Kristina, my thoughts exactly about Atonement. Although I still worry it will get the lazy “aint it pretty” vote for Best Picture. No Country and There Will be Blood are challenging and rough. All the old ladies in the Academy like pretty stuff that makes them feel good.

Ruby Dee. The only moment that I wanted to throw something at the TV during the awards last night. Give me a break. I would have been OK with any of the other nominees, but Ruby-flippin-Dee aarrrrggggggghhhhhh. This is absolutely the “I can’t believe the old bat is still alive” award. I just hope it doesn’t carry over to the Oscars. Reward excellence not cheap sentiment. Even as an award for a body of work Ruby Dee isn’t exactly deserving, she’s a serviceable actress, nothing more. I’m rooting for Amy Ryan to take home the gold….

There Will Be Blood is a FANTASTIC film, and I’m so happy that DDL is cleaning up at these award shows. It’l be highway robbery if he loses that Oscar.

Ruby Dee was a “she’s old and about to die” sympathy award. She was good in AG, but Amy Ryan deserved to win. Or Blanchett.

And the best news of the night…this basically solidifies that Atonement is OUT of the best picture race. They’ll get costuming and score(I HATED that score), but other than that, no dice. Praise God!

Daniel Day Lewis’ acceptance speech was stellar. He’s such a great talent. I’ve yet to see “There Will Be Blood” but it’s next on my list.

Watched “No Country” over the weekend, and while I loved the movie, and especially the performances, I was troubled by the ending. I didn’t get it. I know I’m probably just too thick to get it. I’ve read some of the theories on the net and I still don’t get it.

No spoilers, but that kind of killed it for me.
