Eric Dane Joins the Cast of ‘Marley and Me’

Another cast member has joined the star studded cast of ‘Marley and Me,’ the film adaptation to the best selling novel. ‘Grey Anatomy’ star, Eric Dane has signed on to play Owen Wilson’s best friend in the movie.

Variety gives us more details:

Wilson plays the ambitious reporter who moves with his wife (Aniston) to Miami for a newspaper job. Dane will play the journo’s best friend, who suggests that the reporter adopt a puppy as a substitute for the children his wife wants to have. Marley morphs from an adorable Lab puppy into an incorrigible handful.

To be honest, I don’t what to think about this movie. I haven’t read the memoirs, but it just seems like most of the actors cast shouldn’t be involved in this movie, because it seems like it’s going to be a ‘Beethoven’ like comedy. I honestly think Jennifer Aniston is capable of being a character who is not Rachel Green, I just would like to see her in more roles that proves that.
I can’t blame Owen Wilson however. It’s going to take a long time before the public “forgets” about his attempted suicide last year, so just to see him go back to work is good news.
T
his sounds like a good move for Eric Dane. It’s a very safe role and is great for an up and coming actor. I haven’t seen him on ‘Grey Anatomy,’ however I watched in him ‘Open Water 2’ (or I should call it ‘Adrift.’) and was surprised to see how good he was in the role.

So what are your thoughts? Are you interested in seeing ‘Marley and Me?’

  1. To tell the truth i’ve read the book Marley and Me and i’m not to pleased with the actors that they chose for the movies. Yes, Eric danes is a good actor and i’m not saying this to be rude but in the book his friend doesn’t suggest the couple to get the dog his wife does. I hope that the movie isn’t going to be far fetched from the book and follow the book some what exact because it’s a really good book and sholdn’t be taken apart from hoolywood.

  2. Wait….. It’s a movie about someone dealing with their pets?.. I’ve grown up around animals all my life and adore my dogs, but I don’t want to read/talk/or watch someone else deal with theirs. Nope, and not Aniston to boot.

I will say one thing, Owen needs to start selecting more interesting roles. Stop being cautious. I forgot or don’t care you attempted suicide. You did. We know. Let’s move on.

  3. I just finished this book and it was great! I am a 39 year old man, who grew up with dogs, this book had me in laughter and tears the entire time. I think both Owen and Jennifer will be able to pull this role off. If you read the book, Jennifer A’s past roles are good for the description of Jennifer G in the book.

I do hope this move stays close to some of the lessons of the book, that as bad as Marley was, he was a great teacher of what is really important in life.

    Good luck with the movie!

  4. This book is a must read for anyone that likes animals-
When I read a movie was being made, I was looking forward with great anticipation-
Now I’m afraid no one will see it, I hope I am wrong and that this movie does Marley and his family proud even with Aniston and Wilson, neither which do anything for me.
My fingers are crossed on this one!!

  5. I saw the name Jennifer Aniston and clocked out right then and there. She’s boring, she can’t act, and just reading about her is enough to put me to sleep. She might as well stop acting. People aren’t interested. It’s not like she’s hurting for money or anything, so why keep trying to do something that isn’t working? Stay home, accept that you’re going to die barren and alone, and plot your revenge against Jolie. At least THAT would be mildly interesting!
