Mark Wahlberg May Be Max Payne
It looks like our good friend Marky Mark is in negotiations to do a movie based on the first person shooter Max Payne. We get the news from the legendary caves of Yahoo:
Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations to star in “Max Payne,” Fox’s adaptation of the hit video game. The story centers on a DEA agent named Max Payne who is framed for the murder of a fellow agent and finds himself in the middle of a mob war, which gives him a chance to avenge the Mafia slayings of his wife and child.
We will often flap our gums about how movies that are based on video games usually suck balls. This movie may be no exception, but a cop on the run revenge story is hard to mess up and hopefully this is a film that will buck the trend.
Marky Mark is also a beloved piece of man meat with solid acting chops and I am never upset to see him in anything. I am not sure if Marky Mark will be able to draw people to this movie, but I do think that people will give it a chance if he is the lead. The only thing that seems strange to me is that the video game was released in 2001 and the sequel in 2003, I am just wondering if the game still has enough nostalgic fans to pull them into the theatre?

Great, another shitty video game movie coming. Please stop making these, Hollywood!
I’d pay to see this, loved the games, but then again, we all know how most video game movies work out…..shit.
Are you kidding me! Go pick up a copy of Max Payne for your PC, it should be in the $5 bin by now and give it a whirl. Despite coming out after the matrix it was in developement prior to the movies release and pioneered the bullet time effect. It has the best noir comic book style cut scenes you will see and is deliciously dark. This should be a great movie, in fact there’s no reason any video game based movie should suck. Blame the Producers and writers and directors not the ‘game to movie’ concept.
First they want him for Duke in the G.I. Joe movie, now Max Payne? Sheesh! Decisions like this is why Hollywood stinks. Not only is Max Payne about as popular as Barney right now but Hollywood has not got the idea of how to make good videogame movies.
Wait, I just had a thought, will Marky Mark be able to pull off the trademark Payne voice?
Yeah. Wahlberg has the look of Max Payne, but he really doesn’t have the voice. Maybe he should start smoking 37 packs of cigarettes a day. If he does this then maybe his voice will be good and ready.
hey i dont expect much of the movie but wahlberg fits……after seeing him go hardcore in four brother and even more so in shooter (didnt expect much either, but was pleasantly surprised) i think he can pull it off…..plus max payne will be hard to screw up…..a dark noir new york city atomsphere, cool slow motion gun fights, cheesy but corny detective monologues, hollywood can do that…..now we just need a director
Wait a minute, the writers go on strike they come out with crap, they go to work they still come out with crap. Who do I cheer for?
great fucking game.
Another video game movie…….oh fucking JOY……….
ditto alfie
great fucking game
I always thought Max Payne looked like he was straining on a big dump. Lets hope Wahlberg can pull that look off convincingly.
They already made this movie it was called “Death Sentence”. Before that it was “The Punisher” with Thomas Jane and Dolph Lundgren and before that “Death Wish” 1-5. Hollywood makes this movie about three times a year. The only difference about this revenge flick is that it will have a brand attached to it.
Frankly I’m willing to give it chance. Mainly because I played that damn game for hours on end back in the day.
awesome game, Wahlberg is a pretty good fit for Max Payne…..
the game being so long ago could be a good thing. people will have forgotten about it or just never played it or have never heard about it so they wont be comparing. they will walk into the theater with a more open mind.
I’m a huge Max Payne fan (of the second game especially). I’ve always said that this is one of those video game adaptations that could work, but at the same time, seems a little pointless, because the game already plays so much like a movie.
I wonder if the film will have as much monologging as the game. It gets rather annoying after a while.
That could be true sammy
Marky Mark seems to be a good choice to play Max Paine, then again he seems to be a good fit for just about any other film these days.Hes definately marketable for any gun toting hard-core character.
Just leave this one to Hollywood, theyll mess it up somehow.Just like they do with EVERY OTHER VIDEO GAME MOVIE.
Then again,I think the movie Hitman MIGHT do well, despite its video game aspect.
