I really think the theaters need to pay for this as it's a feature that draws people into theaters to see films instead of waiting for DVD releases and cable broadcast where the 3-D technology isn't available. The Studio does it's part by spending the money developing the technology and producing the films at added expense to them, the theater owners should do their part to take advantage of the opportunity. Just as theater owners must invest in seat upgrades, stadium seating, better concession menus etc.. to remain competitive and to draw in crowds, digital 3-D upgrades are just the latest investment that will hopefully translate into stable or increased theater attendance. They really should cause in the longrun it would be more cost-effective.
