John Singleton May Direct A-Team

John SingletonWe have progress on the A-Team Movie! It looks like Singleton has been tapped for the Directors chair and we get this news from IESB via the moviehole:

According to IESB, John Singleton (“2 Fast 2 Furious”, “Boyz N’The Hood”) is the shingle’s first choice for director. Singleton, of course, burst onto the scene in the early 90s with his urban indy smash “Boyz N’ The Hood” (1991) before being seduced by greenbacks, girlies and great seats at the Viper Room into joining the dark side. Since under the system’s rule, he’s directed popcorn fare like “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Four Brothers””. He’s also been attached to a film version of Marvel’s “Luke Cage” for a few years.

This new “A-Team” movie will centre around a group of Gulf War veterans – as opposed to ‘Vietnam War’ vets – on the run serving as soldiers of fortune.

I usually want to avoid remakes of television shows. This is an exception to the rule. The A-Team was a kick ass action show that was a favorite of mine as a youngster. I think it has potential to be a fantastic film adaptation and hope the best for it.

If I were to cast the four today I would so as follows:

Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck – Brad Pitt
Col. John “Hannibal” Smith – George Clooney
Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock – Jim Carey
Bosco B.A.(Bad Attitude) Baracus – Mr. T

No one can follow Mr. T, fucking no one. The man never ages, he is immortal, and if I could demand him a spot in the film – I would. To see him act beside a rat pack of A-Listers would be a delightful delight, and one we all deserve. With so much wrong in the world today I ask for just one thing; more Mr. T. Never have we needed his guidance more, and no role has so captured the essence of T better than B.A. Baracus. My open plea to the studios be; if you have hearts, cast Mr. T.

Boys N The Hood was a great movie, and I want Singleton to have another high calibre hit in The A-Team. We have amazing characters that are on the run, and packing guns! There is no reason for this film to be anything short of legendary. Make it so!

  1. I’ve just read a short interview with Mr. T in the German magazine “Stern” (star). Asked about the plans for an A-Tam movie and whether he is involved, Mr. T said:

“They only offered me a guest role which I turned down. I told the produder: ‘Are you kidding me? Either I play BA Baracus or no one!’ I’m the original, there is no other Baracus.”

    So much for that, folks.

  2. no way doug, mr.T in the A-team remake…. as a camio appearance yes, but i do believe that Michael Clarke Duncan would be the perfect fit. Even though it may or may not happen, it would be kick ass to see Mr. T in the remake. :)

  3. I know I’m going to be unpopular for this, but….

Mr. T is too old for a Gulf War vet movie. Sure, he’s one bad mofo, but he’s over fifty at this point. They should go with someone a tad younger – like Ice Cube. Replace Pitt with Mark Wahlberg, and Carrey with Spike Jonze, and you’d have a built in pseudo-sequel to Three Kings. And if you think about it, that just might work.

  4. I would have to say you are correct sir… Although I could see Bruce Willis as Hannibal…

A Team would be awesome as long as they don’t try to “comedy” it up…

  5. I’d correct you on one thing Doug. As much as Clooney has the charm i’d think a better Hannibal should be the original doc himself… Sir Anthony Hopkins.

If anyone could pull off elder general tactician like Peppard i think it’d be him. Plus if we use Mr. T it helps maintain the actor age bracket.

  6. Doug,

The words you have spoken are both wise and true. I propose a freedom fighting duo of Mr. T and Chuck Norris. What country would mess with us knowing they’d have to answer to those two?

Osama who? Oh, you mean that guy Mr. T and Chuck Norris destroyed 3 days after 9/11.

What is world hunger? I don’t know. Mr T and Chuck Norris gave that a round house kick to the tea bag years ago.

    One can always dream…

  7. Even though the tv show was campy, I hope they make this a serious action movie and not go the ‘Starsky and Hutch’ route. And YES Doug, no one can replace Mr. T.
