saw – but enough to make a story JUST on the Lost City of Z? No. I think not.
As I said, I think it’d be more feasible to make a story based on his actual life. Anything other would be another “American Gangster”.
According to what I’ve researched on this guy, this movie would be largely speculative. No one knows what happened to this guy, although there are theories involving natives and cannibalism.
Quite honestly, I don’t see this becoming another Indiana Jones type movie unless they took the utmost liberties with it. Besides, the guy is dead. It’ll be fascinating to see how they deal with the end – he just disappared and was never heard from after his last telegram to his wife.
Maybe a story over his general life would be more interesting and movie-worthy.
So he has World War Z AND City of Z, now all he needs is Dragonball Z and then I’ll say, hmmmmm…….
Not familiar with the book, but sounds exciting.

Loved the original book;”Exploration Fawcett”,my reservation about the film ,is that they will continually say zee,rather than the english ZED,which may seem petty,….but would turn me off the film entireley.
