Skeet Ulrich Joins the Cast of ‘Armored’

Skeet Ulrich has to be thankful for the show ‘Jericho.’ It is because of this show that his film career has been miraculously resurrected. The ‘Jericho’ star has recently been recruited to star in the ensemble cast thriller, ‘Armored.’

Yahoo!News gives us these details:

Ulrich plays a scruffy member of an armored truck company team who plans to empty a truck of its $10 million. The cast also includes Matt Dillon, Columbus Short, Laurence Fishburne, Jean Reno and Fred Ward. Nimrod Antal (“Vacancy”) is directing the project for Sony Pictures’ low-budget Screen Gems arm.

I’d be a little nervous if I were Skeet Ulrich. The last time he was in a movie involving a truck, he practically killed his acting career. (The piece of god awful sh*t was called ‘Chill Factor’ by the way) However, considering the killer cast, I don’t think Ulrich has too much to worry about. I’m actually quite excited about this news. I have been a fan of Skeet since he appeared in ‘Scream’ and a movie called ‘Touch.’ I was actually looking forward to seeing him hit the big screen again when he was cast in Wes Craven’s atrocious ‘Cursed.’ Although, it turned out the first version of the movie was scrapped (as well as Skeet’s character) due to how bad it was. (How bad could it have been considering the final version?!)

So what do you guys’ think? Do you think Johnny Depp Jr. has a chance of a theatrical comeback?

  1. Skeet continues to grow as an actor, and better writers and films continue to expose that this guy is a tremendous dramatic actor with a great theatrical voice. I will watch everything that he is in. Check out Jericho.

  2. Serena, you get more bees with honey than vinegar. Skeet has a growing fan base now, so, I’m just saying…… look how many people want to post about Skeet. Just for future reference.

    :)

  3. Honestly guys,

You ALL need to relax!!! Some of these comments are going BEYOND just admiring the man, but going on borderline obsession. This is “The MOVIE BLOG” not “The SKEET ULRICH BLOG” please note that before posting another long winded response again. Most of you have made your point.

There is a difference between being a fan and being a FANATIC. Like I said in the mini news story, I’m a fan. You can keep blasting this all you want, I’m not RETRACTING anything, and honestly, this is an OLD story…so not many ppl are reading this anymore.

  4. Why oh Why does no-one take Skeet for himself and have to look at him as a Johnny Depp jr? Skeet has been acting for a long time now,and he has a lot of his own merits, and a defining career of his own.
Not to mention the fact that this article mentions the bad stuff (which i happen to think Chill Factor wasn’t that bad anyway) But the good stuff like Jericho and Miracles don’t even get a mention? He was fantastic in Miracles, and also The Magic of Ordinary days, and Jericho is one of the best tv shows i have seen in a long time, and Skeet is one of the people that make it what it is as far as i’m concerned.
Skeet long ago surpassed Johnny in my eyes, and as long as he is acting,he will continue to have my support. A little respect for a well known, great actor would go a long way instead of setting him up for failure with an article like this.

  5. Skeet is an absolutely marvelous actor. Jericho is by far his best role, but he can also handle comedy, I just loved him in Nobody’s Baby. He is so facially expressive that you can see every emotion on his face, and that is what I really appreciate the most about his acting skills. I am really looking forward to seeing Jericho season 2, because I know he will continue to portray the role of Jake magnificently.

  6. I love Skeet and the work he has done. He was GREAT in Scream and Miracles, actually I love all the work he has done. If you really want to see how great an actor he is, watch JERICHO. This is where he has grown the most as an actor. I wish him nothing but the best in his future! Oh, yeah, i have no problem screaming his name!!!

  7. I actually like Skeet more than I like Depp. PLEASE stop comparing Skeet to Depp and maybe get a newer photo to post. Maybe then people won’t think that you are being critical about Skeet. I also personally like the name Skeet and how it came about. Do you know how it came about? If you did, you wouldn’t make fun of it.
Another thing, Skeet deserves this movie even without JERICHO. He was great in MIRACLES and THE MAGIC OF ORDINARY DAYS.
P.S. THANKS for the coverage. :)

  8. Another forum member here: While I respect your views, the Depp comparisons get old. Skeet has done some wonderful work. Why not focus on how an actor matures in his career choices rather than rehash their lesser successes?

  9. I, too linked from another SU fan site.

I, too find the Depp comparison tiresome and the slam on what appears to be personal opinion about his work, somewhat annoying.

It doesn’t make me dislike you, or your article. It’s just a point of reference that you might like to consider when you write these types or reviews or previews.

I also want to say how nice it is to not have to register in order to comment. And must say, I’m glad to see that not being abused.

And just so you know, not that it’s earth-shattering important, I’d take Skeet any day over Depp.

  10. Okay, sorry, last time posting (#4 for me).

I just wanted to say that I appreciate the fact that this page has a comment box that does NOT require registration. That annoys me on other sites.

    Peace out.

  11. Maybe if you came up with something new besides trashing Chill Factor and the Depp references. It has gotten old because nearly every article written about Skeet seems to contain the references. It’s old news. Why don’t writers & reviewers look at what he has done in the last few years and comment on his amazing acting ability without the comparisons to Depp? To me, there is no comparison. Skeet acts, Depp dresses up in ridiculous costumes.

  12. Thanks for responding, we are quite a passionate bunch – lol. I hope if you are not a fan already, you’ll give the second season of Jericho a look when it premieres on February 12th. Any coverage of Jericho and/or Skeet is always appreciated. Thanks again.

  13. My second time posting..hehe….yeah I was agreeing with Steve the whole time…but I see where you are coming from now….I don’t want you to retract the statement, like everyone else, we are Jericho Rangers and we all stick together…I thought the article was cool….I understand the Johnny Depp Jr. Joke now, and that’s your opinion. like you said Agree to disagree..hehe…have a wonderful day

  14. @ Mikesmom,

Thanks for the link! I was wondering where all this attention was coming from. I wrote this mini article almost 2 weeks ago…lol

For the rest of the Skeet Ulrich LOYAL fans,

Of course you’re all dedicated and loyal…you guys were responsible for bringing a show BACK on the air! That’s freaking incredible! :)
Saying that, there are some of you on this comment section that have to learn that jumping down people’s throats who are fans yet do not worship the ground Skeet walks on is just plain ridiculous. The Johnny Depp Jr reference was a joke…plain and simple.

It’s as if some you want me to retract my statements, and that’s NOT happening. So like I said, I am a fan…but if you didn’t like what I wrote, then let’s just AGREE to disagree, shall we?

  15. This is my second time posting and I know that you are a ‘fan’ but true fans are annoyed with the Johnny Depp reference if only because it doesn’t ring true anymore on any level. He doesn’t look like him, act like him, talk like him etc. It would be like comparing Johnny Depp to Brad Pitt now. No similarities — except that they both are actors and seem like devoted dads.

  16. LOL, It was me who posted it at the jerichorises.com and I can attest to the fact that these are all individual people. I agree with catzr, just faithful and dedicated Skeet fans here. Thank you for the coverage.

  17. In case you could not tell your article link was posted at the Jericho messageboard – what can we say – we are faithful and dedicated fans and sometimes a little over protective – but our messages at to what we like were finally heard.

  18. Wow….

If you guys actually read my article, you would have read that I actually was A FAN of Skeet Ulrich….so guys, I’m not saying he’s not a great actor….I like him a lot..so RELAX! (especially since the lot of you sound like the exact same person :P)

  19. I agree with several of the comments made about Skeet and his wonderful acting abilities. He is a father first and foremost so when he does his movies or tv dramas, they take a back seat to his children. His values and priorities are in perfect order. Wish you could say they same for more actors/actresses in Hollywood huh? I love Skeet Ulrich and his talent and most especially his choices in life. I can’t wait for Jericho Season Two to come out in February!!!

  20. Hey , do we know the word RESPECT? Life is full of changes , ups and downs , and like all of us Skeet Ulrich has been through a lot during his life, we all have our reasons for the choices we make, so.. lets give this guy some respect, dont u think? Besides thanks to all his choices possitive or negative ones, we have this fabulous human being, this loving father, this actor who gives us so much entertainment (by the way thats what movies, books and tv are for), but the best of all is…. People like Skeet Ulrich make us realize that we can fell from the horse once, and again , and again but you always have to get on the horse again , quiting is not allowed, because if u quit u might never have the chance to ride again.

  21. personally if given a choice between Johnny and Skeet then I would definitately take Skeet any day

and he is a fine actor, he makes me care about his characters which is something alot of other actors who are much more well known have never managed to do!

  22. I agree with the majority of the posters — the Johnny Depp references are old and plagarized. At least come up with some new material. I hope you don’t get paid to write this stuff.

I first noticed Skeet Ulrich in Miracles and I believe he is a gifted actor. Unfortunately in Hollywood, the actors that yell and run around chewing the scenery get all the accolades — that isn’t acting, that’s posturing. Skeet emotes a range of emotions with a look, a glance, a shift in his body movements, and he is a true artist.

As for Depp, I think he is over-rated. I do enjoy him in the Pirates movies, but I don’t think he is a great dramatic actor in a ‘real’ drama sans costumes, makeup and quirky character traits. I mean, he is known mostly for Willy Wonka, Jack Sparrow and Ed Scissorhands — not exactly classic cinema. Put him in a meaty role with only dialogue between characters, and he is bland as melba toast.

  23. I think you need to rewatch chill factor, I thought that movie was awesome movie. I really don’t know where you get your facts at, but Skeet is a tremendous actor and has quiet side about him..you don’t see him in Tabloid magazines do you? no you don’t cause he’s a devoted father and does a tremendous job on the show Jericho. I really don’t think that movie Chill Factor was a movie that ruined his career. Now the Johnny Depp comment,I never thought of Skeet Ulrich being a Jr. to anyone he is own person and I think the will always be Skeet Ulrich to me and many of us Jericho Rangers. Please check your facts out before you write articles like this thanks

  24. Obviously someone has not really looked close at Skeet Ulrich’s talent very close. I have all of his movies, some of them are not great but when you look at some of the others you see that Skeet Ulrich can carry off comedy, drama and action. What I look at is his comedic timing, the emotion of his body language & the look in his eyes…I am also a Johnny Depp fan and he has been in some real stinker movies too…I think Skeet is a force to be developing with each project..I love his morals & attitude toward his children…my kind of man!!

  25. Yay, Skeet. There – someone is cheering on a guy named Skeet.

Mr. Ulrich’s acting style is very understated; he doesn’t go for the “big statement.” He emotes his character and thereby makes it “real.” But the viewer has to be invested in the performance to fully appreciate it. Perhaps that’s why you missed it? Too busy looking for the next big flash bang?

I have to say that I am just now getting to know Skeet because Jericho is just awesome. I have been ordering other Ulrich performances from NetFlix and I do enjoy him more and more.

Season 2 of Jericho is just going to blow you away and the producers of “Armored” apparently recognize Skeet’s contribution and made the smart move to get him on board now.

    Go Skeet! (yet another cheer)

  26. Skeet is a tremendous actor. However, first and foremost, he’s a completely dedicated father. I don’t necessarily agree with all of his film choices, but I admire that he does things his way and isn’t influenced by “the Hollywood way.”

He did an outstanding job in Scream, Touch, Into the West, The Magic of Ordinary Days and Miracles. Jericho is out of this world. CBS should be ashamed of themselves for canceling it. I hope it totally blows up this season (no pun intended) and really takes off.

If you’re going to do an article about him, maybe you could do a little research and post a picture taken in the last decade. And the Johnny Depp references have got to go. It’s so 1996.

You go Skeet! I wish you nothing but the best and a very happy birthday (1/20).

  27. Lynn: Very well said! Not only is this photo a decade old….so is the reference to Depp. Time for new material!

I also admire him for choosing family over making blockbusters. He’s handling his career on his own terms, without flaming out like a lot of actors who suffer from overexposure, drug and alcohol problems, and believing in their own hyped-up PR. To me, it seems he does what he does because it’s about the work — not the celebrity surrounding it. Pretty refreshing, given all the dysfunction we see from so-called stars.

Skeet is a fine actor, and there’s a lot of folks who would not mind cheering his name. I wish him the very best!

  29. I, too, liked Chill Factor. A movie doesn’t have to be a classic or makes billions of bucks to be considered entertaining. From what I’ve read, Skeet went to Virginia because his FAMILY was more important to him than a movie career. Quite frankly this makes me admire him all the more.

He has done some really good work since Scream, but that’s all writers, critics, and bloggers seem to care about. What about “Into the West”, “Ride with the Devil”, “As Good as it Gets”, or “The Magic of Ordinary Days”? He’s also done a few real stinkers – but who hasn’t?

Come on folks. Let’s drop the Deppleganger references. There was a resemblence 10+ years ago when they both had long, slicked back hair and goatees. Try posting a photo taken in the past decade. Please?

  30. I got one thing to say about this guy: The dude’s name is SKEET! WHAT THE FUCK?!! Johnny Depp……SKEET! I say again, WHAT THE FUCK! Ain’t nobody gonna be cheerin’ on a dude named SKEET.

  31. Skeet’s actually a tremendous dramatic actor. Unfortunately, he always chose quirky roles instead of the big blockbuster stuff. I heard he turned down Armeggedon to do a smaller film. He also left Hollywood to live on a farm in Virginia for a few years which is career suicide.

I hope this works out, though, it doesn’t sound like an Oscar contender. I hope he isn’t just chosing films that are only made in the LA area to stay near his kids — though it would be admirable if he was. Career-wise, it is a killer.

  32. Hey if ol’ Sly can resurect his acting career, than so can Ulrich.I think Skeets a fine actor and with bankable cast members like Damon.Ulrich really’s got nothing to worry about.

Out of curiousity, why is it that everyone seems to think that “Chill Factor” was such a bad film.It really wasnt that bad, sure it was no classic, but Ill watch it any time its on TV,cause its fairly exiting.
