John Turturro Dubs Christmas Story

John Turturro HeadshotJohn Turturro is set to do overdub work for the Finnish film Christmas Story. We get the scoop thanks to the professionals at Variety:

John Turturro has joined the voice cast for the English language dub of Finnish hit pic “Christmas Story.” Todd Thaier, who cast the voices for “Arthur and the Invisibles,” is casting the pic, which is about how Santa became Santa.

“Christmas Story” opened in Finland late last year and took $2.6 million, making it the biggest domestic hit of the year. The pic, helmed by Juha Wuolijoki for Snapper Films on a $3.7 million budget, had its international market premiere in Berlin two weeks ago. Sales company Delphis Film sold the pic to 10 countries, including Spain, France, Turkey, Greece, Mexico, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Scandinavia.

I am all for overdubs. Some of my most memorable film experiences have been from watching films that have been overdubbed. With voice overs in our native tongue we are able to enjoy a world of cinema that would otherwise be unknown to us. Subtitles are also an option, and on occasion I prefer them, but good voice acting can do wonders; poor voice acting can make the stuff of legend.

I haven’t had the chance to see this film, but if any of our readership from the lands of Loki the trickster can share their thoughts on this movie – it would be greatly appreciated!

Didn’t know it’d get released over seas.

Oh and, sorry to break the fun but Finland isn’t the land of Loki :) It’s a few miles away from here ;PP
