Clooney To Direct Farragut North

George Clooney 01It looks like George Clooney is set to direct a political drama based on the play Farragut North. We get the scoop from out friends at cinematical:

Farragut North, Beau Willimon’s play (and hot Hollywood property) has been attached to Clooney (he’s supposed to direct) since last fall, and it sounds like it might be going forward at last. However, Clooney denied he would be appearing in the film, saying, “I think there are a lot better actors for that than me.” He doesn’t expect to start production until next year, and there’s no word as to whether Leonardo DiCaprio is still attached to star.

This film is set to be a political drama about a young idealist on a presidential campaign. This type of film does not usually excite me, but Clooney did an outstanding job directing Good NIght, and Good Luck, and I look forward to his future projects from the chair.

Cinematical reports that Willimon’s play is scheduled to debut on Broadway this summer, so we can get a sneak peak at the story before it hits the silver screen. We will be sure to keep you posted on the progress of this project, and with luck we will be able to get a first hand report from the play once it has hit the stage.
