Hey Steven,

Yup... that's why I said in the review:

"Most critics didn’t like this movie… but once in a while all of us have opinions that break away from the mainstream and I have to do that here. I LOVE THE AMATEURS!"

Cheers.

hey John, I agree that this movie sounds great, and I really want to see it after reading your review. But, I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes and it only has a 14% right now, you must really be in the minority with this one.

Hey Alfie,

No, I didn't see any heart in Superbad at all. The IDEA and THEME of best friends looking at having to go separate ways is a great one with a lot of POTENTIAL for heart... but the movie never gave any. It never made me FEEL for their situation... it only made me aware of it.

The movie was indeed funny as hell, and I enjoyed it... but heart? No.

i know we see things very differently but are you seriously telling me you couldn't the heart in superbad?

the main crux of the story was these two best friends who had always been with each other and were about to go their seperate ways for the first time and lets face it drift apart.

i am not explaining myself very well but the film was full of heart. more heart than the phoney heart that people were tricked into seeing inside the incredibly overrated knocked up.

I can only assume our experiences in life were very different growing up because superbad is in my mind up there with stand by me in nailing the beauty of friends when you are young.
it nailed the bond you have with your best friends at high school who at the time you could not imagine life without but as years go by you wind up drifting apart and not having as much to do with each other. these two guys were goign to drift apart and the film was their last night together.

that last shot on the elevator when seth look back as his friend disappears out of view is incredibly touching. and works so completely i cannot believe you didn't see it.
was it full with crass humour and outlandish over the top scenarios ..yes but if you couldn't see the heart beating there that made it transcend just being another teen gross out comedies then I think you need to see the film again because there was a hell of a lot more going on in superbad than period jokes and talking about pussy.

i agree with you about the amateurs though. i thought it was great and can't understand why it it so many bad reviews.it definitely could have been better but for what it was I thought it was great.
