Coverfield Monster Cloned By Hasbro

Cloverfield-Monster-PictureIt looks like Hasbro is going to be releasing a Cloverfield Monster toy! We get the scoop from our friends at movieweb:

Hasbro has announced it will be releasing a Cloverfield monster figure that will be a “highly detailed representation of the beast,” according to the Hasbro press release.

The figure will stand 14 inches tall and will come with two interchangable heads – one depicting a calm face and the other an agitated face – and it even comes with the head of the Statue of Liberty as well. You can pre-order the toy now from HasbroToyShop.com, but don’t expect to get it soon, or for it to be cheap. While the pre-order starts today, the Toy Shop site states that the item won’t ship until September 30, and that the price tag is a lofty $99.99.

Why do we need a calm face? Did we even see the monster calm in the film for one second? Will the calm face come with a Hawaiian shirt, umbrella drink and sunglasses? These are must have accessories for the Cloverfield calm face monster! I hope they release add on equipment packs like you used to be able to get for G.I. Joe figures. That would get me to but this toy.

One hundred smackeroos is a lot of coin for sweatshop plastic. I am all for reproductions of movie monsters and think it is cool that Hasbro is making the Cloverfield monster available; but that price relentlessly milks the man-tits of fanboys across the globe. For that kind of money at least give us a 2 foot supertoy!

Having the head of Liberty is a nice touch, that alone is worth 20 bones.

International friends, will any of you purchase this toy?

  1. To release a toy in September at 99.99 about a movie that will have been forgotten before the second week in February (certainly after the Oscars) is poor marketing strategy. Are they waiting on the DVD release? I would be surprised if this wont be released on DVD come April or June.
