Michael Clayton Re-Release

Michaelclayton PosterMichael Clayton is about to return to the big screen for a second outing. We get the following announcement thanks to our friends at comingsoon:

Warner Bros. Pictures is planning a theatrical re-release of Tony Gilroy’s drama Michael Clayton, starring George Clooney in the title role. The film will return to theaters on January 25 in approximately 1,000 locations in North America. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution.

Michael Clayton had been getting a lot of awards attention and this is the best advertising that you could hope for. People will usually rent films that have been nominated when they didn’t get the chance to see them at the theatre. I think it is great that they have decided to re-launch the film on 1000 screens, it gives people who prefer to see film on the big screen the opportunity and in turn; the studio gets more money.

I missed Michael Clayton the first time around, so this is perfect for me. Legal dramas are not usually my cup of tea, but I like Clooney and will certainly try to check this out. I champion the re-release and wish it happened more often (for classic films in particular). With so many shitty remakes, I shake my head sometimes and wonder why they don’t relaunch some classics on us now and again. Some cool independent theaters have classic movie nights, and if your town is lucky enough to have one, I hope you know how lucky you are.

My hometown has a kickass indy theater that DOES NOT ADMIT CHILDREN UNDER TEN YEARS OLD. You heard me, no crying babies, no kids running up and down the aisles. I’ve been to that theater several times, and I have yet to see a child in there. Good times.

And I have not seen Michael Clayton. Looked boring as all hell and Clooney doesn’t really float my boat, but I’m trying to see as many Oscar-buzz films as possible before the Oscar ceremony/press conference, so I’ll bite the bullet and give this a try.

Seriously. Give this film a try. It was the best thing I saw last year. I think the problem was that no one really knew what it was about, but it’s one of those films that will suck you in.
