I think I'm going to look at this much like fans of a popular book critique the movie version of the book. I'm a vintage blues fanatic. I think Mos Def will be fine as Chuck Berry and Adrian Brody will make a better Leonard Chess than Matt Dillon. I'm not too familiar with the work of Columbus Short, Jeffrey Wright and Eamonn Walker, but my initial response would be that they look nothing like Little Walter, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. And Cedric the Entertainer does not make me think of Willie Dixon. Beyonce may be able to sing like Etta James, but she's going to have to pack some weight on to make her role believable. Here's my ideal cast for these roles:

Howlin' Wolf: Bernie Mac. Howlin' Wolf was a colorful character with outrageous facial features. Bernie Mac has those similar features and the gruff personality Wolf was known for.

Willie Dixon: Charles Dutton (of "Roc" fame). Charles is a dead ringer for Dixon. He proved, too, that he can sing blues in the 1994 film "Foreign Student," where he played Howlin' Wolf.

Muddy Waters: I think Cedric might be a better fit in this role. Once again, a colorful character like Muddy would be best captured by a comedic actor

Little Walter: I'd be willing to take a chance with Columbus Short

Maybe if this one takes off, it will spawn a couple other blues-themed biopics. I'm still waiting to see Queen Latifah play the great Bessie Smith.

I don't have a problem with Cedric. He proved he could play it straight in Talk To Me.

Of all the rappers trying to act lately, he is heads and tails above the rest. Seriously, the guy is fantastic in Something The Lord Made with Alan Rickman. He's a great talent. I approve!
