2008 Oscar Poster

Oscar Poster2008The poster for this year’s 2008 oscars has been crafted by the father and son team of Drew and Christian Struzan. We get the scoop thanks to the professionals at Variety:

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the official Oscar poster designed by “Star Wars” key art maven Drew Struzan and his son, Christian Struzan. “Drew and Christian have captured the allure and excitement that surround both the Oscar itself and the ceremony at which they are presented,” said AMPAS prexy Sid Ganis. Acad plans to distribute 50,000 of the posters worldwide to tubthump the Feb. 24 Academy Awards ceremony.

I wish we had a bigger version to show you. Sadly the picture at the top left of this post is all we have to discuss at this moment. From what I can see – It looks good, I am a fan of Drew Struzan’s Star Wars posters and think it was wise for the Oscars to hire such a legendary master smith to do the work. A classic movie poster has great appeal, I much prefer old school painted posters to the new photoshopped norm.

The coolest poster in recent memory was the Boris Vallejo Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Movie Film For Theatres piece. I give huge props to anyone that gets Boris to do their work. Next year it is my hope that the Oscars will commission Boris.

Pretty, but it won’t matter if the show gets shut down.

well, hopefully it won’t be like at the golden globes. the poster looks awesome.. but if the show has no glamour it’s useless… :( come on, lets make the oscars really big again.
