The Happening Poster

By John - December 7, 2007 - 13:46 America/Montreal

We’ve sensed it. We’ve seen the signs. Now it’s Happening! Great tags on a pretty solid poster. M. Night Shyamalan returns after the vomit inducingly terrible “Lady In The Water”. “The Happening” has to potential to be a return to form for Shyamalan who has had 2 bad films in a row (Water and The Village). The synopsis for “The Happening” reads like this:

A paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity.

Doesn’t give too much away… but that’s good thing. The concept and the poster totally have my attention. Shyamalan also has a pretty solid cast attached with Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel (I think I’m a little bit in love with her) and John Leguizamo. The film is set to come out June 2008. The poster comes courtesy of the good folks over at ComingSoon.

    Looks like Galactus is back;)

  2. Wait there fighting Global Warming or something?

  3. Mark says:

You may not be far off, frankwolftown. The rumor is that the apocalyptic event involves toxins released from plant life on the planet. Night hasn’t hit a homerun (or even a double in my opinion) since his first film. I have zero expectations for this one, but I hope I’m wrong.

  4. jordan says:

this looks good i am relly hoping m night can bring himself back the village was ok and lady in the water i turned off so iam relly hope this will bring him back

  5. Kristina says:

If this thing isn’t a hit, will we be calling time of death on Shamhammer’s career? His last few flicks were critical and financial flops. He comes across as such a giant douche, but I still love Unbreakable, so I’m willing to give this a shot.

  6. Mozzerino says:

UNBREAKABLE is an awesome movie, in my opinion the best movie about superheroes next to BATMAN BEGINS.
Shyamalamadingdong seems to be a really self-indulcent douce though and THE VILLAGE was very, very underwhelming (I haven’t seen LADY IN THE WATER).
I don’t know, the poster does nothing for me and the tagline is beyond horrible. We sensed it? We seen the signs? Come on, that sounds like something out of SCARY MOVIE.
But then again Zooey Deschanel is in it and I want her to be the mother of some of my children. So maybe there’s hope for this film after all.

    Yawn!

  8. Pablo says:

Is it just me or did anyone else like The Village? I thought it was a pretty good movie.

  9. Dutch says:

Scrolling to the poster first, immediately I thought, The Rapture. You know the biblical one, made me think of those bumper stickers “In case of Rapture this car will be unmanned.” Just saying is all.

  10. Terry Letourneau says:

Cool poster…BUT if M. Night Shyamalan is IN this movie, I will rip off both his arms and beat him to a bloody pulp with them.

  11. Terry Letourneau says:

But when I think of it, the poster just looks like people just can’t afford gas anymore.

  12. Henrik says:

Fuck all this shit. Marketing has ruined Shyamalans last two movies (both being marketed as ‘Signs 2′) and now they’re going for references to his two most succesfull movies? FUCK these advertising assholes for ruining another movie. Unless the man has (which I hope and believe he has not) caved in and went back to another 6th sense genre film to make some money again, this poster is completely misleading. Not to mention stupid, ugly and terribly set up.

Fuck these advertising people. Why can you not fucking try to fucking not advertise something as “its like this!!! if u ddnt lik dat its lik this!!! and this!!!” and try and give a movie the benefit of the doubt?

  13. Alex says:

Shyamalan’s ego seems to get in the way of his last few films. Let’s hope the unwatchable “Lady in Water” brought him back down to planet earth. Looks good. I’m curious, but I agree with Terry, if Shyamalan is in this then I’m out!

  14. UKAndy616 says:

The poster looks like an ad for ‘Jericho’.

  15. AjaxLou says:

Don’t understand the MNS hate. Enjoyed everyone of his flicks.

  16. borloff says:

Hey Pablo, i liked the village. ALthough, the ending came as, absolutely, no suprise.

  17. Pablo says:

I didn’t see it coming, but I do think the order could’ve changed a bit. Like when we find out about the truth about the monster. That could’ve been at the end when we find out the whole story.

  18. tr0n says:

I’m not a huge MNS fan at all but the hatin he gets for lady in the water is a tad harsh IMO. It was a fairy tale he made up with his kids and then decided to make in to a movie which I think is the coolest thing a dad could do. Granted it wasn’t a brilliant film and he’ll forever have all his movies compared to the 6th sense but i was a decent flick and Paul Giamatti is freakin awesome.

  19. AjaxLou says:

@18 re Giamatti was freakin’ awesome!

  20. Jay says:

My good ‘Sixth Sense’ tells me about some great ‘Unbreakable’ experience with the foreboding ‘Signs’ of some bad thing happening in ‘The Village’ that the ‘Lady in the Water’ is dead shit AND it is still ‘Happening’.

  21. musicmarke says:

I love The Village. One of a kind. Didn’t watch Lady In The Water though.

  22. JC. says:

“We’ve sensed it. We’ve seen the signs. Now it’s Happening”.

    could that get any better?

  24. Sweet Nightmare says:

What? Am I possibly the only one that liked Lady in the Water? I guess I’m just a fairy tales kinda girl…

Anyways, The Happening was great! Guys, you’ll live with M. Night’s tiny role in the film; he plays someone that doesn’t even get screentime. You just hear his voice on a cellphone, that’s it. I had to wait through the credits to see who he played.

Anyways, excellent movie by M. Night. ^-^ He’s still got my approval as a director!
