Netflix Set Top Box

It looks like Netflix is venturing into the On Demand rental business with the help of the appliance overlords at LG. We get the skinny today thanks to the WEBMASTER at Filmjunk:
According to the New York Times, they (NETFLIX) are partnering with LG to produce a set top box that will connect directly to your TV. This would allow them to push the library of 600 or so movies that are currently viewable on-demand from their website to people’s living rooms instead of their home computers. The movies will not initially be available in high-definition, although it is something they are working towards.
I am not an avid TV watcher, but recently I was at a friend’s house and got to experience the glory that is On Demand movie service. You have a catalogue of films that you can choose from using your digital cable box, and they are available at you leisure 24/7. This is insanely convenient and will ensure that we have one more reason not to leave the house.
It is wise for Netflix to get involved in this racquet. Most people prefer to watch movies on their televisions. To offer a service with the convenience of the net and the familiarity of the cable remote is a recipe for success. Whoever offers the best library of films will win the business; 600 rotating films is a good amount and should prove to be successful for Netflix. I am not sure how the pricing structure will work, but I am assuming that for a monthly fee you will have free reign of the library.
If they set this up using an internet connection, you can use this service in conjunction with your cable/satellite service for an insane amount of variety. If cable/sat service is not needed; this may be a great option for people like myself that just want to watch movies. All the On Demand rentals you can handle for a reasonable price would certainly peak my interest.

I have netflix now, and have access to all 600 movies streamed to my PC, I think with the settop they are making it available w/out a PC, I rent 6 netflix at a time, and also get 16 hours a month of streaming movies. I am thinking you will rent the settop extra or have to buy it outright. Its a good plan.
I also use the Netflix service. I get five at a time and recieve several hours of Watch Now time. I use it a lot, but I believe there are 6,000 movies to stream.
Arc, I found the rest of the movies on the left of the browse section of the Netflix page. The link is called ‘title’ and every movie that has ever been on Watch Now is there…I don’t have cable tv anymore, I think it’s been two years now. I find useing my PC for everything, music/dvd/tv, it’s perfect and convenient.
I think the set top box is a good idea, but they need to work on the selection of movies. Some are okay, but many are old and B-rated at best. The worst part — some of the TV series are not all there to watch, for instance Quantum Leap season one… You can not watch episode one or two, the pilots. How convenient… The viewing quality is also very good. Many other sites should use whatever player they use to stream because it is by far the best beside Apple.
I have on demand and it is awesome, I hardly ever watch regularly scheduled TV. I pick which movie, show, news, or sports I want to watch. If Netflix comes to on demand that will make it ever better, as long as it is a reasonable price.
