The Host 2 Will Be A Prequel

Host-2A really fun little monster movie (which I fully enjoyed, but thought it was a little too over-hyped and over-praised by some) which lots of you guys still haven’t seen yet is “The Host“. Yes it’s subtitled (which I still can’t understand why it’s a problem for some people), but it’s also loads of fun. There have been whispers about a possible sequel, and it looks like those whispers have been confirmed. The Host 2 is coming our way… and it’s going to be a prequel.

The good folks over at ComingSoon give us this:

The Host 2 intend on not only stirring up steaming-fresh political controversy…but heightening the mutated threat as well. According to Sci-Fi Japan, a press release from Chungeorahm Film states the next chapter will be a prequel (confirming last month’s suspicions), written by Kang Full, and “multiple monsters” will crop up. Along with the release came a concept sketch by Full depicting a fork lift driver holding one of the creatures at bay (see below).

I’ve become less and less of a fan of prequels over the years. For the most part (there are exceptions) all they do is rehash previously done stuff, or muddle with the continuity of the existing work. It says to me “We want to do another one… but can’t think of any possible way to move forward. So we’ll just move backwards”.

Still, prequel or not, I’ll be looking forward to seeing this.

I really don’t understand how this prequel will work, the people will have forgotten that multiple monster were on the loose by the time The Host takes place.

Though the monster was great, the family dynamic was the best thing about The Host.

  2. Travis says:

I agree. I don’t see how multiple monsters will go unnoticed, or be forgotten. I really hope they don’t make this just a monster movie, because I found the family element really enjoyable as well.

You were 100% right that host was an over-rated movie and over-hyped movie.Thats precisely the only reason why I was not able to enjoy it.Infact I almost ended up hating it because of that and not looking forward to the prequel(iam quite sure it’ll be over-rated n over-hyped).

  4. I didn’t think Host was overhyped or over rated. I enjoyed it a lot. But…..
    But…

I’m sorry. I have to agree on the “prequel”. Not just for the above reasons (although I suppose the South Korean “Government” can cover it up by saying it is a deadly virus and the only survivors would be folks in yellow biohazard suits) but for another, like Travis and Grundy pointed out:

One of the big charms for me on the first film was the dark comedy and the dysfuctional, average “family” escaping/eluding the “Government” while trying to locate the missing young relative and fighting the creature. Yes, the monster was great, and well executed.

But now its all about the monster(s). Or so it would appear.
    Hmmph.

i was so dissapointed by the host.

i don’t even think it was average, and i love monster movies.

    terrible, terrible script and acting.

I hated the first one. The funny thing is I wouldn’t have hated it as much if it hadn’t been hyped to the sky like every other asian export to come to our shores. I don’t understand what makes them so special.

For me The Host was a huge letdown.
The monster effects were not the ‘end-all’ special effects they were meant to be. Some of the plot points were so ridiculous I could barely stomach it. The main character was so stupid I didn’t sympathise with him at all. (The scene were his father defends him against insults, followed moments later by the son handing him an empty shotgun leading to his death – nice ).
The characters were like something out of a bad videogame (the sister who happens to be a world class archer with some confidence issues).
Add to that the usual ‘West are the bad guys’ side to it and you have a recipe for something absurd.

  7. Grundy says:

‘West are the bad guys’, the whole formaldehyde being dump into the river by the U.S. Army, actually did happen. And the U.S. Army was pretty much a non-entity.
