Slammin’ Salmon

Salmon 1This has got to be the story of the day! It looks like Michael Clark Dunkan is set to star as a retired boxer/retaurant owner in an upcoming comedy with the GLORIOUS title of Slammin’ Salmon! We get wind of this masterfully named picture thanks to our friends at the movieweb:

Michael Clarke Duncan has joined the cast of Kevin Heffernan’s upcoming comedy The Slammin’ Salmon. According to Variety, this will be the fifth film the Broken Lizard comedy team has done as a group.

The film follows the adventures of Miami restaurant owner Cleon “Slammin’” Salmon (Duncan), a brutal former heavyweight boxing champion who institutes a competition to see which waiter can earn the most money in one night. The winner will win $10,000, while the loser will endure a beating at the hands of the champ.

I have been laughing to myself since I read the title of the film and I cannot stop. It feels good just to say it. Slammin’ Salmon, Slammin’ Salmon, Slammin’ Salmon. Say it 50 times at midnight in front of a mirror with a candle in your left hand, and a salmon phantasm will appear to you and gargle forth the day you will die!

This is just a fantastic premise for a comedy. Having one of the most imposing actors ever, holding a contest where the loser gets his ass kicked and the winner gets 10 grand is down right awesome! This is a blank check for waiter on waiter backstabbing hi-jinx as they fight for both money and their lives. Not since first place cadillac, second place a set of steak knives, and third place – your fired has such a magnificent sales contest hit the silver screen (see Glengarry Glen Ross).

It looks like this is going to be penned by the Broken Lizard comedy team. I am hit and miss with these guys; but I certainly look forward to this one. This premise seems foolproof to me, filming on the picture has already begun and this has instantly went on my “must see” pegboard.
