Bone Movie

Bone-MovieIt looks like there is a Bone movie on the way. Yes yes yes, I know it sounds like the title for some sort of amateur porn movie, but it’s not. Bone is actually an independent comic book title that The Movie Blog’s own Darren Conley is actually a very big fan on. Warner Bros have picked up the right to the film version.

The good folks over at Coming Soon give us this:

The fantasy series followed three cousins from the Bone family who are small, white and bald humanlike creatures with big noses. The trio are run out of their hometown and find themselves in a mysterious valley where they are separated and hunted by other creatures. They are taken in by a girl named Thorn and her grandmother, and find out that the valley is threatened by an evil force called the Lord of the Locusts.

I’ve got to confess to only reading like 1-2 issues of Bone… to be honest I never understood what some of my other friends saw in it, and it certainly doesn’t strike me as material that would make for a good feature film. Still no word on if it will be animated or live action.

  1. they had BETTER make this movie good and exactly like the books or it will turn out to be like the movie “the never ending story” with HORRIBLE GRAPHICS and WEIRD AND COMPLETELY OUTRAGEOUS VOICES. oh, and it had better be in 2-D or else someones getting fired

  2. 2-D is simply a must. I know Jeff Smith would not put up for some cheap CG.
Also, I really hope they get the voices correctly.
This has the potential of being a great epic, or failing miserably. Being a long time and loyal fan, I for one vote for the first.

  3. i LOVE BONE!!!!i am the #1 FAN!!!
    YAYYY FOR THE MOVIE!!!!
I CANT wait!!!!ive read them all and they would be PERFECT for a group of movies like Hp and twilight!
i hope they get the voices right though….and that they follow the story line!
i HATE it when they take out and add stuff >:(

  4. i dont know of any voice-making-movie people, but bone is great. i always wondered how it would be as a movie. i just hope it will be exacaly like the books. there are only 9 books, it says it on the back. there arent a lot of 2-D movies, Bone will be a great 2-D movie. hope it will be in theaters soon. :-D !

  5. I love Bone because it always reminded me of some the cartoon movies I used to watch when I was a little kid. Movies that I cant remember the name of. It has all these crazy, intense fantasy elements, but it also has these hilarious cartoony bits from the Bone characters. Not to mention Jeff Smith’s simple black and white art is so expressive and original. i love it when comic writers can also drw there stuff.
    Cant wait for the film!

  6. i always pictured fone bone being voiced by a guy named dan green. i dont know why, i just have. it seems to fit him. for phoney bone, it should be gilbert godfreid. and for smily bone, it should be bill farmer.

  7. Bone is my favorite Book of all time, the story starts out really light-hearted, then gets more and more serious and dark, and the story is really great. I hope they get Blue Sky to make this, but have Jeff Smith Write it. I LOVE BONE!

  8. When I heard the news I was ecstatic. I remembered the unifortunate bit of bussiness with Nickelodeon a while back and thought that killed the possibility of a movie. I guess that’s dumb, considering how popular Bone is.

I was actually hoping for a live-action movie because I’m a big fan of make-up and animatronic effects, which would be a must. However, this doesn’t seem likely. My second choice would be 2-d animation, something like from Don Bluth’s Heyday. unfortunately this doesn’t seem too likely either.

If it is going to be animated (computer or traditional) I thought Ron Perlman would be good for the Red Dragon. Tress MacNeille would be really nice for Gran’ma Ben (for anyone who remembers “Hey Arnold!”). I thought of Gilbert Gottfried too, but Phoney should have a voice that can rally a throngs of people to a singular cause…I’m not sure that Gottfried.

Jeff Smith said that he wanted Drew Barrymore for Thorn. Why Not?

  9. After careful consideration of various actors (Ray Liotta, Steve Buscemi, that guy from “Wall Street”) I have decided that Phoney Bone should be played by Gilbert Gottfried, who played Iago in “Alladin” will.i.am would make a good Red Dragon after seeing him in Madagascar 2. I hope the Bone movie is 2d animation

  10. BONE IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I SOOOOOO HAPPY THAT THERE IS A MOVIE. I THINK I’M GOING TO EXPLODE.WHEN IS IS IT COMING OUT TELL ME PLEASE!!!!!!

  11. dude im so excited about this movie i practically grew up with bone. I remember when the chapters were individuall books. This wouold also be an awesome money success, they might have to put number one and 2 together though, cuz theres not alot of material in number one. After one and 2 they could make like 7 more. I imagine the first one would be like harry potter pg, then pg 13.

  12. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so) I hope they make a movie i don’t think it will be very good if its not animated. Casey is ur last name sterly? i wonder if fone bone will get thorn?

  13. I love every bone book there is especially crown of horns me and my friends are bone freaks if they made a10th one that would be awesome .i never had found out about the bone movie until a week ago and i have no clue when its coming out

  14. I also think the Bones should be voiced by child actors. I heard them in the game. Adult voices only work for Smiley who one would normally portray with a deep voice. I actually originally imagined Phoney with a very shrill angry voice like a child’s.

  15. I think 2-D will work best. CG or live action will ruin it all. I think Jeff Smith should draw the characters so the film can be graced with his lovely art. And to the nonbeliever who wrote this article Bone is strictly children’s comedy for the first couple of books but it heats up at three or four and gets pretty grim towards the end.

  16. I think that I just wet my pants. I was gloriously happy when I heard that there was going to be a Bone movie put out by Nickleodeon about 10 years ago, and then when I heard why Jeff Smith pulled out, I was equally happy. So this just made my day.

Since being bought by Scholastic Books, I think the books have appealed to a wider audience, so I could definitely appreciate seeing the movie in either 2-d or cgi. The 2-d would appeal to the hardcore fans, (like me who started with issue #1), while the cgi may appeal to the newer fans of the colorized series. Either way, I will be wetting my pants while waiting in line for tickets.

  17. I really hope that they do it 2-D, and maintain the Jeff Smith style. Bone is a modern classic – the Lord of the Rings of graphic novels. I’d much prefer that they break it up into chapters, but since it’s not a guaranteed commodity yet, I doubt they’d do that.

    1. I don’t think Pixar would if asked. Not mainly because Bone would be to violent, but Pixar has been making only original films (besides sequels of course) for almost 20 years. I don’t think they’d adapt any books into movies.
