Looks like the Tekken movie is moving forward and has found its lead. Luke Goss will star as Steve Fox, and it looks like the storyline will revolve around him.
Cinematical Reports:
Hellboy II villain, Luke Goss, just announced on his MySpace page that he had signed to star as Steve Fox. The character’s first appearance was in Tekken 4; Fox was a British boxer who was robbed of his memory and was on a search for answers about his past.
Doug just loves this game, and I have to admit that I was always a big fan of the fighting games. However, I wish they would stop trying to make indepth stories out of them. It just tempts Hollywood to create it into a movie.
The only “story” in these fighting games is presented in very short clips while the next level loads implying that you are the best fighter in the world, and you wont be stopped on your mission to stop the badguy, prove you have balls, or take over the world (by winning a MMA tournament?) Why are the heads of International Criminal Organizations holding tournaments in which their diabolical leader is in the running for an asswhooping by the hero?
The only way I can see this as a movie is to leave the tournament part out of it. The only fighter movie to do that right was Mortal Combat and it was still a super cheesefest. Make this an action film revolving around the loose backstory of one of the characters and try to pretend you are not attaching the Tekken name to it to garner some familiarity with the action script you bought and butchered to fit the game genre.
I am going to make a fighting game with the coolest looking badass fighters EVER, and give them NO story. Wait. If it is popular Hollywood will still buy the rights to it and make a movie out of it.

But that sounds like what they did with Street Fighter, and it was a pukefest.

Mortal Kombat actually did use the tournament as a main storyline which was why they were on the island to beat Shang Tsungs ass. They just didn’t do it all in a ring. Street Fighter didn’t use the Tournament style and it sucks nutsack.

ONE great thing about the Tekken setting is that some of the ‘rings’ are amusement parks, shopping malls, in front of department stores, a Hong Kong alleyway, a forest, a Shaolin temple, junkyard etc.
That said, I hope most of the film isn’t a tourney style setting but more of the Kazuya Mishima storyline.

The reason Streetfighter was a pukefest is that they took away from the REAL story of the Streetfighter game which was Ryu trying to prove himself to be the best.
In the first Streetfighter you could only play Ryu (or Ken if you were player 2)
But that story is empty and lacks any meat, so they went with the military type characters and made it a sad version of GIJoe vs MBison’s evil mega corp. It became a VanDamme movie instead of a Streetfighter movie.
MK used the tourney storyline and managed to make it work, but that was rare. Even its follow up couldn’t capture that again.

in fact RYU is just trying to find the essence of the perfect combat.
he doesnt care about loose or win if the fight turns into a great combat.
Even im being a streetfigther maniac,i cannot imagine a good movie comming for a history like that.
TEKKEN instead have a good backbone to turn into a very good actionflick ,the cursed mishima family history and the fight between 3 generations to get to the top.
The TEKKEN tournaments are always a fassade to something else planned by the head of the mishima zaibatsu on the current time.
Hell…who im trying to fool?
Its gonna be a shitfest aniway, unless i hope its turns something fun to watch!

TEKKEN MOVIE BASED ON TEKKEN 2.
The movie is not going to be good if the storyline is cheesy and the film producers have not learn their lesson
same with screenwriters as well.Luke Goss playing Steve Fox in this film is a false rumour.
The film should start from the beginning with Kazuya Mishima as the lead and it should have a fighting tournament and the storyline to follow the game.
If Virtua Fighter becomes a movie it will have all characters from the VF games in one film like Akira,Brad Burns,Vanessa,Lei-Fei,Goh and other fighters.
The producers, screenwriters and the directod of the Tekken movie can get stuffed.
Thank you.

I agree with bruce the story should begin with the mishima family anything else and the movie will end up a total flop.. another street fighter.. and please do not cast vandamme in this movie.

I have a few things to say, one - in times like this i dont think normal people should direct game moives, the makers of the game should be the one to do it cause they wont mess up the story line and they will know what will make it great, most of the time we get cheesy spin offs that dont make any sense at all,,its happen so many time with comic books and game movies i can almost garentee this will flop, i bet the director has no idea about this game,,me iam a grand master, beat everyone in my area blind folded with any one,,god i went to a tournament and placed four with my worst charature just for fun,,and even then i should have still won the guy ran from me the hole time and had more life and timed me out,,how dumb is that,,its called a fighting game for a reason..lol.i played the guy who came first at a local arcade and beat him 9-1 he asked me why i wasnt there i said i was , why didnt you win,,i handycaped my self for a better challange..lol,,so that said,,i owned all the games and know the story line as if it were my own life,,its people like me that undersatnd how the movie should be made,,not some 50year guy that has no idea what hes making a movie about,,,god i just saw that steve fox is the lead character , that all i needed to see,,,ya one of the most insignificant should be the main lead,,,can anyone hear the sarcasem,,,i think i just barfed in my mouth
