3 Minute Cloverfield Clip

Cloverfield has had more hype with almost nothing to back it up than any other film I can think of. DON’T GET ME WRONG… I’m not saying Cloverfield won’t be great, I’m just saying that other than vague trailers with some shaking cameras… we haven’t actually SEEN anything at all. We know a monster attacks… and that’s awesome on it’s own… but we haven’t seen anything… so I remain cautious about the project.

However, I’ve had a few cool people email this morning about this new full 3 minute clip from Cloverfield. It still doesn’t really show us anything… but the FEEL of it seems really good. I still remain cautious about getting too excited about this thing… but this clip certainly does notch my excitement for the movie up a little. Check it out:

I think JJ Abrams is the next Spielberg/George Lucas. This movie looks wicked.

  2. Seth Grimes says:

Well I gotta admit, this clip really did get me excited for what I thought was going to be a stupid film.Previously there really hadnt be anything on this film to interest me.So naturaly I assumed that this would be another film that was mediokre at best. But after seeing that clip Ive reconsidered;definately going to see it Cloverfield now.

Seems to me with the shaky cameras and the very little info this will simply be The Blair Witch Project in New York City. With aliens/monsters.

Very Cool. I love the fact that we don’t have a good idea exactly what it is. Obviously some kind of monster. But I love movies where you discover things along with the characters, especially in this kind of genre. This reminds me of “Independence Day” in a way (which was one of the best movie experiences I ever had). It’s also one of the reasons I loved “Signs” so much. You never really know what is going on until the end.

Not seeing the monster is much more scary than seeing it in your face.

  5. Simple Simon says:

I like how it says “Some Thing” has found us, not “Something”.

  6. Sportaphile says:

The part where the smoke is rushing down the street and everyone runs into a store and watch the smoke engulf the entire block is very 9/11ish. I remember watching that very same footage on september 11th.

I know they didn’t mean anything malicious by shooting that way, but I felt kind of weird watching it.

  7. AB says:

i guess its the same trailer but a little bit of more like 30 sec of it.

  8. Phil Gee says:

Yeah it looks ok. Ha ha, i don’t know what else to say.

  9. Alfredo says:

I’m not sure that I like the fact that it seems so 9/11-ish. I agree with Sportaphile it was really… wried. (For the lack of a better word.)

  10. krazie835 says:

It just seems like the first trailer just with more footage (which isn’t a lot) and that the movie has a title now.

  11. Meli says:

I agree is it 9/11ish in some ways, but this footage also grips me much like the opening segment of the first Lost episode. Watching this footage I felt this grip of fear and desperation for the characters who are thrust into choas.
The only thing that does bother me is it looks like we’re going get camcorder shakey cam for this movie and while I don’t get motion sickness it does start to hurt my head after a while. I’m hoping it won’t be this style for the entire film.

  12. TigerClaw says:

    That clip was very cool.

  13. Flyer28 says:

    great overacting

  14. Rafa1215 says:

    Where’s Jason?! Where’s Jason?!

  15. UKAndy616 says:

“…it’s the stay puff marshmellow man…”

    sorry, i couldn’t resist. :)

  16. Chisox says:

Its a little to 9-11ish but I love it.

  17. Jordan says:

Awful… An utterly unconvincing attempt at realism. If they were going for the “home video” feel, they should’ve thrown in some unattractive people (yes, they exist, and they show up frequently in home videos), along with a healthy does of profanity (I’ll bet some people would even go so far as to use the f-word if a monster were to decapitate the Statue of Liberty). Also, the video quality should’ve been taken down a few notches (a bit of “shakiness” by itself doesn’t suffice).

  18. ilmovies says:

This reminds me on the “smoke monster” from LOST. I bet they won’t even bother to tell us what the hell is going on and just leave us wondering, because they have a “lets screw with their minds” fetish… but i kind of like it, hehe

  19. Nec says:

The monster from Lost = Coolest monster in the history of entertainment.

  20. Nec says:

By the way isn’t this promotional stunt with the widget absolutely genius? I mean if catches on it is going to spread like wildfire through myspace, they will be promoting the movie without spending a dime.

  21. Mattiac says:

This is just a copy of Godzilla!

  22. Demonkai says:

Im just anxious to see this damn movie..it puts that whole “What IF” thing in your head like the movie “Day after Tomoorow”…Not seeing the movie monster is eerie as hell and the People running and being scared franticly is very believeable…But i wouldnt mind seeing a Hazey glimpse of the monster a bit more..like im trying to visualize how this thing really looks that is so huge that it ripped the statue of liberty’s head off and throws it! thats crazy. I really dont care if the movie turns out a lil dry, i just want too see what the hell is going on. Its no Blair witch i see. Its over that in quality…cant wait till january!

  23. bunnyhero says:

i’m looking forward to this, if only because it’s a giant monster movie, but i agree with Jordan’s (#17) comment about how the attractive-people quotient is too high for a realistic home video, and that there should be more swearing… what i find really odd is how the camera operator doesn’t seem to be saying a single thing. or if they are, their voice isn’t near loud enough, especially in a situation like this!

as for the 9/11-ishness of it, i think it makes total sense. in fact, i hope that the giant monster turns out to be a 200-foot-tall george w bush.

  24. yikshan says:

Watched this movie. Such a huge disappointment. The camera moves like amateur throughout the show(which made many compliant of headache). Boring movie with no action or heroism in it and do not have to bring your brain to the cinema to watch it. It is a pretty short movie (less than 1 hour 30 mins). And definitely not worth your money.
    I would give a rating of 3/10.
