Movie Blog Uncut – Top 10 Stories of 2007 Edition

Hey there folks. HAPPY NEW YEAR! (ok, we’re still a few hours away from that, but it felt like a good time to say it)

One last podcast for 2007. Doug and I decided that we wanted to each do a Top 10 Stories From 2007 list, and thought it would be a good one to do as a podcast!

Also, as an added bouus, Doug and I start the podcast by talking about the recent Batman trailer and footage that was released (I can’t believe how many people have been telling us to talk about it on the show!)

So without any more delay, here is your final (honest this time) podcast of the year as we count down and discuss the top 10 movie news stories of 2007.

HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

  1. Fun lists. I just watched Pirates 3. I missed out at the theater and then didn’t really jump onit due to all of the negative reviews including yours. As usual…CAMPEA, you are wrong! I fucking LOVED Pirates 3 and was so satisfied with what it did to complete the series. 2 was terrible, and 3 redeemed it and the series, and I thought it was deep, visually arresting, EXTREMELY well casted and acted, and a very meaty, fulfilling story experience. Yeah it was a bit confusing at times, and somewhat overwhelming in short bursts, but overall, I felt that it was GREAT.

  2. MAYBE JOHN HAD SAW A SHORT VERSION OF THE TRAILER WHITH JUST ONE SIGHT OF THE JOKER SAYING JUST ONE LINE!!!
AND HES NOT A BATFAN,PETER, SOOO… YOU CANT COMPLAIN WHITH HIM ABOUT HIS LACK OF EXCITEMENT ON THIS ONE.
IM PREETY MUCH GEEK UPED SINCE I SAW THE TEASER AND AFTER THE TRAILER THEN!!!WAW!!!
BASICLY FOR THE SAME REASONS YOU CITED ABOVE.
I SAW JOKER THERE AND NO SIGN OF HEATH LEDGER AT ALL!
    I NOLLAN WE TRUST.

  3. Hey, John. In your last podcast you completely insulted the bat-fans. You said “How can anyone judge a performance based on one picture and one line?” One line??? You made us out to look like idiots. Heath Ledger’s Joker spat more than one line:

    FROM THE TEASER:

“Starting tonight, people will die. I’m a man of my word.”

    FROM THE TRAILER:

    “You’ve changed things…forever. See, to them you’re just a freak…Like me!”

    (HaHaHaHaHa)

    “Evening, Commissioner.”

    “Why so serious?!”

“A little fight in ya, I like that.”

“It’s all part of the plan.”

    “Come on! Hit me!”

“Let’s put a smile on that face!”

    (HaHaHaHaHa)

From the IMAX Prologue (First five minutes of TDK):

“No, no, no. I kill the bus driver.”

“I believe, what ever doesn’t kill you simply makes you…stranger.”

Along with these lines were several shots of the Joker. He was moving, he had expressions on his face, and of course he was laughing.

This is what made the fans draw the conclusion that Ledger might indeed be the definitive Joker. Just looking at his eyes, the way he moves, and laughs; he’s channeling this character. Jack did Jack with make-up. This is the first time we are seeing someone embody The Joker. Forgive us for being excited about it. And it’s more than one line…as you can see. Ten, to be exact.

  4. YEAHHH SIX MONTHS ITS TOOO LONG RIGHT NOW NOVA!!!
    WILL BE A GREAT YEAR
and about john …well, thats why i come here aniway,i dont agreed whith he sometimes but hes a cool dude.
and i really like TMB,IT WAS JUST MY BATGEEK DEFENSE SYSTEM beeing activated.
    happy new year!

  5. In John’s defense, at the end of the day, this site and podcast are pretty much his gut feelings and opinions. And although the site is a lot bigger and widely known than when he started a few years back, one of things that’s always been great about it is that he never deferred to the whims of US. This isn’t a news site, and we need to come to grips with the reality that this is a tad more personal than other movie sites.

HOWEVER, I AM GEEKED ABOUT BATMAN. If I was running the Movie Blog I’d be talking TDK everyday, whether there was breaking news or not. lol.

    Happy New Year!

  6. i dont undestand why john is so skeptical about the TDK sometimes.
its like he felt forced to make the comments on this one.
i now you already added, the transformers fan geekgasm you had when the first trailer came out,so..its the same thing for us batman fans and you now our fan base its a lot bigger then the transformer one.
maybe this is why it had the huge reaction in the comunity.
ad to this the good image batman begins maded on the minds of the fans and even on the eyes of the people that was just MEH about another batman movie when it was launched, those who saw the movie later and made the movie long leg on theaters.
those people are the ones who got very worried when heath ledger name came for the role of joker for the reasons you john very well named yourself.
so when the first studio pics came out and we saw the mood and the style heath ledger and nolan puted on joker, the relieve was instantenious and why not turned into excitement.
for people like me,on that trailer, the joker was there on the canvas and not heath ledger and i now its just a trailer and we have to wait six months to now how will really turn off, but common, you greep whith us about our excitement on this one after all the WOWS and FUCKS you said when transformers first trailer came out !?
you sound like you dont understand what YOU felt yourself when the movie you waited so much to came out finnaly apeared on canvas.

  7. John, Can’t find the original post but I was catching up on a few Uncuts over the holiday season and was surprised to see you mentioned Next as a surprise film. I’d never EVER considered watching it and actually laughed at the trailer and general premise. But your 2 cents gave me some optimism and since its the holidays I’m spending time with the fam and as I’m an avid movie goer and someone with some taste in movies (good taste I hope) and my parents usually fall into the group of the general population that loved tripe like Wild Hogs I always find it had to find a movie to watch with them. Thankfully i was willing to take a chance on Next as it seemed like something that would appeal to my parents but not insult my intelligence (too much). And I just have to thank you b/c I did enjoy the movie as did my parents (took my dad a few min to ‘figure out’ how the movie worked with the 2 min into the future premise). I can’t thank you enough for your podcasts and the site in general…. I’m so happy that the other deals fell through and that you’re still running the best Dam movie site period!

  8. I’m really shocked that the whole Mooninites terrorism panic wasn’t on the list. It did blow over pretty quickly but it was pretty unique.

Also, the whole mess over the Justice League movie is all we’ve been talking about for the last few months so i thought that would make it.

For me, i’d say that the complete 180% turnaround in fanboy opinion on Heath Ledger’s Joker from the start of the year to the end would be my number 1. I don’t think i’ve ever seen anything quite like it.

I join with AjaxLou in thanking you guys for a fantastic (and rollercoaster) year of TMB entertainment. Have a great 2008 everyone.

  9. Happy New Years Everyone!!!!!!!

John, Doug, et al thanks for another great year of movie talk entertainment! Here’s to next year and the new things you will be slinging our way – Cheers!
