God’s Spy Movie Signs Josh Lucas

Gods-Spy-Josh-LucasThere is something just a little more compelling about movies based on real life stories and events, and this “God’s Spy” movie sounds like it has the potential to be an amazing one. Variety gives us the synopsis:

Pic is the story of a young Wall Street trader, played by Lucas, who is really a Jesuit priest working undercover to gain experience of the financial markets. He becomes caught up in a shady political and financial conspiracy involving the Vatican Bank, the CIA, the Mafia and Masonic Lodge.

That sounds great. I’ve got to be honest, I’ve never heard of this story before, but I quickly started looking stuff up online about the real events this morning after reading about this, and I can’t wait to see how well they pull this story off. Of note, Josh Lucas has signed on to play the lead.

Lucas is an interesting case study. Just 2 years ago it looked like he was poised to become the next Harrison Ford, but then when he got handed two major leads (Poseidon and Stealth) the films were met with both critical and audience negative reactions… that pretty much slammed the breaks on the “next Harrison Ford” talk. But you can hardly blame Lucas for those two films and I still believe he’s an under-appreciated talent in this business and could still make a legitimate A-List leading man. We’ll have to see. For now, I’m just really looking forward to seeing him in this one!

I have nothing against Josh Lucas, but Harrison Ford is much better. But, I completely agree with you, his talent will definitely shine through.

I LOOOOOVE conspiracy stories. I love them even more when they involve the Vatican. I think Lucas is a pretty good actor. This could be cool. Of course DeNiro’s “The Good Shepherd” sounded pretty good on paper too.
