Venom Movie

VenomIt looks like the worst part of Spiderman 3 is going to be getting his own standalone film. We get the scoop from our friends at IESB:

Venom fans rejoice, Marvel is moving forward with a new stand alone film, yep you heard right, Venom is coming back to the big screen. We’ve confirmed that “the studio” has met recently with several “A list writers” about a spin-off film.

Eight years ago, New Line Cinema held the theatrical rights to Venom. Since then, the rights have reverted back Marvel. But does Sony have complete control over the character since he was a part of Spidey 3 or does Marvel control the rights to the character with Sony only having distribution rights? We have to assume that since there is movement and there has been recent meetings with writers this property must belong to Marvel since they have made an interim agreement with the WGA and proceed to develop projects during the current strike. Either way, one thing is for certain, Venom will get a second shot at the big screen.

Venom sucked in Spiderman 3, I am not a huge fan of Venom but I know a lot of people that are; and I felt very sorry for them. Venom was a joke, horribly mis-cast, poorly executed and I try my best to forget everything about him in that movie. I sincerely hope that they do not use Spiderman 3 as the platform in which to launch him into his own film.

I do not think anyone on earth wants to see Topher Grace as Venom again; but I would guess that they would have to, unless they throw continuity out the window (and in this case – I would be fine with that). If Venom is going to have his own standalone film, does that mean that they are going to make him a hero, or just have a villain centric super hero film? I do not want to see Venom fighting crime, I want to see him fighting Spiderman and wreaking havoc upon the cities of earth.

I am not thrilled at this news. I am uncertain how they can have this character branch out – when he had such a horrible introduction. It would also be strange if they pretended Spiderman 3 never happened. You need to have Venom and Spiderman tie in together, it’s just the way it has to be. If they tie it in – I will be disappointed, if they don’t – I will be disappointed. This seems like a no win situation to me. What do you guys think?

  1. Unfortunately a Venom reboot is the only way to see Venom done right on the big screen. Let’s face facts, raimi and grace intertpreted the character HORRIBLY. Everything about Venom in Spider-Man 3 was all wrong. It wasn’t just the fact that topher grace was too small, and didn’t look the part, he also acted the part HORRIBLY as well. Even when they put the make-up and crap on topher, he looked nothing like Venom. He wasn’t scary, he wasn’t intimidating, and you could barely see the signature symbols on his chest, and back. Pure and simple, topher grace as venom was the worst intepretation of a comic book character ever. That being said, the makers of this reboot need to just disregard Spider-Man 3, and the idea of re-casting topher. It also needs to be dark. A lot of people say that dark movies are getting old. Bright, and cheery movies got really old a long time ago. I also see how Carnage could be put into this as the villain. It’s pretty sad that they have to keep rebooting frachises to keep them alive, but what the hell, it worked for Batman and The Hulk, hopefully it will work for Venom.

    1. Considering they are already rebooting Spider-Man and Raimi’s run on the franchise is officially over… everything you said is already happening.

If Venom shows up in anything at all, it will be part of the reboot.

  2. I’m a huge venom fan & honestly think that yeah sm3 did nothing for him but come on people vin as eddie? Get serious his face is all wrong & his voice is to deep plus he needs new york accent. I agree eddie should be a beast in his own right & forget about topher & fuck continuity to sm3. That was the end of those movies. He should have his own story with carnage & spidey can make a cameo in the beginning. Now as long as they get top notch writers & a way better director it could be a kick-ass violent dark bloody tale of the anti-hero.

  3. yeah im a venom fan too . i thought that spiderman3 wasnt really good . because i remember in the old cartoons that venom was all strong and stuff but in spider man 3 they made venom look all crappy.i think if they were going to make a venom movie it would be about venom trying to destroy carnage

  4. I am a huge venom fan, I absolutly love the guy and I agree on the spiderman 3 movie being crap. They could of picked a better person than lanky Topher. In the comics Venom hated Spiderman, but in the end they built a truce.

If they made a Venom, I would go see it in a heartbeat. If Topher continued to be Venom, I will be extremely annoyed, but I would grin my teeth and bare it. But hey, Tophers better than ‘Diesel.’

By the way, Instario you are awesome.

  5. I’ve tryed to think about how they would go about giving Venom his own spin off and making it justifiable after the so called Venom in SP3. If I could pick any two people to play Venom and Carnage I would have Brokc Lesnar as “Venom” (Now I know he might be a bad actor who knows, but Brock wasn’t exactly the brightest guy and Brock totally has the build to pull it off. To play Carnage I can think of no one better than Sam Rockwell, he plays Psychotic Perfectly and would kill it.

Well thats my two cents… comment if you would like to discuss it some more.

  6. Hey, I only read the first post and a couple of the comments so pardon me if this is a repeat. But in the comic there are alot more sybiotes (sorry for the spelling) so that could tie in somewhere. Also in the comics eddie brock dies from cancer in 2005. the Ex-scorpian is Venom now, they could use that excuse to get a new role or presuming if the host dies the sybiote moves on the ones before eddie and peter would be intresting to see. I’ll see it regardless, Love Marvel and Love Venmon :).

  7. If they do try 2 do this they might say the bomb that “killed venom” really knocked him off the site and he escaped. You know so youger viewers will understand. No chance for a venom video game because venom died in spidey 3 the game.

  8. talking of the artist i want who would be played as venom?…. i suggest vin deisel because with his body structure and body how he stand just like venom and he knows how to apply his body as stunt in an effect scene… and more people love that guy due to his popularity and other movies that he reigned just like the chronicles of riddick, triple x, and more… im sure so many people will like the movie venom the movie… as vin diesel…

  9. If i were the director i would rather base on the comic book of spider man since the story of the two was covered in marvel comic book… i would be satisfy to watch that and all of most audience… but just a suggestion i would prefer to make more satisfying effects and graphics and more stunting stunts in venom the movie… hoping my suggestion would be heard thnx …. ZUARCH

  10. In the comics venom does escape from a fiery death and fools spiderman but I think that was in the maximum carnage series right after venom gets tired of battling and calls an uneasy truce with spidey and starts the Lethal Protector series. Venom is one of spidermans greatest enemy, if not the greatest, and they screwed up his image royally. If you’re going to use CGI atleast make his bulk bigger and where’s the evil grin with ridicuously large sharp teeth. Yeah he’s got the white venom logo on his chest but where’s the rest. These small details are venom’s trademark for god’s sakes. Thats like superman without the “S”. You know why batman the dark knight did so well? It’s because heath ledger played an awesome joker. Ask any movie goer and they’ll back it up. Villians are just as important as the hero. Joker didn’t get 20mins of showtime. And Sam Raimi thought venom wasn’t important. Venom had so much potential and they did a lame intro for a character that had a major impact in peter parkers life. I understand venom has a very long introduction if you follow the beyonder’s secrect ground wars but atleast do the other intro with the crashing space shuttle. If you know the comics venom whooped spidey’s ass everytime. He has all of spideys abilities and beats him in everything, speed, strength, and always gets the the sneak up on spiderman. In order for spidey to defeat venom he either got help from the fantastic four or tried to out wit venom. The least they could do is bring out a vigilanty movie like the punisher movie and run the story off of the lethal protector series in san fransico. Venom was a pyscho himself always trying to conquer his love and hatred of spiderman. And get rid of topher grace and put somebody like a pumped up Doplh Lundgren with a buzz cut. He’s got the face, height, build, and a bad attitude even in real life which is what eddie brock is all about. Plus I’m sure he won’t be to expensive giving his current movies. But if they want a box office hit then you will have to augment the story with eddie surviving the explosion with severe injuries and then put in jail but unknownly the symbiote is still attached. His cell is next to pyschopathic mass murder named Cletus Kasady. Ask anybody that knows comics and the joker has nothing on carnage, the guy is just straight up saddistic. Eddie feels the symbiote and breaks out but leaves a red resdue behind. The resdue bonds with Kasady to become carnage. And the maximum carnage starts. Maximum Carnage was a hit series when it first came out. Even people that don’t know alot about marvel know the basics like hulk, captain america, x men, iron man. When it comes to villians venom and carnage are one of the baddiest marvel villians there are. Would it hurt the writers and directors to take 10 minutes and read up on the character bios, comic sales, fan sites like marveluniverse.com to bring authenticity to the comic movies instead of buying the current issue on the newstand. Because venom is tied very closely to spiderman there is no doubt spierman will have to make a cameo apperance.

  11. Me personally i think they should do a spin off with just venom alone. after all venom did have his own comic book series. out of all the comic book movies that have been made, spider-man has been the closest to the actual comic book story line. spider – man 3 was pretty good. out of all the characters on spider-man, venom and carnage are among my most favorite. i didn’t like tobey mcguire playing spider-man and i didn’t like topher playing venom. venom is really pretty buff. not a slim slender hostile ex-photographer. they can cover their mistake with casting someone else as venom. the thing about venom is he is a villian, but believe he’s a hero. and like the hulk venom fights a lot of different people. if they do a villain movie i believe they should show how carnage was created. maybe spider-man in the movie, maybe not. all together i’m excited about venom having his own movie. hopefully if they jus do the storyline right it will do jus fine.

  12. Honestly, I didn’t think Topher was a good Venom. Not his fault as an actor, but really… the whole thing fell flat. Especially the suit! I mean, they could have at least made him bigger! Venom is a freakin’ BEAST! Even a buff stunt man could have worn a suit. I mean, c’mon, Venom was smaller than Sandman?!?! WTF?

I really hope for a new director though. Venom got a really sucky intro thanks to a less-than-enthusiastic director. D: Ruined it for a lot of Venom-fans!

  13. Yea Venom sucked in Spidey 3, I was really hurt, and how easily he went down? Come on! Yea and get Topher Grace outta there, we need a bulky, more Eddie Brock looking Venom. Hope Carnage appears!

  14. I think that if they take away the actor that played Venom it would have more of a chance. And/Or they could give Venom a new story arc. I think it could work with the same story and, even actor if they get some top notch writers and a top of the line dierector though. Venom’s enemy should probley be Carnage, and the whole story could be trying to figure out what/how Carnage is there, or something like that. Either way they would have to make Carnage badass [if they chose him for the villain], so badass that Venom wants Carnage dead more than Spider-man, and they would have to give venom some motive for why he’s where he is, for why hes doing what hes doing, ect.

  15. I really didn’t think that Venom was that bad in SM3. I’m his biggest fan and thought that he was the best part. And I think that Topher Grace should return for a spin off. As for the villain, it should be Carnage. But who should play him? I also think that they should bring back Gwen Stacy for the girl.

  16. spiderman is the bomb, but he is not a vigilante we need some dark version of him and venom is it.in the comics i like when him and spidey have it out and of course spidey has to kick ass because he is the man but people like a dark hero who takes shit into his own hands.i would like to see spidey beat him bit i would like to see him learn from his mistakes and whoop spidey once and tell him i can kill you but i have more inmportant issues at hand.i don,t want petty thieves but if i have to i,d be happy making them shit in there pants.i want the big boys and threatining them to swallow there heart will leave them going to church…
charles bronson did it and it worked.

  17. Stick to what the comic is and the next three films of spiderman, and the spin off of venom included would kick the shit out of any DC movie any day. Honestly the new batman movies were good no lie. But when it comes to spider-man and venom …….. No contest! Marvel wins.

I mean lets get real, batman can only go so far. And I think the next batman movie will be the last one that would actually be good.
No one wants to see penguin, or mr. freeze. And the rest are just thugs with guns. Who gives a fuck. I mean really. And after batman what DC comic hero would be good? The flash? He sucks ass. Or maybe the green lantern? No way it would be a total fail, it would be like that lame ass phantom movie back in the 90’s. Just adjust your t.v. to green on the phantom movie, and BAM! there is your green lantern Movie.

But when it comes to spider-man and venom, that shit could just be awesome by itself. Both spider-man and the venom movie could intertwine to the last one with the battle against carnage (Which I think Jim Carey would be the perfect carnage.)

Here is my thoughts, and here me out: Venom should be played by either VIn Diesel, or John cena Period. (Eddie brock could shave his head to be unnoticed by everyone, like he did in the comics.)

Spider-man 3 at the end venom blows up, as well as Eddie Brock.
Why no just make it like Eddie survives, he just gets blown off the building. But the symbiot does get killed.
Eddie then hides away to make spider-man believe he is dead. Eddie then has an even worse rage against spider-man because he was defeated, so Eddie then starts lifting weights to get bigger and stronger, which is a slow process when you are skinny. (Because lets get real here, we can’t just have eddie be big right off the bat since he was skinny in SM3.)
Boom! there is the start of your venom spin off.
Eddie knowing that peter Parker is Spider-man, and not being able to do anything about it just makes him even more furious, because even if he did go to the press they wouldn’t believe him because of how he framed spider-man in SM3. Eddie is now in a lose lose situation. The only advantage he has is that spider-man thinks he is dead, in which spider-man is the only person who knows Eddie is Venom.
Eddie stays away from Parkers personal life because he knows that would not do him any good without the symbiot.
So Eddie trying to get his life together after the symbiot, cant stop having dreams, and thoughts randomly everyday, of that of the Venom symbiot. Till he finally puts the pieces together and finds out where the symbiot is…… The sample that doctor conner took from Peter in SM3.
SO Eddie goes into Dr. Conner’s lab and breaks the container holding the symbiot. He then reunites with the symbiot, becoming VENOM! Once again

So whats his first goal? To kill spider-man. But as soon as he gets attached with the symbiot again, he has people after him, a secret service only known as the suits to the public eye, who only want the symbiot to produce more of it, to create an un-canny army, one that can never be defeated.
Their is your first movie, of Venom. His struggle to survive and stay attached to his host Brock.

Venom 2nd Movie: Venom still struggling, battling, and running from the suits, then gets away by being Eddie Brock and keeping the Symbiot discuised that way the suits cannot find him, since the suits don’t really know who venom really is. So while being Eddie Brock and eliminating the suits one by one in discuise he finds out why they are trying to capture him, through the torture of one of his captives. But although venom finds out why they want him, he was kept in secret of what was being done in capturing him. (But the new spider-man movies should give out little hints such as dark monster vandalizes the city but has yet to be seen again! In the daily bugle. That way it is noticed throughout the spider-man films. But mostly ignored, like a conspiracy.) After Venom finds out what he needs, he tries disposing of his captured secret agent (Aleksei Sytsevich)(Who should be played by Sylvester Stalone) by webbing him down on he subway tracks, which in the end splits Aleksei Sytsevich into two pieces seperating his upper body from his lower body. After this happens to Aleksei Sytsevich the suit find him, and notice he still has a pulse, and is still alive, so they bring him back to their lab which they give the almost dying man a choice to be part of something big, and the chance to still live, and of course Aleksei Sytsevich says yes.
The suits then give Aleksei Sytsevich a cybernetic body which forms him into the RHINO!
Mean while, venom thinks he has won and defeated the suits (Which he doesn’t really because they are a mass secret industrie.) he goes back to the main plan destroying spider-man, but that plan becomes short lived when Rhino confronts Venom and they battle it out! After Venom defeats Rhino the suits then capture Venom with enhanced sound waves (They used the Rhino as a decoy to get to Venom un noticed.)
Which brings us to the end of Venom Movie 2, Eddie is captured and the symbiot is detached from him as well. So while Eddie is imprisoned they take a sample of the venom symbiot and run test to make it better, and stronger than the old symbiot which inturn creates the blood red, CARNAGE Symbiot. A failed and unstable dangerous virus that should have never been made.
Since the experiment was a complete failure the suits discuise the red symbiot in a blood doner bag, that way they can safely dispose of it in secret. End of Venom Movie 2
Spider-man 4: Dr. conners science lab gets thrashed and doesn’t know how or why? (Venom movie 1) Dr. Conner becomes the lizard. Spider-man and him have final battle at the end in which a blood bath van gets destroyed in front of an insane silem and the carnage symbiot gets out and attaches itself to its host Cletus Kasady (Played by Jim Carey). End of spider-man 4

    Spider-Man 5: Ultimate Carnage!!!
Brock somehow gets out, and once again reunites with the Venom symbiot which was kept there as well. And has to join forces with spider-man to defeat carnage! At the end carnage is defeated by a space port by getting burnt to death by the first rocket boosters of a space shuttle (The only way carnage can die was by heat) Eddie doesn’t hate peter anymore, and so the symbiot considers eddie week because the venom symbiot wants to kill spider-man for abandoning it in SM3. So while it detaches from Brock, and try’s to attach itself to Peter again, Spider-man then uses the sudden loud burst of the space shuttles 2nd rocket booster to pull away Brock from the symbiot, and web the symbiot to the shuttle which goes to outer space.
In the end Brock is left with cancer from the symbiot and dies.
And after Eddies funeral Peter is addressed by the S.H.I.E.L.D End of spider-man 5

    Spider-man 6 Ultimate Advengers!

So there you go, both Venom and Spider-man movies would be awesome by itself which inturn could make one hell of a movie at the end, and give Venom its justice back from SM3

  18. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so)Topher Grace is VEMON and if nobody can fell that then they cant feel VENOM!!!

  19. haha, Topher was such a bad choice. Eddie Brock wasn’t some sissy ass scrawny douche, they totally fucked up the series for me with that one. Unless Topher does some serious bulking up for the new Venom movie, I really hope it’s not him. The continuity would be nice though.

  20. for the venom movie wat you do is get a spiderman venom fight in the begining then spiderman uses a sonic boom gun thing to scramble venom off of grace then grace falls in a saw mill or just put him in the nut house then wat you do is get venom to posses the villian scorpian (who should be played by vin diesel or someone along his build) then you hav a movie cause to me the worst part about venom in the spiderman 3 was that he was small and not huge if you wanna keep grace in make the carnage symbiote break in the asylum and posses grace big showdown scorpioin venom wins then merges with both symbiotes and theres a good movie i mean come on simple

  23. This is my theory on how venom might have survived in
spiderman 3. the suit shielded the explosion and after spiderman and mj left the constuction site venom woke up with out a scratch.
he probibly then decided that he was no match for spiderman so he moved to,correct me if i’m wrong, san fransisco. I had a venom lethal protecter comic book where he fights morbius.

  24. Venom wasn’t bad in the 3rd movie, he was brilliant. Venom does have his own comic book series, like Wolverine.I think Topher Grace should be Venom still and this could be a good movie because we get to see worst enemy in another side. Venom is the Anti-Spider-Man and I think you guys are all wrong.

  25. just to toss this one out there venom in the older comics isnt really a villian later on he just really hates spiderman, he actually lived underground in san fransisco and helped people underground so i guess they could set the film there either as a whole different story line which i hope.

  26. Yes I totally agree on the venom vs. carnage plot because it would bring a lot more attention to adiences as its the introduction and reiteration of new villians/heroes. THen again it will be a marvel movie so it probably will sell well. BUt yes, bring CARNAGE!!!! and no wimpy topher grace. Venom is supposed to be huge. Use Harry Connick Jr. as Kassidy… maybe anyway.

  27. You see, the Venom in Spiderman 3 was a bit…disappointing. He should have been huger, eviler, and not take his face off to talk all the time. Venom was known for being relentless, muscular, and a killing machine. The movie however, would have to portray him as the Lethal Enforcer and take on Carnage. They could even have it take place in California where Venom moved to after becoming the Lethal Enforcer. As long as they fix the wrongs, this will be my favorite movie since the Dark Knight.

  28. They could start this movie after the bell tower part of spidey 3, with brock not having the symbiote and being locke in prision with Cletus Kasidy. Then the symbiote re-emerges and frees brock, reforming venom. (and leaving behind a small red and black goo, that starts squirming to Kasidy. the next part of the movie would be Brock, trying to start a new life in San Fransisco. Then he starts seeing reports in the paper (photos by Peter Parker) of carnage killing people and causing general havoc. He then high tails it to NYC thinking he is responsible for what is happening, and starts arguing with the symbiote, who eventually listens to him and they then proceed to fight carnage. The movie can end with a cameo from spider man and the FF4 stopping both Venom and Carnage with the Human Torches fire and a sonic pulse gun made by reed, then the symbiotes would be trapped in sues force field and transported to a scientific holding lab at the baxter building. (leaving a possibility for a part 2, (Maximum Carnage)

  29. There is Scorpion, Spidey’s villain that later turns into the new Venom. This Venom helps the Registration act in the Marvel Civil War. Becides a Venom turned good sort of happens whn he helps Spidey beat Carnage. his is totally doable. Maybe they could also set up a Thunderbolts movie.

  30. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so) hey spiderman3 suck so bad for the luv of god i think having venom vs Carnage would be awsome n havin BROCK LESNER former wwe wrestler as venom ill be hot cuz is big n has a good fisic , about actin im not sure but i think with some acting lesson he can put it off

  32. Kick ouy Topher Grace, Bring in like Vin Diesel or sum1 more like the comic book. Carnage Should be the villan… not that venom is a good guy, but they could make a story of how the symbiot is taking over him, and his life! I dono… IM not a writer! But i love venom!! Topher Grace would make a better carnage! Oh and i hope its doesnt disapoint like Alien V Predator One & two! Good script and actors pls… No straight to dvd movie!!! Im excited!

  33. Hey Brandon,

CLEARLY venom was the creation of Raimi in SM3, not the concept of marvel.. Only the belltower made sence of it all.

    To all,
Marvel should stricktly stick to it’s comics reference for movie production, so if they make another movie, Like venom, Have the crashing shuttle:)

  34. I dont understand why people hate the whole Venom/Eddie Brock portrayal. I mean sure, I hated how they didnt use him much and that they kept pulling back his face to reveal Topher Graces’ face, but that doesnt mean they did a horrible job. I would be interested in seeing a spin-off out of curiosity on how creative they could actually make the story. I really dont see them making a spin-off that will absolutely be horrible. Especially since, in my own opinion, that was the only thing bad about Spiderman 3. I do, however, understand that people did want to see Venom the way the remember from the comics, so I dont want to seem like i am totally bashing everyone about that.

  35. For all the people that think Topher Grace was too small and that he didnt have the muscular features…
This isn’t the first, nor will it be the last Marvel movie that cast someone that is much smaller than their comic counterpart. Wolverine, Magneto, Beast, et al. The only way to make them live up to the comic supersizing is to use CGI which would completely kill the feel of the movie. If a power requires it, sure, but if the sole reason to use CGI is to make the actor look more muscular, leave it alone.
All the nay-sayers who think Venom cannot do well without Spidey, please give me a break. As others have mentioned, a Venom vs Carnage would do well even if the entire movie is based off of that premise. Remember, they have to introduce Carnage which will most likely take half the movie if past movies are any sign.

  36. ok… u people have no idea what ur talking about… and u dont know anything about the different betwin the movie world and the comic world
this movie will sell because it is a marvle film… the end
marvle could make a moive about a super hero that no one has ever heard off and it would sell because marvle did it

    so shut the fuck up

  37. ok… u people have no idea what ur talking about… and u dont know anything about the different betwin the movie world and the comic world

marvle could make a moive about a super hero that no one has ever heard off and it would sell because marvle did it

    so shut the hell up

  38. If there’s any hope in a stand-alone Venom film…everyone must forget about Spider-Man 3 and how poorly Venom was portrayed in that pathetic excuse of a movie…I mean…one of the greatest villains in the Spider-Man universe…gets like 5 minutes in the movie…and I didn’t pay money to see Toby McGuire’s ridiculous song/dance number!!! Freakin’ lame…so…as long as Spider-Man 3 isn’t used as a platform…script writing is a bit better…Grace doesn’t play the role of Eddie Brock (unless he plans on taking steroids or something)…and the movie’s rated ‘R’ (I wanna see some blood)…it may have a chance…

  39. I’m Excited about the idea of a Venom movie, even though Spider-Man 3 sucked balls! The best way to go aobut thsi movie is to forget about S3. Maybe int he beggining have recaps from the comics instead of the crap movie. Topher said he wouldn’t play Venom again because he doesn’t want to be in a disappointing movie. too late for that. True this movie wouldn’t be as good as a spider man venom movie written correctly. its possible though it could be entertaining if done correctly. If they make Venom like S3 im gonna be pissed, talking as one person, showing more of Topher than Venom, skinny, no tongue, piece of crap!

  40. Grace didn’t destroy the role, the writers did. To have Brock as a side story and end w/ him getting infected in the church could have led to him being the main villain in the 4th installment, and carnage in the 5th. Botched writing! He never had the chance to redeem himself!! and a spin-off at this point only serves to remind me of that horrific Elektra picture…

  41. Venom is class and i think it would be class 2 c him in his own movie.
and i thought Topher was a good Eddie.
the only bad thing about him was the way they made him sort of a suck-up. but once he got the suite he rocked.
i wouldnt want him 2 b a good guy, just a loner who does wat he wants when he wants. And they would have to put him upagenst some really tough aponents. e.g. Carnage

  42. Spider-man is Venom’s arch enemy Obby. Peter rejected the symbiote and destroyed Brock’s journalism career. Of course the symbiote was drinking blood and Brock accused Spider-man of murders he didn’t commit, but why let reality ruin a good delusion.

the main reason Venom doesn’t work in a movie is that his orgin is too long. They replaced the secret war with a meteor coincidentally falling in range of a super hero. Peters months of nightmares and suspicions were replaced with a dance number. Still, Venom took so long to explain that he could only appear in 20 minutes of the film.

Maybe now that his orgin is out of the way they can do a descent Venom movie. suppose Brock was so badly injured in Spider-man 3 that he needs the symbiote to survive. The movie begins from the point of view of a detective investigating Brocks disapearance from the hospital. We don’t want to over expose Venom. Eddie Brock is living on the streets. At one point the detective gives him change, not knowing who Brock is. The detective says something that inspires Eddie to start targeting criminals. Brock sees Cletus Kasady being beaten and rescues him. He naively thinks Kasady is being mugged when Kasady is actually being lyched for his own crimes. Somehow Kasady is infected with the symbiotes spawn. Soon Carnage appears. In the middle of the movie the dynamic is changed when Brock abducts the detective and threatens to eat her spleen if she doesn’t help him find Carnage. The detective realizes that they are both monsters but figures she can uses Eddies delusions of heroism to her advantage. Naturally the movie ends with mega monster fight between Venom and Carnage.

  43. The director of the Spider-Man movies said he doesn’t like Venom at ALL. He hates Carnage and Venom, but since Venom was so popular, he just put him in the film. He didn’t give a shit about Venom a all. hat’s why Venom sucked in the movie. In the series he’s one of the most ruthless villains ever. So, hopefully whoever makes this Venom movie actually likes the character. And actually TAKES THE TIME to make it perfect.

  44. Well lets see here people dont want to see him fight crime yet in the comic he did fight some crime (Carnage hello ppl!!!) if you are goin to put Venom in a movie dont do it toward spiderman its not even his arch enemy! CARNAGE IS HIS ENEMY spiderman just gets in venoms way thats all…Carnage is who he is swarn to go after y do you think spidey and venom joined forces against carnage duh…thats because Carnage is his arch nemisis

  45. Raimi is the one that destroyed Venom. Stop blaming Topher Grace, who played a great role for what he was given.

The “Raimi Venom” was a movie monster, not VENOM as we know him.

If this movie truly retells the Venom story and introduces him in a way that makes sense and Spidey makes an appearance, it would be incredible.

BUT PLEASE BASE IT ON THE MCFARLANE STORYLINE! NOT THE ULTIMATE VERSION WHICH SUCKS DONKEY COCK!

  46. I would think that it would be difficult to focus an entire film on Venom, solely because he’s a villain and tied to close to Spidey, assuming Spider-Man wouldn’t be a major role in the film. In terms of casting I felt Topher was just fine because in some of the Spider-Man comics, like Ultimate Spider-Man, Eddie Brock was a sort of doppleganger of Peter. And yes his mask did retract back to show his face sometimes when talked. So they were true to the comics in that sense. I just disagreed with leaving him until the very end just to get blown up, also I thought they should have made him a bit more bulkier like in the comics. The movie can be done, but not without difficulty.
    (Praying they don’t blow Spider-Man 4)

  47. im looking foward to this really venom movie, because the last one was a hell hole. meaning the spiderman 3.

5 minutes, venom was in the movie spiderman greatest enemy was in it so freaking short…. i better stop before i go on a rant.

  48. damn it venom is my favorite marvel character i;m like the biggest fan and once i herd the news that he was going to get his own movie i was the happiest i had been in awhile because in spider man 3 the fucked up his character i was against Topher grace as venom from the start of the production but now ive herd some of sennse this movie most likely will suck but for the record there are comic stories of him not being involved with spider man but him being an antihero sort of like the punisher so that might be interseting 2 see

  49. I don’t think I could stomach watching the Venom movie if he is to be a hero. Might as well throw the entire mythos of the character right out the window. It was bad enough that Spiderman can shoot webs out of his arms without his web shooters.

A major part of the Spiderman character was the fact that he was a genius which was demonstrated by his ability to build his web shooters.

So now if they ruin Venom as well, you might as well pretend that Marvel universe never existed.

  50. Venom sucks. His character ALWAYS sucked. Todd Mikhdickface sucks, his spiderman stories sucked. Please don’t make this movie. If you like Venom you’re a dumbass.

  51. They wouldn’t be throwing continuity out the window by replacing Topher Grace. In the comics, Eddie Brock is no longer Venom–Mac Gargan (formerly the Scorpion) is now a bad-ass version of Venom. We get a better version of Venom, the geeks like the adherence to continuity….everybody wins!

  52. I think they could pull off a movie about Venum and it could rule, but more than likely it will be butchered like Spidey 3.

If they were to do it, they would have to pretend like the piece of shit garbage Spidey 3 didn’t exist and have a new origin story with a few Spidey cameos.

  53. It wasn’t Topher Grace’s fault for spiderman 3 but think about how much money he’d get for doing that? I thought he was miscast but i dont hate the guy. He atleast got a few million and apparently worked out for a long time for the role. other than the hating fans topher got money and muscles from the money. Win/Win. but if they were to make a venom movie less face more venom. they should’nt have even bothered putting venom in spiderman 3, they could have just introduced him and left him hanging instead of ruining him.

  54. Halle Berry as Venom.

Here’s what they need to do

Step 1: retcon his death in Spidey 3, while we’re at it, retcon Spidey 3.

Step 2: 3 servings of roids a day for Topher, if not, recast.

Step 3: Ah fuck it, I can’t think of a way this might work. I mean, I could picture a whole “Adventures of Venom” (think less upbeat, though), but Venom’s primary motivation is their hate for Spider-Man.

  55. Okay everybody Spiderman 3 sucked ass. Less then 30 mins of Venom in a nearly 3 hr movie is insulting to say the least. The least they could do make a B movie about the character everybody wanted to see in the first place. This is going to be as good Catowman. (I hope I’m wrong.)

  56. Personally, I thought that Venom and Willem Dafoe’s cameo were the ONLY good things about Spider-Man 3. Venom should have been at least 3/4 of that movie’s focus. A movie of his own would be better than the 3 Spider-Man movies combined in my honest opinion.

  57. I really don’t know about this. I wanted to like Spider-Man 3, but as soon as Venom died, it really brought the whole thing down, and there was already enough I had to endure. So, I really don’t know about this. I am looking forward to hear more on today’s podcast.

  58. I would be perfectly fine if they ignored Spidey 3, however, I’m not so sure that they would do that.

It still doesn’t seem so far off to ignore spiderman 3, maybe even an Ang Lee Hulk type of thing where it’s a little deep but not TOO deep so that we don’t see a lot of action. Ang Lee’s Hulk wasn’t necessarily a hero, more a guy with a shitty problem, so the venom could be a guy with an even shittier problem and i think it would work.

  59. I would love to see this film but it would definatley have to take a dark turn venom on his own is an anti-hero if he saved someone he would certainly eat the brain of the villain. I think they could make an awesome dark venom movie.

  60. Venom happens to be my favorite marvel charactor. but they really fucked him up whith the casting and look because the venom i know is fucking big. so i would have been phsyced but since they screwd up i relly couldn’t care.

  61. He was an Anti-Hero in the 90’s comics because even though he hates Spider-Man and would not mind seeing him dead everyone else was innocent to him It still did not mean he was being heroric about it. Who knows either way weather its a good premise or a bad one I would probably see it anyways since I’m a Venom fan:P

  62. Ah, Brandon, but was Venom really killed? If he sampled Sandman he could “pull himself together”, there was a bit of surving goo in Connors lab….

Now before anyone thinks I’m all eager for a Venom Lethal Protector film the answer is a flat out no. I would not mind if there was, I’d hope he fights Carnage if he did. But…NO.

I’d rather prefer that Brock and/or Venom survive (if truly needed) for SpiderMan 4, and simply be on the sidelines, kind of like building up strength, advantage, becoming more deadly and powerful. Waits for Spidey to mess up. Makes his moves. So on.

But if *if* this Venom flick comes to pass, then Spider-Man 3 becomes even more worse than ever before. I didn’t hate the third film. I didn’t really love it either. The problem is this news adds wieght to the notion that Venom should have only been “teased” in Spider-Man 3. As Harry bows out, the new conflict involves Brock and Venom. Venom didn’t have a huge impact and not fully realized (might has well kept the Vulture-or better yet, JUST keep Goblin II and Sandman, the latter who was underused due to Venom’s Warholian 15 minutes of fame) and nearly 80% of the marketing was focused on Venom!

At the end of Spider-Man 2, we were teased with the possibilty of Goblin II. Would it have been such a crime to tease the viewer with a possible Venom at the end of 3?

Spider-Man 3 is now cheapened more than it needs to be. In fact, Doug. I’m going to second you here!

With love to Marvel…so much work at expanding the universe. So much time in redos and retcons. So Venom-in all his white spider emblem and drool glory- shows up in NYC. Fights Carnage….and a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man isn’t going to notice?

What’s next? Sandman pardoned and joins up with Silver Sable and Wild Pack?

  63. I actually didn’t mind Topher Grace in Spidey 3. I thought the introduction of Venom was actually one of the better parts of a piece of shit movie. It’s just a shame that it came about 90 minutes too late.

I just wish Topher Grace would stop calling himself Topher. His is CHRISTOPHER. Fuckin Douchebag.

  64. I’m one of the few readers here that actually liked Spider-Man 3 (granted, its no Batman Begins..but it was enjoyable).

I don’t think this film really needs to be made as Venom was CLEARLY killed at the end of Spider-Man 3. I don’t understand where they’re going with this. However, this is a comic book movie and in comic books, people have been brought back to life on more than one occasion.

  65. Hey, if the studios want to go ahead and make a spinoff film with VENOM, they can go right ahead and do it. However, though I didn’t necessarily mind Topher Grace’s portrayal of VENOM, I think someone who fit’s the role better needs to be casted. GO FOR IT MARVEL!!

  66. Hey Lucky,

You answered your own question really. It’s still over 4 months away. No need to start heavy marketing yet. Give them another month.

If you start marketing too early… like Iron Man, you either have to start showing too much stuff as you get closer to the release date… or you just end up releasing more stuff that looks exactly the same as the previous stuff you’ve already released.

  67. hey guys
wats going on with the hulk promotion ??
Relese date june 13 (4 more months) and no sign of trailer ???
Not even a teaser. if they are saying that its going to be different then the first one then they should star marketing it furiosily
Are they going to mess it up again….!!!!

  68. Well my little brother has always wanted to see Carnage in a movie (the character i mean) so if we have him versus Venom in a spin off film, he’ll certainly see it.

Not me though. The only thing that ever interested me about Venom was his origin, which was screwed up royally in Spider-man 3.

  69. I think they should, as an apology to all Venom fans out there for how ridiculous a job they done in Spiderman 3.

Get rid of Topher Grace, STOP pulling his face back to reveal Eddie Brock and forget Spiderman 3.
