Paramount Invades Facebook with “VooZoo” addon

For a studio so vengefully wrathful about beneficial “leaked” information coming out on the net, Paramount would be the last of the Hollywood Mafia to use Facebook as a viral marketing tool.
Paramount Pictures will become the first major studio to make thousands of movie clips available for use on the internet, launching its VooZoo application Monday on Facebook.“The short clips for a movie that you’ve already seen before helps you relive the moment,” said Derek Broes, Paramount’s senior vice-president of entertainment.
Users of the popular social networking site will have access to footage from thousands of movies, including Forrest Gump and The Ten Commandments.
Facebook users can send the video clips to others users on the site.
Paramount is notorious for attacking news sites for sharing information about movies demanding they remove the “offensive” materials. I am not talking about true leaked info or spoilers etc. Those I understand. But even the harmless stuff that does nothing but benefit the studio generating serious online buzz about their releases. They don’t want that out either.
So colour me surprised to find out that Paramount is getting on the Facebook bandwagon and offering an addon that will let you spam your friends with little clips from their library of movies.
Now in addition to finding out which Harry Potter Wand you are, fighting vampires against werewolves and selling your friends, you can now litter your friends list with clips from Paramount!
I reject almost every addon request I get. (I think I have 3 installed) And there is about 10 daily that I have to discard. This will be about as fun as the “SuperWall” and “FunWall” addons.
You have ignored a request from Paramount.

WTF IS up with the new design?
i like it a lot.
/weep, Can’t stand this new design, looks like you downgraded. The website lost its character!
The website now looks so…plain.
Sorry for the third comment in a row, but how do we tell who wrote the articles now? I don’t see a name anywhere.
Hey DNT,
We’re right in the middle of updating some stuff. The author’s name is coming in just a little while tonight.
Ok, thanks!
the new website has too much text. u should go back to the old design. it’s much cleaner.
Hey Batman,
There is actually about 20% LESS text in this design. However, keep in mind we’re not done… we’re actually in the middle of updating it. This isn’t the final product yet.
sorry for being an ass John. i’ve been with movieblog since its inception and wanted to provide constructive criticism. keep up the great work! (:
The new design looks awesome John. I was wondering, could you add a plugin for comments for individual posts? I see a comments feed but I assume it’s an RSS feed for all the comments from all the posts combined (the newest ones that is).
So, do you like the Paramount VooZoo aplication? It wasn’t clear.
This design is sooooo much cleaner and fresher than the previous one, and it’s laid out more ligically… Good move.
BTW, DNT
The author is to the right of the topic.
The VooZoo is something I’ll be adding shortly… Gotta try it out. Hopefully it doesn’t have too many glitches.
DNT, let me rephrase that. The author is on the main page, to the right and just above the topic. I think John’s statement that they’re working on it is for the actual thread page itself… Am I correct there, Gio?
Doesn’t seem to be a VooZoo app anywhere to be found…
Godfather. If you read the post you would see that Paramount is intending to launch it on Monday.
Just sayin.
Ya… I miffed that part… I read it as it started this past Monday… My bad, Rodney…
I’ve sent VooZoo clips, received them, and posted them on my FB page. It works pretty well. Some of the clips are just one sentence or even shorter, like Eddie Murphy laughing, but there are some LONG scenes from School of Rock and the entire hanging-upside-down scene from Mission Impossible. Pretty cool.
Wow…great conversation about VooZoo here. haha
To be honest, this blog annoyed me for 2 reasons:
1. The writing.
2. Bashing Voozoo and Paramount.
I don’t see how you can blame Paramount for trying this. It’s better than trying to go through a lame YouTube channel. Sure, there are way too many apps on Facebook…but this is actually a cool one. Sure (again), it’s in it’s infancy, but that’s to be expected with any new endeavor. I’ve used it for about a week now and I’d rather post good movie clips on a friends page than an image or emoticon or something…
So, in closing, I like it. I don’t think they are “vengefully wrathful,” although I would say they are increasingly intuitive when it comes to being genuinely regarded as harmonious with the masses…or something writery like that.
-Guy who is sick of haters of the studio system only because they are on the outside
Roger, since you claim to be such an avid reader of TMB you would see how vengefully wrathful Paramount is. We have been asked to stop giving them free publicity with less than polite alternatives more than once.
If you read the post, or anything ELSE ever written on this site, we have no problem with studios taking every advantage to promote their films. Hell, just talking about them (good or bad) gives the studios free promotion.
I do find a certain amount of irony that you think this is better than some “lame youtube channel” when if the post was written about Paramount starting a YouTube channel, you would be agreeing with me. But if I dont think Facebook needs another addon, then I am just bashing Paramount? Kettle? Black?
We are “the outside” since we are and have always been regular movie fanatics who just happen to share our opinion on the movie news on a website. So we are just as “outside” the movie industry as you are, and we like it that way. I take it as a compliment that you think we are no better than you are.
I am not a “hater”. I simply have an opinion that is different from yours. Actually my opinion is the same as yours, but in a different flavour.
Happy Reading.
Rodney,
Never claimed to be an avid reader of this blog. I was simply referring to this post. Perhaps, I should have replaced “blog” with “particular post.”
How do you know I’d agree with you if the post were about Paramount starting a “lame youtube channel”? If the post were about that, I probably wouldn’t have responded.
Well, I guess we agree that our opinions are different. I’ll go read everything ELSE on the site now.
Best of luck.
