    Hey,

Long time listener. I liked it on video. It actually grabbed my attention more. Keep doing the video aspect as well.

    Good job

  2. Thanks for the show guys.

I hope you do a video review of ‘Sunshine’ on the site. I’d really love to see more DVD reviews of films that might have slipped under our radar, both old and new. Maybe you could add a video feature to your regular ‘films that deserved better’ posts.

Great Job on Uncut once again. I still can’t believe that the “Official” reasons for the stopping of Justice League is actually, Scipt Pacing and Tax Incentives in Australia where they plan on filming it. That’s crap. Because they are not going to get as much money off they stop it? Well, once again, keep up the great work guys. The video option is very nice to have as well.

  4. DON

    Great uncut.

I agree that cloverfield gets very boring on 2nd viewing but so does transformers after 3rd or 4th viewing. The problem with these movies are that they have a lot of flaws and the scripts are written by the guys who wrote transformers and they are really bad.

Expect star trek script to be with tons of flaws and dialogue problems.

Sunshine is one of the best of 07 for me, so i cant wait to hear what you guys have to say about it

I love you guys on video, it makes it feel more personal.

  7. Jason Angel

dude, i cant watch ur videos. all that comes up on my computer is like 1/6 of the screen on the player??? im really bummed!

  8. Hey John, when you interview Alba, can you tell her to eat something? In that footage you showed of The Eye, she looks scrawny as hell.

But then again, she’s eating for two now, so that shouldn’t be a problem anymore.

    Hi John, hi Doug,

Sunshine easily is one of the best (maybe the best) Sci-Fi-movie I have seen in the last five to ten years. In Germany we had Sunshine in cinemas last april.

It’s a really great movie. But it had a horrible marketing campaign. I believe the reason is ambition of the movie. It’s not a simple, straight-line Sci-Fi-movie with some heroes trying to save the world. At the beginning the focus is on realism. The problems of a journey to the sun, the mission, the technology, the crew and so on. But at the end (after some great story-twists) Boyle combines physics and meta-physics and the movie feels like a thriller. Of course that’ not new, but it’s really, really well done.

And it’s an shame, that you can’t watch the movie on the large screen. Sunshine is a movie you have to watch in cinema. There are some amazing, breathtaking shots. But give it a chance. You won’t regret.

    Cheers,
    Juergen

    Addition:

Video works fine on iPhone. Good job.

  11. @Juergen

So basically, Sunshine got Stardusted? That’s what I’m gonna say every time a good movie gets dicked over by an awful marketing campaign. That shit got Stardusted.

  12. krazie835

I wouldn’t mind getting Sunshined by Cillian Murphy. O_o

  13. Terry Letourneau

Rented Sunshine the other night. It wasn’t bad, but to me it was a little too similar to Event Horizon. Looking forward to ‘Bath: The Motion Picture’ though. Hopefully ‘Shower’ is the sequel.

  14. Jason Angel

ok, well, after clicking refresh 10000 times, i finally got 2 c it
but wen i tried 2 download it, it just gave me the audio version. no video :(

  15. Hey John,

The Justice League movie should do something similar to what the Halo movie will probably do. Go away for a couple of years, think things over and come back with a completely new direction and a new director. Then this mess of a film could actually be quite good.

I live in the UK and Sunshine came out over here in April last year. Billed as a big sci-fi blockbuster the film is actually a beautiful, emotional character study with some great action in it. I reccomend that all Americans go and see this movie because it is a travesty that it has slipped under the radar for you as it is a brilliant movie. Cheers.

Great show and the video is definitely welcomed. I just had one disagreement with you guys. I think you guys are contradicting your selfs a little because I remember a post before cloverfield came out where you listed reasons why not to be too excited or something like that. In that post you mentioned that no one really knew the plot of the movie and what it was about. Yet now you say that it was advertised as a monster movie and you ended up getting a love story. Well if we didn’t really know what it was about how can you be disappointed when the plot ends up being a love story. I think that we definitely didn’t know what it was really about exactly. We definitely knew there was a monster involved and that drew you in but you were right at first by saying it we didn’t really know what it was about. Other than that great show and I do agree with what you said about cloverfield the second time around.

  17. Hey moviebuff,

    You said:

“you mentioned that no one really knew the plot of the movie and what it was about. Yet now you say that it was advertised as a monster movie”

There’s a difference between knowing what a movie is ABOUT and what GENRE the movie is. You can know a movie is an “action” movie, but still have no idea what the plot is or what the story is about.

We knew (or at least we THOUGHT we knew) Cloverfield was going to be a monster movie. But that’s just the genre, it doesn’t actually tell us what the movie is about.

    Cheers

  18. moviebuff

Yeah I guess you are right. I guess I was just a little confused about your posts but now that you put it like that it makes a lot more sense. Thanks for replying I really appreciate it. Keep up the good work.

  19. Looks like CLoverfield has escaped Snakes on a plane syndrome and broken box office records… Geeks and internet marketing rules over all

    Didnt see that one coming

  20. bassturd

How bout a DVD review of Sunshine (if not one else mentioned it). It is such a good film that should be seen. Well…unless you guys don’t like it and give it a bad review. Then don’t bother :p

  21. ..so does Transformers after 3rd or 4th viewing

Hold on to your seats for a shocker- I’m the exact opposite. The lame gags are still the lame gags, but now I have to finally concede that the FX were indeed the best of last year. I just felt…more impressed. Maybe I didn’t “catch” everything, maybe I was overwhelmed, but I actually enjoyed it more the second time around.

Like Daredevil…not the director’s cut, but the studio cut. Hated it the first time I saw it, warmed up to it after repeated viewings. I know, I don’t mean to blaspheme in here, mentiong Transformers and Daredevil in the same paragraph. My point is…just as it is for some people that second or third viewings are a form of algolagnia…and a sense of brilliant entertainment for others.

    *******

I like the video, guys. and Gio should always toast with the cola…but I kind of miss the old round tables. Could Darren Connelly come up on a webcam edited in somewhere? Bruxy on the phone?

And Sharon is in LA and she’s not there!

Looking forward to the Gio interview with Jessica Alba. I wish her well on her upcoming marriage and motherhood.

  22. Saw Cloverfield this afternoon, and my first thought also was ‘aw its a love story’. I was entertained though. Felt the unknown were needed to push and carry the movie. Yes some the dialogue was hooky, but like it not, that how most of that age demographic speaks. Thats how most of those parties are. But I do feel the audience grew to care for the six ensemble cast, especially the characters of marlene and hud. At least that’s how the peeps I went to the movie thought.

Do I feel it was mismarketed? Nope. It worked but filling the theaters on opening weekend.

    Here was my friends quote.

“Where Titanic was a love story with a ship; Cloverfield was a love story with a monster. But at least with Titanic, we saw alot more of that ship”

I do also reccomend seeing it in the theaters once. But unlike Titanic, I won’t be going again.

  23. Mozzerino

    Hey Doug,
compliments man, your humor normally isn’t my cup of tea but that joke had my laugh hard and long:
John: “I bet if we had the chance to cast Jessica Alba in a movie, we would.”
Doug: “Yeah. The movie is called “Bath”. It’s 90 minutes long.”
    Good one, mate!

  24. doug nagy

You are welcome mozz, glad I was finally able to bring you aboard the laughter bus!
